View Full Version : No Limits Conference Speakers?

3 Major night speakers, who are UPC, have canceled out of this Conference. No Limits is held annually in Sacramento at the Rock Church www.nolimitsonline.org
The leadership of the Rock Church has played a major role in the formation of the WPF. Its Pastor is on the WPF General Council and its Bishop is on the Executive Council.
The General Board's recent decision prohibits holding dual licenses, but does not prohibit fellowship with the WPF.
Should these UPC preachers not have canceled? By canceling, these speakers may be intending to send a message that they are staying UPC.
Given the GB's recent decision and the nature of WD politics, could the No Limits organizers and sponsors not foresee this happening?
It appears that the No Limits Conference will become mainly preached and attended by WPF'rs

<<The General Board's recent decision prohibits holding dual licenses, but does not prohibit fellowship with the WPF.>>
I heard they past a decision prohibiting any fellowship with WPF, and that anyone that did would lose their license. Also that non- UPC preachers were prohibited to preach in UPC churches. I wasn't there, but that is what was told to me.

Or...it may be like a certain church in North Little Rock who puts on nothing but slam dunking holiness standard preaching by anybody who will conform to those standards. IMO

According to David Bernard "This ruling does not mean that members of the WPF are “under question,” and therefore it does not prohibit fellowship between members of the two groups."

This is not correct. You need to read the thread with David Barnard's letter to the ministers in his district. He goes into detail about what exactly the General Board voted on and he specifically said that they did not prohibit WWPF and UPC preachers from preaching for each other as long as no existing rules were violated (I am sure he is referring to the one where you can't have an exUPC preacher preach for you or you for him if he left under some circumstance considered wrong).

Lookie who has live services now! I thought NW was a conservative, not!

Anyone see the irony of the name of their conference? Should I dare propose truth in advertising? How can one name a conference No Limits when the premise of the conference is to associate with others who promote subjective limits for salvation?
Another contradiction.

I watched a sermon last night that NW did on 2/19 and all I kept wondering where was the anointing? It was painful to watch. The sermon consisted of him pounding fear into the teenagers by accusing them of being worldly and how they could end up dead without God like his sister. He just kept going on and on....
NW seemed desperate for a move of the Holy Ghost, which never materialized. The one word that kept playing in my mind was CONTROL!

This is sad! I will not subject myself or my children to this type of preaching...it is not of God. The scriptures tell us that "we will have life and life more abundantly"...

Amen! The preaching of the Cross to us that believe is the power of God.
It might be OK to talk about events as a warning but not as the motivation of an entire sermon.
Preach Christ and him crucified.
Then the Lord will do the rest with the conviction of the heart...

I believe Rock and Roll church has had a webcast for several years now. This is nothing new. I remember going to ABN Global or whatever that site is and watching NW's introductory video he did with the other pastor there. It was very professionally done.
It just seemed strange seeing an ultra con doing TV..er.....a webcast.

Oh, I didn't realize that was what was being discussed. I thought it was that they had a webcast and I knew I had watched something of theirs a couple of years ago or so. Sorry about that!!
I loved the comment someone made awhile back on a Tulsa thread that NW is the T.F. Tenney of the UPC!!!! LOL!!!!

I was supposed to go hear Brennan Manning on Wed night. But that fell through. Maybe I'll go to this conference since it's not far from my house. It's been awhile since i've been beat up by a preacher. Maybe it'll be fun. I'll enjoy washing my hands in the elaborate copper wash basins in the men's room that I admired the last time I was there. Their bathrooms remind me of something from the Luxor in Vegas. The whole church architecture and decor is over the top, imo, which is interesting considering how uber con they are. The pastoral offices are the most elaborate I've ever seen.

Yes, many of them still do but unless you have visited all UPC churches please don't make rash statements. As far as NW and his new venture I never believed for a minute it had anything to do with TV that is merely an excuse. As I used to tell my students in my high school classes, an excuse is a lie with a thin skin stretched over it. I can't find any real pornography on the TV unless I subscribe to it but I can find it on my computer without even looking for it. One wrong word on Goggle and you are right in the middle of it.This whole thing is so phoney.

Well, looks like I'm not going to their conference tonight. Mrs. Apomo says we can't afford the gas money. So we're going out to eat together instead. I think that was her circumlocutionary way of saying it was a waste of time. (Especially so since it's only about 15 minute drive from here and I'm sure we'll drive at least that far to go to Chipotle.)
Maybe I'll go on Friday night. That'll give 'em a couple of nights to get warmed up before they preach the good stuff on the last night.
I guess i"ll just watch it on TV...er, I mean the internet instead.

My sentiments also..also, where is it, I don't want to go there. I though our church did a lot of jumping, dancing and running but nothing compared to that. thank goodness!!
I just went to check out the live online webcast of the No Limits conference. It doesn't start for another hour but they have a nice little advert airing for it. I was surprised because the music behind the clip is about "no limits" with a female soloist but it features almost a heavy metal long guitar riff!!!!! Not what you expect from a no short sleeves, no sports, everything is a sin, kind of place. I truly see why some were saying that NW is the TFT of the WWPF.

I got it to work too. Had to download that Silver thing. Saw Larry Booker preaching for about 30 minutes or so before I got kicked off by the network. I've heard he was a great preacher...it was aight. Saw Paul Price on the platform. Sitting right behind him was a guy I grew up with back home. Haven't seen him for about 10 years. He pastors a church not far from here. Wish I had gone after all, it would have been nice to see him and his wife.
Booker says that it's the one God, Jesus name, holiness people that are holding back God's judgement on California and the rest of the US and Eurppe. I did not know that. Fascinating.

I also recognized the young man sitting behind Paul Price.
I found it very interesting the way that NW indicated that CDs were available for sale (no mention of DVDs) and that if you knew someone not able to attend, please let them know that services would be available on the "worldwide web" each day and evening - and you could be blessed over and over again by these services when you went home because they would be archived on the website. What in the world is the difference in "watching" (he NEVER used that word) a DVD of the service or "watching" it on the worldwide web?

You can go tomorrow. TG will probably be there again. Paul Price was looking well. LB seemed to have my affliction for he kept losing his train of thought at various times. I am a little older and have an excuse but he's relatively young. Wish they would pan the audience slowly because I've got some family there. I believe God's own sovereign plans are dictating any coming judgment and we all may take ourselves a little too seriously sometimes.

I missed some of the first part because I had tried earlier and it wasn't working. Yes, Mary is still much the same girl she was when I first knew her. Oh, the tales that could be told but my lips are sealed! Larry Booker is 54 or 55 years old and sorry to say I'm getting to the place where that's sounding young. Oh, I feel so EXPOSED!!! :) I'll demur on the 'fine mind' thing (even though that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside) but you got the rest of it dead on. I think it was the variety of worldviews that ruined me in some respects. My mind is too open at times. I say 'ruined" tic. My wife is crafty, that's for sure. She's having a baby in three weeks btw. I'm wondering who you are and who it is that worked w/me that 'outed' me. It was prob that ol' redneck RB. He and I used to go around and around about stuff but we loved each other like brothers. I still love the guy. Why is it that I love my conservative friends so much?
I hope you don't think I'm being snarky and mean when I bring this stuff up. I went through my "I HATE "EM ALL!!" phase quite awhile back. But I'm just at a loss to figure out how powerful men can be allowed to wreak havoc on people with seemingly no accountability. I can't reconcile that in my heart. You have no idea how much I wanted to be a true blue UPC'er. I really did. But my mind wouldn't let me and sometimes it still breaks my heart because there is so much good there.
I really am curious as to who you are. I kind outed myself on purpose. You can PM me w/your name and I promise to keep it secret. But if you'd rather not, that's cool. Seriously, I appreciate your kind words. They mean something to me because I felt pretty unappreciated and like a freak when I was there. I've not fully appreciated the spiritual and emotional toll working there had on me until recently as I'm still working through junk from that era of my life and putting them to rest through prayer and prayerful counseling.
Love ya.

I gotcha, but I'll honor your anonymity and keep it to myself. I will say this: You have a fine mind, a sibling connected to some well known names, a "crafty" spouse, and a childhood of varied worldviews, literally. But in case I'm mistaken ... don't forget the red wig!

Got kicked off as well......... wonder what the problem was. Gonna have to listen to the archived service to hear the rest of the story... :tissue I didn't think the picture quality was that great.
Yeah, reading all of this, my mind keeps getting stuck on one thing; these people are being watched on a screen, and they just left an organization over being able to be watched on a screen...... :depressed :sad

Love ya.

I still love my conservative friends very much and laugh and talk with them whenever we meet. I've got some real "winners" too in that camp. Namely VM and NW for starters but I would come to their rescue in a heartbeat! [ I have a feeling that day may come. ]
No, A PoMo, it wasn't RB the retired rodeo star so rest at ease. This person probably wrote your big paycheck that you received at CLC. That should be enough information for your agile mind to figure out the rest. I'm really no one important although I do know many important ones. I do know where you are coming from for I find myself in a similar place. Often God has to get us off to ourselves for Himself so that He can accomplish His purpose in our lives. I am confident of this one thing, God is in control and everything's going to be alright. God's not worried so I'm not worried. Now, if I looked over there and saw God biting His fingernails ...... HELP!!!

Seriously though, if it's who I think it is then he's been mistreated as well. Was he the one always complaining about how loud GW cranked the PA? He's a good guy albeit misunderstood even still today. He and I had some good lunches together and he always was kind to me, and always approved my vouchers in a timely manner.
I forgot about the rodeo bit. That dude was a trip. The ladies in the office (Rhoda, et al) thought we hated each other because we argued so much about stuff. But we always hugged and made up and said it was iron sharpening iron. Even though we clearly disagreed on issues I think we understood each others heart and therein was the basis of our mutual respect. He'd always call me "Liberal" and I'd always call him "Redneck" and we'd both laugh. I'm glad he's doing so well up there in the frozen tundra.
Someday I'll tell you about the time I ran into VM at one of the casinos in Tahoe. Ha! Now that's funny, I don't care who y'ar. I guess I better clarify that it was at the buffet. The good one. He was very cordial and kind as well even though I was nervous as a chicken at KFC.
You're right, God is in control. I've been learning about Calvinism in school lately. I like some of their attitude in regards to Gods' sovereignty. Sometimes us libertarian free-will Arminians too easily forget that God is still God and we're not. :)

TV was a "red herring". It never was about TV. It was about who would be in control and who would set the "agenda" for the future. The desire to leave the UPCI and form another fellowship goes back many, many, years for some of these people. It doesn't matter to me what they do, but it would be nice to hear some unadorned [good con word] statements that actually revealed their true motives and goals. No spin!

Yes, I agree, TV is a hotbutton and even is with NW.[as inconsistant as it may seem] But TV just happened to be the convenient vehicle of the moment because the "unrest" and desire for "change" was always bubbling close to the surface for quite some time. I don't think it would have happened so rapidly or dramatically for perhaps a few more years but for NW's forceful personality. Don't fool yourself, and the Godair's and Odom's to the contrary, NW is the driving force!

When I would turn it loud enough to hear him speaking softly he would immediately, and without warning, scream like a banshee.

Something I've noticed too at this conference. So far I've not heard anything that I haven't heard 1000 times before. OT stories about some miraculous move of God, people becoming super-prayer warriors, brush arbor stories, and copious references to anointing oil and how "GAWD'S lookin' for SUMBODEH to be a JOASH and reach the WAAARRLLLDD!!! They're WAITIN' for what we GOT!!" Is this the only stuff preached at these sorts of conferences? if so, then why do people continue to go? I'd rather go to Catalyst conference or something and hear something interesting and informative.
I miss Lee Stoneking. I remember once he preached at Landmark and took his text from the National Enquirer about some space aliens and said that we ought all to be more "spacey!". Seriously. It was incredibly illuminating and I've never forgotten it. Parrful stuff!

All last night I was thankful that I had sprung the extra 15 bucks for the multimedia keyboard when I ordered my new Dell a couple of months ago. My keyboard has a nice round volume control sticking up that you can grab and twist quickly. With the other computer I would have been grabbing the mouse every few seconds and been furiously trying to get the volume slider down.

Ok Sweet Pea and Raven. I'm reeealllly intrigued that you know my old buddy TG. I gather from earlier posts that Raven is prob back East somewhere so I'm wondering if you're from my old stomping grounds back there. TG and I grew up at CT under NAU and JL. I remember some good prayer meetings with him in our youth group under Terry Smith. He's a good guy although has always been a little (lot) more conservative than me. I remember when we were in grade school and he already wanted to be a preacher/missionary. I may not agree with his theology but I love his heart. That's why I can't get too mad at these guys, I know too many of them and I know their hearts are the same as mine. We just see God a little differently and it colors our view of Scripture.
Raven, you're right, God is sovereign and we ought not take ourselves too seriously. Amen to that.

Yeah, I have a tough time avoiding weird situations too. RLM came to a church I attended about five years ago. It was good for the first three weeks. But then the next two months were absolutely horrendous. He almost split the church, drove a wedge between the pastor and the asst. pastor and contributed to the asst. getting fired, and to this day the church is still suffering from the negative affects of his "ministry". My best advice for anybody who sees him coming, grab your wallet and run for the hills.

Was during this revival that the camera's were encouraged to pan in on those that weren't worshipping as much as they should?
Uh oh.
That reminds me of the last time I was there. I was sitting next to TGraves when the co-pastor, at the time, reprimanded everybody for not being "worshippy enough" during the offering. That mad me so mad because, unlike him, I've actually worked a regular job in the "world" and know how hard it can be to make a buck. If I'm show up and I walk down there to give my money earned through the sweat of my brow then I'm being plenty "worshippy enough" and don't need to do a jig for the dude in a suit on the platform who lives off my offering. I turned to TG and said, "Dude, I hope you'll still be my friend but I'm leaving and I'm never coming back." His jaw hit the floor and my wife and I got up and walked out and we've never been back in ten years. I'm sorry to hear that sort of stuff still goes on. It's shameful. Thankfully the Lord has led me to more appreciative churches since then.
Sorry Sweet Pea. I hope you still love me.

Hey B. How do we know each other? My wife says she thinks you like to play the drums. True?
I believe the last time I saw you and your wife,we went out to eat at TGIF's in Indy.I roomed with Gary R and we lived on the White River and spent alot of time at your grandparents place.

I remember going out to eat there w/BH and somebody else but for the life of me I can't remember who that was. The harder I try to remember the less my brain cooperates. Do you and I share the same first name?
White River, Doc & Rosy...good times. Gary lives there now w/his family. You prob know that.

I agree with you wholeheartedly!
Two of TG's kids are married to people I love dearly...their daddy is just the same, in fact worse than TG.
