Was this new fellowship intended for the Caucasian race only? I didn't see one person of color while viewing the photos of the event.

I bet the lady in that pic had cut hair, too. She tried to hide it, but it kept falling out.

Stop! You know better than that. http://www.apostolicfriendsforum.com/images/icons/icon11.gif

They announced the attendance at 1500. When the meeting was first being reported it was said that there was a room that holds over 2500 that had been rented and that they expected standing room only. Another figure that was thrown out there was "2000 to 2500."

They missed their projections by at least 25%; that's gotta be a little disappointing.

Not really. If every preacher in Tulsa was UPC (and they weren't), and if every one of those preachers signed up for the WwPF (and they didn't), then there would be about a 10% loss (or less) in UPC members.

Given the fact that the catalyst of the meeting (Resolution #4) had a vote of something like 55 - 45% I'd say that the WwPF didn't even persuade their target audience.

I saw the same guy twice. They say that one of the speakers (Johnny Godair?) preached against "facial hair" when he was reading his laundry list.

Also, it was reported that the professional photographer who was hired to take these pics had a mustache.

It's sad that we have to even mention stuff like that. How on earth did we get stuck on an idea that men must shave their faces smooth like a woman's?

**Just saw a second guy that I had missed earlier. So there's "the same guy twice" with a goatee and another gentleman in the food line with a growing beard. I wonder if either of them signed up.

I wonder what Ogatt would have to say about that?

according to Reckert half the number @ the Tulsa Tango were spouses and family mbrs of the minister. The real question is how many were upci. Not as many as the west coast mafia would have hoped.

Thats still quite a number.

He'd probably go carrying on about the compromise evident in each of those pictures that didn't have a buffet table in it. :toofunny

Be careful. I was cautioned that pointing out spiritual paralells of spiritual segregation was too much.

I went back through the pics again, looking for some of the things that others mentioned seeing or not seeing. I did see one face that rather clearly had African-American features- just in the FWIW department.

I saw several faces that I recognized and one that surprised me simply because I had always considered him a "kid" and didn't think he was "old enough" to be hanging with this crowd. I think that's just the years sneaking up on me.

Most of the Executive Committee members have "outreaches" or daughter works in the various ethnic and immigrant communities around their churches. For this reason I wouldn't characterize the WwPF as being overtly "segregated" in any way. I have no way of knowing how they handle their relationships with the pastors and ministers in those works.

There is the general characterization that "conservative" Apostolics are more likely to be "segregationist" in their outlook. This is a common theme, but I think it is unfair as well. From my experience (and I'm afraid anecdotal impressions are all that I can offer here) I have found that those of a "segregationist" outlook do tend to also be "conservative" within the Apostolic ranks. But a simple Venn Diagram would demonstrate the error in saying "'conservative' Apostolics are segregationists."
