Yes.

Kentucky, I believe.

Yes.

He actually preached at the AMC meeting a couple of years ago.

He's still a good singer too for those of us that like that style.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think this brother is from Georgia, but I can't tell you if he is Con,LIB,Mod or whatever.
I think there are some Lawhorns in Georgia that have a ministerial fellowship.

He is in Beckley, WV pastoring the church his father pastored. That is unless he has moved in that last few years. Still conservative.

I recall his singing some song about "Momma" ....Something about a son who was astray for years but Momma kept praying and "now everything's all right and she could sleep tonight"...

Yes, I remember it. When I was younger my parents weren't huge music listeners... they only had a handful of records... and Lanny Wolfe Trio and Wayne Lawhorn were among them.
Seeing Lanny's name reminded me of those old records.. the Hemphills were one of the few as well...

Wayne married a girl from our church, and I just wondered where they were. It's been ages since I've seen them.

He had some very memorable songs...

"Dope and cigarettes, beer and magazines, cause a great commotion. Skatin' rinks, picture shows, pool halls dominos, men, with mixed emotions. The church has a dance hall, the preacher has a bowling ball and they think it's good clean livin'. Sunday Schools are having races, teachers have their painted faces, oh what a time we're livin;... but you gotta keep your love on things above, not on the things of the devil. You gotta keep your eyes lookin' at the skies and you will live with the Lord forever"

There was also the

"Come out of her my people, thus saith the Lord. You can find it written in your Bible revelation 18:4. You gotta be filled with the Spirit and I'll guarantee you will see... God the rock now sendin' revival to the free.
I know some Apostolics, who claim to live right. But if you preach Jerimiah 10, they get mad and wanna fight. They're so sanctified, they won't watch a tv. But their just like thier mother they still love a Christmas tree"

I think he wrote those himself lol..

He also sang one about America, has forgotten God... and the Hello Momma one... I just called to tell you, all those tears you shed for me, they were not in vain.

We had a couple tapes and a couple records of his, if I remember correctly.

Oh I know... I've got so many of his songs burned into my brain because for a few years it was all we had in the house to listen to!

He sang a song called "Drinkin' of the Wine" it said "you can't go to heaven in a rockin' chair, the Lord don't allow no lazybones there..."

I don't think songwriting was among his greatest abilities.. but I enjoyed his piano playing when he was at our church to preach.

My kids use to love that song drinking of the wine.

You can't get to heaven with that short dress on, there's no place to stop and sew a piece on.

Tell all your neighbor and your kin, you Can't get to heaven with that snuff in your chin.

Well, I never actually heard him play guitar but on one of his album covers he was holding one.

I remember his twang.

Bro Lawhorn pastors in Bedford, Virginia and is one of the best preachers i have ever heard. He is independent and very conservative. I visited his church several years ago enjoyed it immensely! A mighty move of God! He does sing and play Piano and Guitar.

Sorry, I don't want to ruin this Thread, but this kind of stuff really bothers me. I used to amen this type of preaching or singing until I realized what this has done to people.

This is the Old School rhetoric that has tainted the World of Religion with "We are better than you", causing rivalry and strife amongst people who are supposed to have mercy, unity and compassion.

These statements also lead to the slippery slope of being blinded by our own faults because we don't have snuff in our chin, or have a dress on. We might weigh 400 lbs because we overeat, or kill our bodies by guzzling a 6 pack of soda every day, but we don't use snuff, by golly.

I just had a man leave our Church who had sleeves to his wrists, a leather watch band, didn’t like Christmas, wore only white shirts to church, and he used to run with the crowd of UC's. But as soon as his mouth opened, he complained and gossiped about every pastor he has ever sat under, pointing out every fault he could imagine about them and other saints. He was so blind by his idea, he failed to see his own sin, and he wondered why he had no friends.

When will we learn that Jesus rebuked the Holy or those who dressed the part, not the sinners and the honest about their true condition. I think we need songs that point this out, unveiling the sin that’s in these supposable SUPER HOLY Churches.

People that claim they are “Living Right” are liars. None of us are living right.

God help us!

Gee thanks. Now I am thinking of Conway Twitty, "Hello Darlin....."
