Watching movies on the tiny little screens behind my eyelids... blinking occasionally to change the channel! :D

My wife joined me in this celebrated New Years Eve activity. We lay side by side, careful not to disturb the other's view! :D

Reading, waiting for Eddie to get home from locking up the church. We had it open from 6 to midnight for prayer, but I went earlier. So I didn't get to see Eddie for the first eight minutes of the New Year. I think I'll survive though. LOL!

I fell asleep on the couch with my boots and coat on while I was supposed to be watching the puppy who I just KNEW had to go outside and do his duty.

I missed both...the New Year, and the duty. :doh

I was watching TV and fell asleep, but woke up at 11:55. I turned off the TV, got ready for bed, checked out the window to see some fireworks, told Maggie "Happy New Year" and crawled into bed.

I was asleep by 12:02 a.m.

Exciting life, but I was warm and safe.

LOL...

Me too. I listed to the wife saw a chord of logs before I went to sleep. She is adamant that she does NOT snore. One of these days....haha :D Can I record with my lap top?

The only thing is, we turned the heat off last night and it got cold in the house. I had to wander through the cold house in my eh....to turn the heat on. But this morning, I turned the heat off, built a fire in the fireplace. After prayer, I sat in the dark house to watch it turn from dark to gradual day alone with my thoughts.

I was finishing a book by Dee Henderson, The Negoiator. It was a very good book.

The Skinner was sound asleep on the couch while my niece was watching the ball drop in New York City.

I really hope 2008 is better than 2007.

Sitting on the patio in our favorite chairs, enjoying our youngest son, Jordan and his friend that are home from college, watching the neighborhood fireworks and listening to the sounds of the new year coming in. O, yeah we had our new fire pit burning to keep us warm.

Our prayer for the new year: "O God, that we may become all that you have purposed for us to be and to do".

Nay.. I simply exhorted my consistent sister to make a statement of clarification lest they who be of the faulty opinion that my consistent brother is an UC be dissuaded from their erroneous view!

I certainly did not make any accusation as I knew, as you pointed out, that they were NOT in their own home. The false reputation is beloved by many here and I just wanted to protect them from disappointment so early in this new year! :D

I spent the new year with my pastor and pastor's wife! The old myth is "whatever you are doing on New Year's, you will do the rest of your life." I am not one who puts any stock into myths, but I have no problem spending time with precious people like my pastor's wife! They are wonderful!

At midnight (our time) I was standing outside a small home in a very poor village with about 100 people talking and waiting to eat a bite with them before returning to my house to be with my kids and those that celebrated there...I really was thinking about some of you folks and wishing those that love missions were standing with me watching the people...
This is a third world country so all goes...the people 3 houses up put loud speakers in the dirt street (if it could be called a street) and turned them up full blast...some love songs, country songs and whatever...screamed into the night...as soon as it was midnight we slipped in the little home so crowded you could hardly move and prayed and had something to eat...I did not stay for icecream as the folks at my house were calling me to come home as bandits were loose in our area and they worry about me...Our village was without lights so we sat by candlelight until around 2 AM talked about the Lord. It was really too hot to sleep and I wanted to put my hammock on the porch and sleep but me kids were afraid robbers would carry me off into the blackness of the night...lol...they sure would have a hard time...most of these guys are tiny...
Anyway I had my loaded gun under my vest but no one knew that except my oldest son...
Today some of the young people have been over here I think they want me to take them to the beach to play after while...we will see...

Happy New year...yes tonight we have church...

Went to brother's house to eat, play games, celebrate! SIL's brother and his wife were visiting. Nice folks. Also SIL's step brother's family and their friends were with us. My parents were with us, too. So we had a nice little group.

Played ROOK! My partner and I whipped the socks off the opposing team. We had some good nail-biter rounds there!

Brother set up the projector and the kids played Mario sumthin-er-other on the wall - SUPER SIZE!!!

At midnight, we had fizzy Welch's grapejuice to celebrate, threw confetti and burned colorful sparklers! I still have confetti in my hair from last night. Had confetti in my ear, up my nose and down my shirt! Ha!

I was plumb tuckered and left the party around 12:20AM. Got home and crawled under my nice warm covers and went Nite Nite...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Live long and prosper and God bless us everyone!!!

My kids wanted to see the "ball drop" in times square so we put on Dick Clark about 5 minuets til.

Man was he painful to watch! I used to watch Dick Clark way back in the day, and since he had his stroke--he is NOT the same.

(note to Dick Clark - no one will be mad at you if you retire from your News Years eve duties)

We watched the ball drop and see 2008 in lights flashing- Then we had a toast of Martinellis Sparkling Apple Juice.

Keith and I stepped outside for a moment to watch our neighbors set off their fireworks and noisemakers.

Then it was off to bed!

We went to my brother's house to celebrate the New Year.

Each of my siblings and I take a turn hosting the party for a different holiday over the course of the year. (Ours is Thanksgiving. Rin's is Easter, Sally's is Christmas, Chickie's is the Corn Festival (a holiday only here in Swanton) and Thunder's is New Years)

We ate snacky foods, played "Apples to Oranges" and "Left, Right, Center", watched football, had poppers and confetti, drank fake champagne at the midnight moment and gave out kisses (to our spouses) and hugs (to everyone else).

By 12:15, we were home and in bed. Justin is still sleeping because he stayed up much later playing Xbox360 online. Keith spent the night at his friend's house because he had a party there (Keith got to go to the party at 10 pm. First he had to go to the cousin's party).

I was called a dirty name playing Rook by my husband. I play for fun, eat, talk and enjoy the company - - well, he played for blood!!!

Well, we don't have "family rules" but we have legends! Ha! Mom is the ROOK MASTER, Wayne and Eliz Goodine are also masterful Rook players. If you ever play with them, don't let them play as partners. I have yet to prove it, but I suspect they cheat (the buggers!). Not only are they both BRILLIANT, but I'm convinced they use hand signals or verbal clues...can't prove it, but I've got a feeling! LOL

My Paw Paw "Tack" Hammer was a FIERCE Rook player and very competitive.
One night, a few friends were over to drink coffee and have some interesting conversation about all the latest over a good old game of ROOK.

At age 9, I was curious what the game was all about since everyone seemed to be in serious contemplation of their next move. So I carefully walked around the table peering over the adult shoulders to see if I could glean some idea about their strategy.

So I took a gander at my PawPaw's hand of cards and blurted out, "PawPaw, what does that little black bird do?"

I heard a GROAN all around the table...

Oh dear! PawPaw turned red as a radish, threw his cards on the table and stomped back to his room! Whew! I'm lucky to be alive to tell the tale! Ha!

So now I'm infamous for ruining PawPaw's game!

Then we both got our youngest who is 13 in a bearhug and tickeled him for a few minutes.

Yeah Phil, That's exactly what I'm about to dive into. Wifey is from LA. Can't go into new year without blackeyed peas, cabbage and cornbread.

:newyear to you and all on AFF

I am used to the Mexican version of a New Years feast- Menudo with a side of Cilantro, white onion, chili flakes and lemons

Not to mention fresh tortillas!- that is the way they celebrated when I attended an AA church.

But now I do not make Menudo though no one in my family like tripe!

I miss it it though-

I was sleeping in between my 2 littlest babies. The dog might have been in bed with me too.

We had gone to the pastor's house for good food, fellowship and games, but the 3 year old was just plumb DONE by 8:45. I don't blame him too much..we went to bed at 7 am yesterday, got up around noon, then left again around 5 pm. It was good to be home with my babies though.

I do wish there had been church, but again, I don't think the 3 year old would have made it.

At 2 am, I was up fussing at my older two. I guess *they* rang in the new year and then WOKE ME UP at 2 am.

I was at home asleep on the couch....well my wife and kids woke me up for the count down. I had taken a muscle relaxer to relieve a neck and back ache sustained in a car accident early Saturday morning. We where traveling to Florida on I10 and were struck from behind by an older gentleman who was not paying enough attention. It was raining cats and dogs, so my wife, who had just taken over the pilots seat, was driving @ 55mph. Everyone is ok, except for neck, back, and head aches. It ruined our trip to Bushe Gardens and Sea World, so we just headed back home.

The Lord did have His hand on us!!!!!!!

I've been thinking about the question posed in this thread.

I hope some honest soul who feels like that they have to "tell all" does not respond here. That could be embarrassing.

You know how some folks are. They will say anything and then add, "Well, I'm just being HONEST." I know someone like that. There are times that silence is best and being "honest" is not. :D :D :D

Praise the Lord!

My advice is to go ahead and have that neck/back checked out...yes....I have heard of people walking around with broken necks and not knowing it except how it kept hurting....also whiplash can have lasting effects, mine happened over 30 years ago and I still have pain in my neck, and back....

My wife and I were laying in bed trying to go to sleep. However, some revelers decided it would be a nice time to fire off what sounded like an
automatic weapon to my chagrin. This jarred me out of whatever semi stupor that I was drifting into, and kept me awake for some time. I didn't feel like
the shots were close enough to endanger me, but they were annoying.

When you live out in the country, or in a small town located out in the middle of nowhere, you expect to hear shotguns being shot off at midnight on New Year's. My dad did it every year of my life.

At 5 minutes till 12, my wife and I knelt down beside the couch, and prayed.
Shortly after 12, we kissed, and began to think about the goodness of God in our lives.
We began to think and talk with each other about all the couples we knew who were no longer together, and praised God for His keeping power.

As the scripture says, He is able to keep those things we commit unto him.

What an absolutely awesome God!

We called my parents about 11:00 pm, to make sure they were still up, then we "sneaked" over to their house, (about 25 miles away) and surprised them at midnight.
How fun....

After the new years rang in we all started making "Resolutions"...my kids decided to make some for their mom and dad, then my 6 year son got seriouse and said I know..I am going to DO MORE CHORES!!.......We ended up stayin up until 1:30 watching all the falalala on TV. It was nice. I am looking forward to a great new year!:newyear

Well at midnight Eastern time, I was with about 250-300 people in our family center, which followed a great service that ended about 10:45. We were listening to some live Christian Country music and having free frap and cap from a local coffee shop and drawing tickets to give out gift cards to various places...

At midnight central time (my time) we were all in the middle of a wonderful praise break praising the old out and the new in... No greater thing that talking to Jesus on both sides as the clock rolls over...

At midnight mountain time I was in line at Whataburger, which was very long, getting breakfast taquitos for my daughters and several of their friends who came over and player guitar hero the rest of the dark hours...

At midnight pacific time I was wishing I wouldn't have eaten that breakfast taquito and drank so much coffee at the free coffee bar ... lol

The word "working" along with her being a girl and in Jail could also have some risque connotations as well. In Jail for being a working girl! not good! :D
