I disagree with the wording of Obama's comments, but I do agree that a young pre-teen or teenage pregnancy is not going to be viewed as a blessing by that child that is having a child.

We had an article on young teenage mothers in our newspaper last weekend that was haunting. Of course, I don't believe that abortion or handing out contraceptives in schools are the answer to these problems either. They've been doing it for the last 20 years and teens are still contracting STD's and becoming pregnant.

I don't believe that having a child is a "punishment" but I do believe that a young teenage girl having a child is definitely not a blessing.

We're loosing the point of what was said to quibble about words. The point is that Obama feels it's best to allow young women access to contraceptives and family planning measures. As with all things there are pros and cons with this. As Christians we must realize that this is the world we live in and that we have to raise our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord...the government's not going to do it and neither is it the government's job.

I agree that we shouldn't compound the sin by murdering. Most Americans seem to believe that this choice is most likely best left up to individual women. So we have to teach and educate because things aren't going to change.

What Obama is saying is that he wouldn't want his daughters to suffer the consequences of their actions, and I totally disagree with that sentiment. I believe in natural consequences, and in the case of unplanned pregnancy, it certainly will teach a long-lasting lesson.

HOWEVER, there is something to be gained from natural consequences of behavior, and when we remove consequences for bad behavior, then we potentially increase the bad behavior. (Obviously) And when I say "bad" behavior, that is precisely what I mean.

I don't think those who have a baby out of wedlock should have huge, celebratory baby showers, either. But I suppose that will make me unpopular. :) I certainly don't mind giving them necessities, but I don't think it should be as festive and fun as those who go about it properly.

Maybe that is our nations problems....we keep removing the consequences of our actions. We find cures for STDs so the fornicators and homosexuals can enjoy their life styles. We have no more consequences for adultery so that is running rampant too. We have high school teachers...females, having sex with under age students and getting away with hardly a slap on the hand now.

If you watch any amount of TV all these things are considered normal now...it's no wonder American society is so lax.

I would not want my daughter punished with a baby either. But that is what you get for doing the crime. I am for the death penalty though I hate for anyone to die. I believe in getting what you deserve, but I believe in mercy too. To everything there is a season.

If my daughter comes up pregnant it is my job as a father to teacher her not to get in that situation, but if she does it is my job to help her too.

He's made more than his fair share of dumb/questionable comments lately.

I understand and expect groups to do thorough background checks on people wanting to adopt, but why does it costs TENS of thousands of dollars and a year+ wait?? God chooses to "open the wombs" of many a bar hopping babe after their (many) one-night stands, and yet a couple has to practically prove themselves worthy of heaven based on their own works before they are granted a son/daughter as part of the adoption process.

I work at one of the largest birthing centers on the left coast (about 9-10000) babies are year) and we have a large fertility center. We have parents from all over the world use surrogate mothers and then have their babies here. Talk about million dollar babies........

Rice as a running mate would certainly appease the people who just want to see a female in the presidency. VP would make her next in line. And let's face it, McCain is no spring chicken. So who he chooses as running mate really DOES matter.

Dr. Rice may be a competent, accomplished, and decent person, but I don't believe she would be an effective or competent world leader.
