Admin, can you change the thread title please? To exclude the words real or rumor?
Thank you,

Someone has updated the Dottie Rambo Wikipedia page with this news. I know that they have people there who just watch for obituaries and death notices and update as soon as news breaks.
Here is the only news report that I've been able to find. http://www.fortmilltimes.com/124/story/160359.html

Just one of those things you don't believe at first...
We should share some of our favorite songs of hers.
I have memories of my dad singing this at bedtime, during his prayer time.
I’VE NEVER BEEN THIS HOMESICK BEFORE
Writer Dottie Rambo
There's a light in the window
And the table's set in splendor
Someone's standing by the open door (open door)
I can see a crystal river
Oh I must be near forever
And I've never been this homesick before
Chorus:
See the bright light shine
It's just about hometime
I can see my Father standing at the door
This world has been a wilderness
I'm headed for deliverance
Lord, I've never been this homesick before
I can see the family gather
Sweet faces, there all familiar
But no one's old or feeble anymore
Oh this lonesome heart is cryin'
Think I'll spread my wings for flyin'
Lord, I've never felt this homesick before
Too many sunsets lie behind the mountain
Too many rivers my feet have walked through
And too many treasures are waiting over yonder
There's just too much to gain to lose

We translated Build my mansion several years ago in Portuguese...
she sure wrote anointed songs...
One of my all-time favorites...
Oil and the wine, healing devine
The oil brings the gladness
There's life in the vine
Oil and the wine, such healing devine
Servants of mercy...if we are servants of mercy
Servants of mercy, pour in the oil and the wine

Gospel singer Dottie Joyce Rambo dies
(Published May 11, 2008)
MOUNT VERNON, Mo. — Gospel singer-songwriter Joyce "Dottie" Rambo died early Sunday when the bus she was in ran off a road in southwest Missouri and struck an embankment.
Rambo, 74, of Nashville, Tenn., died in the crash about two miles east of Mount Vernon on Interstate 44, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. Seven other people in the bus were injured, and were hospitalized in Springfield with moderate to severe injuries, the patrol said.
It was unclear if the accident, which occurred about 2 a.m., was weather-related, the patrol said. Severe storms and tornadoes hit the region about 6 p.m. Saturday, killing 14 people. Sustained winds and storms swept through the area later in the night, according to the National Weather Service."She was a giant in the gospel music industry," said Beckie Simmons, Rambo's agent. "Dolly Parton recorded some of her songs."
She was on her way to a Mother's Day performance in Texas, according to her Web site.
Rambo was inducted to the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007.
Rambo has had more than 2,500 published songs, including gospel classics such as "He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need" and the 1982 Gospel Music Association Song of the Year, "We Shall Behold Him."

That's what I'm reading...he was NOT killed. The thing about these type of stories is, for a time we are going to get conflicting reports.
What I read on the singingnews.com forum that was linked here is, at 2:19 this morning, MO State Troopers responded on I-44 outside of Mount Vernon, and she was dead at the scene.
Very sad...

this accident happened about a block from where my Biological sister lives well.. a mile but out there its pretty rural so what would be considered a city block... they were told that 2 died in the accident also but thats neither here nor there... its just sad all around. When I called my mom and told her who it was that was in the accident she was shocked... Said that would explain why everythings so crazy out there right now... they were however under the impression this happened after the tornado hit but they arent sure... she said there is so much debris in the road they may have even swerved to avoid and hit something... ..
My grandmothers house (which now belongs to one of my aunts) was destroyed right by where the accident occured and they said that there is debris from the house all over the place and parts of the house everywhere there. It happened right outside of Purdy nearer to Mt Vernon.
Well, at least she made her mark in this world, that's for sure.

I just saw this sad news on the internet and knew there would be a thread at AFF about it.
As someone mentioned it is just such a shocking way for someone 74 years old who has endured such incredible pain with her back problems to die.
Dottie blessed the family of God with a lot of powerful songs over the years. Anybody 40 or older knows that from the 60's through the 70's Dottie was one of the most prolific writers in Gospel Music.
I would love to go to her funeral if it is here in Nashville but I am going to be out of town most of next week unfortunetely.
I will be praying for Reba, her ex husband Buck, and the rest of the family.

I have so many of the Rambo records. Some great songs - have sung many of them through the years.. Every once in a while still have to get the old LPs out and listen.
A sad and tragic situation.... she will be missed.
I can only pray that Dottie didn't suffer. I hope she was asleep and never woke up.
We need to also remember to pray for all of the other people on the bus who all survived but are hospitalized with morderate to severe injuries. There was a total of seven people or seven people in addition to Dottie on the bus.
I also can't help but think what a horrible Mother's day for Reba to wake up to.

How very sad.
Now, I was never a super big Rambo fan even when I was a youngster.
But "The Singing Rambos" were such a part of our lives at JCM back in the days when southern gospel was king.
I've come to appreciate her music more now that I'm older.
Many of her songs were more "country gospel", but her soul and heart shone through what she wrote and sang, her Kentucky roots like Loretta Lynn's, or the east Texas piney woods that gave birth to such a great artist as George Jones or the north Alabama roots of Howard and Vestal Goodman.
Dottie, like the others, sang from the heart and captured in their music the true spirit of America, the Kentucky coal miner, the truck driver - the heart, soul, joy and pain of every day living and the hope of something better in the world to come.
The song of hers I'm thinking of right now is one that I'd normally think "corny" but it doesn't seem so corny right now - "Mama's Teaching Angels How To Sing" ...
I think the way she went is the hardest to swallow. Very shocking and sudden.
Yes, but she went home while she was on her way from one concert to another. This is so much better than being in a sick bed or nursing home for a long time. This soldier was called to headquarters while in action, not in a sick bay.
She wrote a lot about Heaven and now she is enjoying the real thing.
I'm sure it's far, far beyond anything she could imagine.

I can't link this.
I can only embed it.
But I'd like to think she's singing a duet again with Vestal Goodman ...
Now that I think of it, I can't think of another modern songwriter who had a better, love, vision or passion for Heaven, and wrote more articulately about the Next Life.

I need to go to bed, but keep thinking about her music. Talk about poetry...
The sky shall unfold preparing His entrance
And the stars shall applaud Him with thunders of praise
The sweet light in His eyes shall enhance those awaiting
And we shall behold Him then face to face...
while we're thinking and talking about Dottie, here's a story:
Today's Christian, November/December 2003
Story Behind the Song
Dottie Rambo's "He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need"
By Linda Owen
"Amazing Grace," shall always
be my song of praise
For it was grace that
brought me liberty
I do not know just why
He came to love me so
He looked beyond my fault
and saw my need
Throughout the '60s and '70s, Dottie Rambo, her husband Buck, and their daughter Reba, made up The Singing Rambos, one of the most successful southern gospel trios of all time. As the group's main songwriter, Dottie was prolific. Today, hardly any modern hymnal fails to include one or more of her 2,500 songs. Dottie's best-known song, by far, is the inspirational "He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need."
In 1970, Dottie began writing a song about the grace of God, but was unable to finish it. When her older brother was hospitalized with cancer and told that he had only weeks to live, Dottie sat by his bedside and ministered to him. Within a few days, she persuaded him to marry the woman who had borne him five children. Dottie read the Bible to him and prayed with him. One day, after singing at a concert, she returned to ask: "Have you given your life to Jesus since I've been gone?"
Eddie, 37, stared at her with sad eyes. "After the wicked life I've lived, the Lord won't raise a person like me," he muttered. He reminded her of his time in jail and his addiction to drugs and alcohol.
"The Lord left the 99 to bring a lost sheep like you back to the fold," Dottie told him. She continued to pray for his salvation. Then she went home and finished "He Looked Beyond My Fault." For years Jimmie Davis, the southern gospel singer and former Louisiana governor, had asked her to write a song to the tune of "Danny Boy." With this song, she finally discovered the inspiration. Later that day, she returned to the hospital to sing the song to Eddie.
On Sunday, after she finished singing in an Ohio church, Dottie felt the Holy Spirit's assurance that Eddie had been converted. Hurriedly returning to Tennessee, she found her brother so weak that he could barely talk. "Yesterday I gave my heart to the Lord and he forgave me," he whispered in Dottie's ear. "When I get to heaven, I'll wait for you at the Pearly Gates so we can enjoy heaven together."
Before he died, Eddie asked his sister to sing "He Looked Beyond My Fault" at his funeral.
The experience left Dottie even more determined "to share with the many hurting and wounded people in this world the wonderful message of God's great and unconditional love."
Showing no signs of slowing down after 50 years of songwriting, Dottie continues to speak at seminars and appear on Christian television. Since July, she has been celebrating the release of her new album, Stand By The River, which includes an updated version of "He Looked Beyond My Fault." Dottie tells fans that she sings "He Looked Beyond My Fault" every night, even if she's not performing. "It continues to feel like a brand-new song to me," she says. "The joyful news of God's grace never grows old."

From what we could observe life was not particularly kind to Dottie, but out of her pain she sang and gave praise to God. She sang and spoke of where she is today in most of the songs she wrote, I believe it is greater than all she could imagine, may God comfort and guide her family left behind.

I remember Dottie from WAY BACK WHEN. I was so very young and they all lived in Ohio and went to the ALJC church there. Having known them and seeing how big they became was always cool so we followed them and their music even after they left our area.
My late father-in-law and Reba had been boyfriend and girlfriend when they were young. Then they moved on and obvisously it was so that he could meet my mother-in-law and produce my wonderful wife.
Dottie did have many trials and tribulations during her life but she seemed to be an overcomer.
I will always remember them singing in church and at camp when I was little.
Sister Alvear were you ever in Ohio ministering and get a chance to meet them? They went to Bro Charles Smith's church back then.
I did not come to appreciate Dottie until later in life. When she was at her peak back when I was a teenager in the 70's I was into contemporary gospel music so Reba was the one I liked.
I remember at the age of around 15 getting in huge trouble with my pastor because myself and two other young people missed church on a Wednesday night to drive out of town to Leesville or Anacoca Lousiana to hear The Rambo's in concert at an AOG church.
This was around 1974-75 so they had not been out of the UPC but just a few years.
It was a great concert and one of the guys I was with hosted a Gospel Music radio program and he took me with him to interview Buck Rambo and had buck record a few promo's for his radio show.
It was a wonderful adventure until we got back home and faced the music or another kind from our pastor!

My first memory of Dottie Rambo was whenI was around 7 or 8 years old. (1962-63) The Singing Rambos were the guest singers at a UPC sectional rally in Joliet, Illinois.
I remember the place was packed, and Dottie played a guitar while they sing. I recall them singing the song, "Jubilee". My dad bought a record from that rally, and we wore it out because we played it so much!
In my mind, she the greatest songwriter ever!

Would be interesting to find out where that church was, as there has only been one UPC church in Joliet, IL since 1974, when my mom came into 'the church'.
I was born and raised in the Lockport, IL church, but know the Joliet church well. If it was packed, that means there was about 200-250 people there, if it was at the church currently in existance.
Of course, being so young, that was waaaaaaay before my time!! LOL!
But I have a lot of her music on my computer, and I'd have loved to have heard her sing in person just once.

I am not sure... this lady would be in her late 60s by now I am guessing... She has a daughter named Reba (named after Reba Rambo of course) and a son name Rich who is now a motivational speaker and if I remember correctly he held a seat in senate or something like that for a while. They lived here for a long time and I think they still do in the general area and she taught at our church school. She is the one who started the deaf ministry at our church also

I agree with some of the other comments. So sad, but just think - she won the race!!
What a devastating loss. Dottie Rambo is a hero to many of us! Amazing woman of God! So anointed. She will be greatly missed and remembered. Her voice lives on in her beautiful songs. My prayers are with her family and many dear friends...

however some can lose faith by running that through their mind.

Bro. Scott,
Pat Green is a Texas Country singer. His music is quite popular in South Texas (think San Antonio/Corpus Christi area) as well as all over.
I remember Dottie from WAY BACK WHEN. I was so very young and they all lived in Ohio and went to the ALJC church there.

They went to Bro Charles Smith's church back then.
Some time ago, the Rambos were part of a record that was used as a fund raiser for the youth dept. of an organization called the Apostolic Missionary Council or something like that. Some, if not all of that, was recorded at the church in Cincinnati pastored by Bro. Joe David Sizemore. I'm not sure when that was and if Bro. Sizemore was in the ALJC at that time or not. Maybe he was in both the AMC and ALJC back then. I don't know if the AMC even exists any more or not.

I was in my early teens when we would go once a year to dinner on the ground and hear the Singing Rambo's at Bro. Barnes church.
After a couple of years, they stopped having them and not to long after that they left the organization.
I thought I was cool because I got to sit up in the balcony. :)

I read a statement from the trooper on the scene that she broke her neck when she was flung from her bunk on the bus. Apparently, she died rather quickly and there was no suffering. God seemed to be very merciful to her considering the pain and suffering that she had endured in this life. She was a very gifted woman of God.

I talked with my mother, and she said that Kenneth Dyson was pastoring in Joliet at the time. I know that he was pastoring there by the late-sixties, but there may have a pastor there before him.
Ed Robertson has been the pastor there now for at least 30 years. He was an old man when he took over, and he's that same old man today.....LOL!
I recognize the name Kenny Dyson, but not sure why. My mom didn't get into the church until 1974, and I was just 5, but I remember the names of pastors in our section, as we had a very active church for several years of my attending there.
I talked to my mom about your dad and she remembers him being the pastor in Aurora. I don't. I just remember Billy Coltharp being there. She doesn't remember anyone before Bro. Robertson in Joliet, however. I don't believe the church has changed since Dyson was there, however. It's the same small church, considering the area they are in. It's just really never grown.

Oh and I forgot to add this to my last post... There were storms that came thru around the time of the accident (my mother and sisters and all of my biological family live within 20 miles of the accident and my sister and cousin live within 5 miles)but they still do not know if they were tornados or not... they said it is was it was a small one...they had horrible storms off and on there all night long... just one bad tornado registered tho... the rest could be or not...its still unclassified.

Im from Monett--born and raised.
I have family all over the area.
Right now I reside in NE Oklahoma. The storms hit us hard here.
I haven't read all the posts so I haven't seen what others have said about the cause.
I just know what time storms rolled through and where they went----not meaning tornadoes...just winds and damage.
I may be a bit jumpy about rumors starting. Tragedy tends to bring out all kinds of stories and it is horrible. In the past 24 hours I have heard that my son's T ball coach and his family were killed in the tornado. Along with every possible slant to the story. Most of it is rumor--The father and son are in Tulsa in ICU--the mother did pass away.
i guess I am just of the mind--don't say it unless you know it is fact.

The idea that it was caused by weather came from the news report--not an individual.
You know, it can be attributed to the storm/weather, even if it was a limb that was blown across the highway which caused the bus to run off the road 24 hours later. Not all the facts are known yet, but no one is deliberately handing out misinformation.
It certainly is a fact that Dottie Rambo was killed. No rumor there. A tragic loss which should be the focus of the thread. :(

Halo,
Please allow me to explain.
It was Sunday afternoon when a friend of mine sent me an email with a link to a website giving initial reports of the accident. At that time the news was not being carried by major media and it was even reported that her driver had been killed as well.
Then major media began to report it was possibly weather related.
My original post was titled "Dottie Rambo death real or rumor" and asked if anyone had heard or could confirm. When it was confirmed she had died I asked "admin" to change the title...
They were the ones that changed the "real or rumor" to "weather related".
I am not in the habit of starting rumors... when I posted it was all very new "news" and no one was certain of the details.

This is true and so sad.

My point is. I am HERE. I know what the weather was like. I know it is a possibility that it could have been a branch or something in the road.
I can't even get my point across without sounding hateful so I won't try..lol
Yes--the focus should be on her death. I am sorry to hear of it.
I just know PERSONALLY what the weather was like that night. I see the turmoil of it---I wouldnt catagorize her accident as weather related compared to what I have seen this weekend.

It is indeed the AMC, Inc.
Part of the liner notes read:
The Apostolic Crusaders Choir consists of youh from many Apostolic churches of like precious faith. Jackie Henderson of Flint Mi is director (she was the daughter of our pastor back in the day).
The Carthage Apostolic Church Choir is direceted by Jackie Sizemore of Cincinnati, OH.
Eileen Cagle, Fred and Jeanine Jezierski, and Dottie and Bucky Rambo furnish the instrument accompaniment."
Hmmm...just looked at the songs on here, and Dottie sings, I'm So Glad I've Got A Better Place To Go.

Somehow I missed this thread and just saw this. How tragic.I love her songs and have LP's and a double CD set.
Her songs will certainly live on. My husband and I sang duets of her songs in the 70's & 80's.
I heard her give her testimony on TBN in regard to being healed many times.
She leaves a great legacy.
Just read this on the Gaither's website...
"The bus was on the way to a Mother's Day performance in North Richland Hills, Texas, and was traveling through high winds when it ran off the road and hit an embankment approximately two miles east of Mount Vernon on Interstate 44."
Gloria gaither writes, "We have lost one of the truly great poets, but her voice will only be amplified by death. Songs of Dottie Rambo will more insistently than ever speak to the experiences of life bringing hope, counsel, encouragement and perspective."

Yes ma'am... there were high winds there all night. There were tornados that came thru the area earlier that same night but there were winds in excess of 50 mph that night that they believe caused this. Just caught part of a tribute by TBN of the night they gave a special tribute to Dottie, the night they awarded her with the Century Writers Award.
Reba and her husband and children sang some of her songs.
Reba said her Mom would get inspired to write at the most unusual times and wrote songs on anything that was available. She shared how some of the different songs came about.
It was interesting to see.
Dottie told the audience everyday she talks to Jesus and He is her comfort. She also said when I'm gone I hope they will say I left with a song. (paraphased)

I hope it was high wind or storm debris because the main other reason would have been driver error and if her driver had fallen asleep and caused this accident I know he would have been devastated. When I heard the time of the accident the driver falling asleep was the first thing I thought of beforer I heard of the storms.
I know that even though Nashville escaped the bad stomrs the last few days we still had isolated high gusts of winds that caused one semi truck to turn over on an interestate and then several cars hit it. On TV the damage to one of those cars looked really bad but the new report said there were no life threatening injuries.
According to an update on the Singing News forum that someone put a link on in an earlier post on this thread apparently there are several people that were on the bus still in critical condition. We need to remember to pray for them in addition to Reba and and the rest of Dottie's family.

I'm not sure why I read it...Dony & Reba's church site I think, but there is an update on the condition of the other passengers.

Isn't it kind of neat that she was on her way to a concert! I know there is no real consolation for losing a loved one, but if I were a family member, I think I would find comfort in knowing that she went out on her way to do what she loved.

Halo,
Please allow me to explain.
FYI
:)
I didn't see your request to Admin to change the title. I changed it when we knew it was fact and not rumor.
As to the cause being rumor, the police report said they did not know if it was weather related or not. Personally, I don't see the big issue here, but hey it's a forum and we swallowed the camel alot. :)

Yes, she loved serving the Lord. It was clear on her tribute how she continue to give Him praise. And if you pay attention to the words of her songs she wanted to lift Him up.

For anyone intersted, at GNC Bro. Rutledge wrote a beautiful post about his friend, Dottie Rambo...
I saw that it was indeed beautiful!
I remember Dottie from WAY BACK WHEN. I was so very young and they all lived in Ohio and went to the ALJC church there.... They went to Bro Charles Smith's church back then.
I have a copy of a book titled "The Legacy of Buck and Dottie Rambo" with a copyright date of 1992. On the cover it says it is "by Buck Rambo as told to Bob Terrell."
In it Buck mentions a time when they lived in a town named Hebron, Ohio near Columbus. He says this was around 1957.
Bumping for Sam...
I have that LP, Sam...!! :bliss
The Gospel Echos Trio sing two songs...man, I've haven't listened to this in ages...

A friend of ours had a copy of the album. He played on one of the songs. His name is Jack Sizemore and his brother, Joe David Sizemore, was pastor of the Carthage Apostolic Church when that album was made. The Sizemores knew Dottie when they were kids in KY.
A friend from the computer group I am in made a CD from the album. It was recorded from the record onto a CD so the quality is not perfect. It has 13 songs on it. The first 7 are by the Gospel Echoes and are: Get on Board; Nothing; Lazarus; I'm Longing to Go; Teach Me, Lord, to Wait; Our Debts Will Be Paid; and Love is Why. Then there are 6 songs by the Christian Chapel Trio (the Jezierskis). Their songs are: Because of Him; It's Different Now; His to Command; When I Move; Until Then; and Room at the Cross. I was not going to that church at the time the record was made. We started there in 1963 or 1964. The Jezierskis used to come down from Michigan (Flint, I think) and sing at anniversary services when we were going there.
If anyone wants a copy of the CD, you can PM me with your mailing address and I can burn a copy and send it to you. Like I said, the sound is not perfect. The first copy was made from an album that Jack had and it had a lot of snap, crackle, and pop noise. He found another copy of the album and borrowed it and I had a cd made from it and it is better.

I loved Dottie! She wrote the most beautiful songs "I go to the Rock" was one of my favorites! When I was a young child I remember Dottie was part of a trio, I think the name was "The Gospel Keys", my aunt still has the album our family bought when they came and sang and ministered at our church: and I received the Holy Ghost during that revival! Coming up on 40 years ago on May 17th! Wow time flies

Ahhh...so this is a different LP than I have. The one I have has the choirs I mentioned and The Gospel Echoes, plus the Christian Chapel Trio, Edwards Quartet, and Gene Price.
It is an AMC sponsored project...
Side note: Fred J played for my mom and dad's wedding...not sure if he's from Flint. Seems to me she said they were out of Bro. Traxel's (sp.) church in Detroit.

What a tragic loss. So sorry to hear we've lost yet another one of the greats in Gospel Music. Every church in North America and all around the world owe a debt of thanks to Dottie Rambo for the songs she has left with us.What a lasting legacy- what a gift from one who has endured so much. I think this one speaks to me more than any of them.
If That Isn't Love
Words and music by Dottie Rambo
He left the splendor of heaven,
Knowing His destiny,
Was the lonely hill of Golgatha,
There to lay down His life for me.
If that isn't love;
The ocean is dry,
There's no stars in the sky,
And the sparrow can't fly.
If that isn't love;
Then heaven's a myth,
There's no feeling like this,
If that isn't love!
Even in death He remembered,
The thief hanging by His side;
There He spoke with love and compassion,
Then He took him to paradise.
If that isn't love;
The ocean is dry,
There's no stars in the sky,
And the sparrow can't fly.
If that isn't love;
Then heaven's a myth,
There's no feeling like this,
If that isn't love!

I evangelized for eight years from Alabama to Idaho.
I've sat on platforms all over the UPC and heard literally thousands of special songs sung.
From a grass roots viewpoint, in small churches and large, all across the country; in both the PCI legacy and the PAJC ...
... I'd have to say Dottie Rambo's songs were sung as specials in UPC church services, campmeetings and conferences more than any other songwriter - except perhaps Lanny Wolfe.
It's close ... but I think Dottie still beats Lanny in pure number of "specials" sung of songs from their pen.

The first 7 are by the Gospel Echoes and are: Get on Board; Nothing; Lazarus; I'm Longing to Go; Teach Me, Lord, to Wait; Our Debts Will Be Paid; and Love is Why.
Is this the trio will Will and Shirley Coughhran? Or was it Buck, Dottie and Shirley?

That's Shirley Coughran. I'm possibly mispelling the last name. Either Shirley left the trio or Buck and Dottie went on there own. Shirley and Will Coughran formed the Apostolic Clefs with Mike and Sharon Spector. (possible misspell). Mike and Sharon were brothers and sisters. Then Sharon married Paul Haygood and they started their own group. I could be wrong on some this info. This was back in the early to mid 60's.
I also remember seeing the Rambos at the Minden UPC church on Sunday afternoons.

Dottie Rambo's funeral will be at 1 PM on Monday, May 18th.
Complete details will be forthcoming.
Larry Ferguson came through an extensive surgery this afternoon. He is in stable condition and recovering; however, he is still in critical care.
The bus driver Ronnie is also stable but in critical care.
Chris Barnes remains in critical care and is still awaiting surgery.

Regardless of how it happened, this is a tragedy. Her songs will forever be in our churches.
I tend to believe the storm is to blame. The bus doesn't look damaged enough to cause such extensive injuries. Since there are no witnesses, it is possible the tornado picked the bus up, slung it around and then landed it skidding into the ravine.

I was hoping the funeral would be at my church. I will do my best to be there. This will be the second female Gospel music giant to have her funeral at CC. Just a few years ago Vestal Goodman's funeral was there and she is interned with Howard behind the church in the CC cemetary.

Vestal and Dottie were definately giants in gospel music. CC, I hope you get to go and of course share your experience with us!
I stayed up late last nite and watched the "raw" footage of the Rambos that Mark Lowry shot in his home. I had seen this before, but wanted to watch it again because of Dottie's death. If you were a Rambo fan, this is worth a watch.

Wow, when I awoke Sunday morning to find several messages on my phone telling of this tradgedy I was completely heartbroken. In service I sang "Sheltered In The Arms of God" in tribute to this great lady whose talent and annointing has inspired me more than any other in my life.
Conflicting reports early on left me wondering whether or not she suffered. I found out just a few hours later that she passed away instantly. Dottie most likely did not fall out of a bunk, as they typically leased star coaches with a seperate bedroom for her in the back. This made it much easier on her to dress, and climbing in and out of bunks wouldn't be practical for a person with her health issues. With that said, this is probably why she is no longer with us. If she were in a bunk she would have been held in place a little better. In a full/queen sized bed in the back she would've had nothing to keep her in the bed when the bus left the road.
Dottie's managers wife Judy has stated that a big gust of wind forced the bus off the road. Larry has been taken to a private room in ICU and is stable. Ronnie (bus driver) is now stable as well but still in critical care. Chris is very much still in need of prayer, he is still in bad condition.
Someone commented about the bus not looking that bad, in the picture posted on this site, you can't see more than 5% of the actual damage of the bus. The entire front end of the bus is bent from the frame in an upward direction. You can definately tell the that bus hit the embankment at full speed.
Remember to keep in prayer, everyone involved. Larry and Judy are completely grief stricken. Ronnie and Chris as I understand still don't know that Dottie has passed. Larry was not only a manager to Dottie, he and his wife truely loved her as family. Many will never know the sacrifice and dedication they have put into making Dotties last 10yrs as great as possible.
I will be attending the service on Monday, is anyone else going?

Hoping that just because she doesn't fit the mold of what some feel it should be that they leave the judging to God. I'd rather not make this thread about whether or not she's in Heaven - - just hoping that some are thinking outside their box.

Thank you for the clarification, I was wondering if you thought that I didn't think outside the box. I cannot judge her, but am truly thankful that she is in the hands of a just God. I know a lot of people who think they know, but in reality, they don't. I will say that I was blessed by her songs, and that I sing some of them songs in church.

I would be very, very leary of judging. Very sad.
Haven't people mentioned that she came to their church to sing way back when? I took that to mean she had an apostolic background. Either way, the contribution she made to Pentecost is undeniable.

Absolutely - they were UPC at one point.
Which, of course, means squat :D (I'm serious!) but I imagine if they were UPC she was baptised and most likely filled with the Holy Ghost at some point in her life.
I'm so glad God hasn't given the final judgement of souls, to men... I'd be heading to the Lake of Fire for certain, if that were the case!
As far as I can tell, only God can judge the quick and the dead.. and we are only called to preach to the living. :)
I pray God will comfort Dottie's family and friends. I'm sure she's left a huge hole in their hearts.

Dottie and Buck are from the western Kentucky area. Churches there that would be called "Apostolic" or "Pentecostal" or "Holiness" are pretty varied and some have some "different" doctrines. Steve Epley could give you more information about both of them and their background. In the book, "The Legacy of Buck and Dottie Rambo" copyright 1992, Buck states that he joined the UPC at the invitation of Nathan Urshan so they could sing on Harvestime. Dottie did not join because they felt it was fine to have just one of them in the organization. They were later condemned by some UPC preachers because they sang on tv. They considered Bro. Jimmy Russel to be their pastor and he was a good Apostolic man of God (although some might not think so because he was a one-stepper). Jimmy Russel became a UPC preacher at some time.

Dottie preached in Finley, TN at the UPC church years ago when the late Bro. Meggs pastored there. There were occasions when there were tent revivals in the area as well and Dottie, Buck, Reba were there (and mosquitos!). Some of these visits would have been after Shirley sang with them but before Reba was actually singing with her parents. I can't remember the name of the lady that sang with them at that time. The Rambos were friends with some of my close family friends and church members and we on several occasions were together at the family's home for meals and fellowship when the Rambos were there. At the time just good old common down to earth folk in the ministry of the Lord's work.
I'm not her Judge, or anyone else's. She was an awesome writer of lyrics. The harmonies of their trio were some of the best. I have sung many of her songs for years.
My prayers and thoughts are with the family at this time of loss

Wow and all this time, I thought God was the one handing out judgements. I had it totally wrong, I didn't know that right was reserved for preachers who probably don't have enough love to stop and help someone in a car accident or any other tragic situation because they don't look apostolic. (I know that was a run on sentence, who cares)
I know people, who sit in UPC churches every week, sing in the choir, or on the worship teams. People who are in some form of position at the church, and yet they are involved in a homosexual lifestyle, committing adultery, going out to the clubs on friday nights drinkin and havin a good ole time. Come Sunday morning however they are right up there shouting and speaking in tongues with the best of them. Because they look the part though, nothing is ever said by the pastor because he assumes they are ok because of the "standards" they adhere to.
This is no hearsay, I KNOW these people personally. But by all means lets crucify a lady whose only problem was she cut her hair and wore makeup.
Given the choice, I'd rather take my chances with the hair and make up, than to live in open out right rebelious sin, and still pretend that everything is ok. Of course obviously pastors dont pray for discernment anymore, or they never had it to begin with. If they only way our pastors can determine the spiritual state of a persons soul is by they way they dress. SOMETHING is TERRIBLY WRONG.

Elder Russell did NOT teach that but he believed that unless he changed in his last years which I doubt. Anyone hearing him preach would have never believed he believed that. Also Elder Russell was not much of a conversationalist however as a young man I traveled hours with him and we discussed this. I am glad most do not know he believed this.

I only heard Bro. Russell preach once. That was about 30 years ago and I don't remember what he said. I'm not sure where I got the idea he was a one-stepper --if it was from things said about him and by folks in his church choir who visited our ALJC church for about three services or just where. He was very strong on baptism in Jesus' name but some of the wording in his autobiography when he talked about baptizing folks may have led me to believe that he didn't believe that baptism is essential to salvation. Eld. Steve Epley knew him well and respected him. I asked Steve if Bro. Russell was a one-stepper and he said he was.
Eld. Epley, unless I misunderstood what you told me, I think you said Bro. Russell was a one-stepper.
If I am wrong, please correct me in answer to this post.

Why? If this is what he really believed, why should people not know? I wouldn't think he would have cared.
His take was somewaht different he believed the water & Spirit teaching but he believed those who had genuinely repented would be saved at the White Throne.
His father pastored what we called a "dry-lander church" they did not believe in water baptism period only Spirit baptism he was raised in that church. His mother died having not been baptized so in my youth I asked about the salvation of his mother. He said you must be born again to enter the kingdom thus he said she would be resurrected after the kingdom(1,000) and be judged.
He fervently preached Acts 2:38 and baptized probably in the thousands.

I read this morning that the service won't be podcast (streamed). There will be a video of the services released at a later date.

STATEMENT FROM PASTORS DONY & REBA RAMBO MCGUIRE
Because of the intimate nature of this service, we will not be streaming this event live. We know many of you are desiring to share this moment. A keepsake memorial video will be available at a later date once the family has gotten past the shock of this sudden loss. Everyone subscribed to our web site will receive an e-mail at that time.
We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.
Please continue to keep the Ferguson/Barnes/Meadows families in your prayers. We have no further updates on their recovery right now.
P.S. For those of you who have asked, Mother's precious Yorkie Tasha was found and is in safe keeping!
Maybe they could have a private service and a public service. They could stream the public service.
I received this and thought I would pass it on:
Dottie Rambo has died. On Mother's Day, God took one of the greatest mother's ever, home
to be with him. Dottie was one of the most prolific songwriters of our day, and the divinely inspired
words and lyrics of her songs touched the hearts and lives of millions of people. The following is a short
bio........
Dottie Rambo Bio
by Barry Drudge
Her songs touch millions. Her voice is heard around the world, her heart an open book. Celebrating sixty years of changing lives in song and word-this is Dottie Rambo. Kentucky is an essential ingredient in Dottie's makeup. Its hills and streams were her playground. The rhythm of its people's speech the early pattern for her music's cadence. No matter where she has traveled, the pull of the bluegrass state has never been far away. Dottie Rambo was born Joyce Reba Lutrell in Madison, Kentucky during the Great Depression. Her family next set up residence in Morganfield near relatives. The financial crunch that gripped the nation didn't miss a single part of the country-including Dottie's home place. But the stamina of friends and family during tough times instilled a resilience in little Dottie that would all too soon be needed in her travels far from home. Songwriting found her at a young age. The eight-year-old Dottie was out playing in the creek when words and music for her first song came bubbling forth. It startled her so much that she ran all the way home to tell her mother. As she excitedly sang it, her mother's face went through myriad emotions. "Did you hear this song somewhere?" her mother asked. "No ma'am," Dottie said. "Are you sure that you didn't hear it on the radio?" "Oh no mamma," Dottie said, "It came from me." Her mother held her close and cried. She told Dottie this great gift would be a blessing and a burden. She told her to treasure and guard it.
By ten little Dottie was playing guitar and singing on local country radio. Her voice sounded beyond its years as she covered now-classics like Ernest Tubb's "Walkin' The Floor Over You." Her skill and flair made her family proud. Her father enjoyed her gift and hoped to see her go beyond their meager living to become a singer on Nashville's WSM Grand Ole Opry. But a career as a country singer/songwriter was not to be. Dottie gave her life to Christ at the age of twelve. Her conversion was fiercely protested by her father, a man whose own strong will had no time for religion. He wanted to see his daughter make it big and live better, not suffer singing in backwood churches for little or no pay. He made an ultimatum: either stop the Christian singing or leave his house. Dottie chose to stick with the feelings that had ignited in her heart. She would take the road that made most sense to her-singing about Jesus. As hard as it is to imagine in our modern child safety-conscious world, Dottie was escorted the few miles to the bus stop by her mother. All her earthly belongings were in a cardboard suitcase. Her name and address were on a tag around her neck-just in case she got lost. The twelve-year-old had been invited to sing in Indianapolis, Indiana and would be going it alone. "I am going to worry God to death over you," her mother sobbed.
Dottie hugged her and assured her that she would be all right, and all right she was. People were amazed to hear such a big voice come from such a little girl with an even bigger guitar. Offerings were taken up everywhere she went, and she sent a portion home, a portion saved for tithes and the rest to buy clothes and guitars. Dottie realized early on that people didn't come to see some little urchin. They came to see somebody who had it all together, and Dottie was all that and more. By the 1950s she married and had her daughter, Reba. But the call to sing the songs of her heart never diminished. She and her husband, Buck Rambo, would travel across the region and sing her songs at churches for little money. Many times they held down day jobs while driving many miles throughout the night to arrive just in time to sing and go back home. Other singing groups heard her songs and started singing them too. Through one of these groups, the Happy Goodman Family, her songs caught the attention of the then- governor of Louisiana, Jimmy Davis. Governor Davis flew her and her family to the governor's mansion so that she could sing her songs for him. It was her first plane ride. She felt this meeting required greater deportment than she had ever considered. But Dottie was a quick learner. Her gifts of observation and adaptation (plus a healthy dash of competitive spirit) have continued to serve her well in the face of an ever-changing and progressing music scene. Governor Davis paid Dottie around three-thousand dollars to publish her songs. It was more money than she had ever seen. Once Jimmy Davis Music started promoting Dottie Rambo songs in the early 1960s, things would never be the same. During this time Warner Brothers Records signed Dottie and her group, The Gospel Echoes, to a two-record deal. In the middle of it, Warners' executives didn't know what to do with Christian music and suggested that the group move to folk (which the label did with Peter, Paul and Mary) and that Dottie consider doing Rhythm and Blues. She declined both offers. Her heart was in Gospel music and couldn't be budged.
Within the span of a few more years Dottie went from $50 a week singing in churches to singing at the largest concert dates across the country. She and the trio were the first non-quartet singers to sing at the Gospel Quartet Convention. Dottie was one of the first Gospel singers, along with her family the Singing Rambos, to sing in Viet Nam for the American troops in 1967. But Dottie didn't stop at the stage. Dottie's heart led her to the medical tents where men were hurt and dying. Dottie sang, prayed and ministered to those who were hurt beyond repair. Nobody asked her to, but Dottie Rambo went above and beyond the call of duty at every turn. Her 1968 album, "The Soul Of Me" won the Grammy for best Gospel Album, beating out the likes of Mavis Staples and James Cleveland. Billboard magazine called her "Trendsetter of the year" because of singing with an all-black choir. Her recordings held fast to the cutting edge, using top Nashville musicians, always making her records on par with anybody else on the charts. Dottie continued to observe and adapt. And the songs never stopped. After writing her heartfelt blockbuster, "He Looked Beyond My Faults (And Saw My Need)," the doors opened for her songs to be recorded by such luminary artists as: Elvis Presley, Barbara Mandrell, Bill Monroe, Johnny Cash, Whitney Houston, Vince Gill, Dottie West, Pat Boone, Sandy Patty, the Oak Ridge Boys and countless others. Her ability to use the right words and haunting melodies make her songs timeless-all 2500 plus that have been counted through ASCAP! Dottie's children's project, "Down By The Creek Bank," is one of the most successful Christian Children's records in history, earning platinum record status.
Whitney Houston recorded, "I Go To The Rock" for the Movie, "The Preacher's Wife" and won a Dove (along with Dottie) for performing a song that Dottie's own record company wouldn't let her release because they originally felt it was too "rock and roll." But her life has not been all highs. Like her lyric, "You will have to live the song before you know," she has known heartache, loss, betrayal, abandonment ending with severe back trauma that would end most careers. Since 1989 Dottie has endured severe back pain from a ruptured disc that caused her vertebrae to calcify to her spinal cord. But Dottie could not be kept down! A dozen surgeries have not quieted her gift. Throughout the 1990s Dottie continued to sing across the country and on television. Each step made her stronger. Each moment she sang and spoke to others built her confidence and strength. And the accolades kept coming in. In 1994 the Christian Country Music Association awarded her with the Songwriter of the Century Award. Even the industry outside Gospel music has taken note of all that Dottie Rambo has accomplished. In 2000, ASCAP honored Dottie with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. The 21st century brought had her back in the recording studio making her 71st album, "Stand By The River." Not only was the project strong in song and performance, but had the added bonus of country legend Dolly Parton joining in on the title track. Again it was a chart topper-giving Dottie hit records through five decades. And it had the added prestige of the duet with Dolly being nominated for CCMA song of the year, duet of the year, Dove nominated for Country Recorded Song Of The Year, Gospel Fan Awards for Duo Of The Year and Song Of The Year. All that bubbling out of a little girl from Kentucky.
The songs of Dottie Rambo have proven staying power. Through good times and bad, triumph and trial, they are there to console, uplift and sometimes just make you laugh. Her songs-emanating from record, cassette and CD players-are the modern-day campfire we all gather around and feel warm. There is a belief: even if she hadn't written one song, she still would have changed the world-this is Dottie Rambo.

Question for CC1 or Pianoman have you heard who is speaking at the funeral?
I haven't heard. I am still going to try and go to the funeral if everything stays calm at work and I have no unexpected issues to deal with.
The only thing I have heard is what was posted here about Bill Gaither and Geron Davis putting together some kind of celebrity choir to sing at it.

Dellperson,
Unless something weird happens at work (and that has been happening a lot lately) I plan on being at the funeral.
Just look for the big fat guy with thick glasses!
Do you live in Nashville? If so what church do you attend?
Hey CC, I don't live in Nashville but I am there quite often. Lexington,KY is where I call home. I'm in FT.Wayne Indiana at the moment, so about 9pm or so I'll be headed back towards Nashville.

I am sure it will be a moving service. All my life I have loved her songs. We will be having special prayer for her family and friends in our evening service.
Thank you both...Reg won't believe it, but thank you...
I am sure it will be a moving service. All my life I have loved her songs. We will be having special prayer for her family and friends in our evening service.
This is one of my favorites...
Soon I'll come to the end of my journey
And I'll meet the One Who gave His life for me
I will thank Him for the love that He gave me
And ten thousand years or more, I'll reign with Him

I was wondering do you think Buck will attend her funeral today?
I know it will be a hard day for Reba being an only child.

Oh, I believe he will - if not for any other reason than Reba is still his daughter.

Not knowing the relationship between them, I figured he might since she is an only child.
BUT if she is bitter about the divorce, who knows???

Whatever happened to Buck Rambo, singer Dottie Rambo’s former husband? We care about Dottie, her songs, tapes and all of her health problems.
—James P., Washington
Buck Rambo and his current wife, Mae, are associate pastors at a Nashville, Tenn., church led by his daughter and son-in-law, Reba and Dony McGuire. The church ministers to residents of the inner city. Until recently, Buck would visit churches across the country to sing his gospel music and speak to the congregation. “I don’t travel anymore,” he says, “and we’re so busy with the church that I don’t sing much. I preach and I teach.” Though best known for his hits as a gospel singer in the 1960s and ’70s, Buck has always been involved in ministering churches. Born in Dawsons Spring, Ky., during the Depression, he began traveling and preaching at revival meetings in the early 1950s. He and Dottie Rambo married after meeting at a revival, when she was just 16. Reba was born a year and a half later, and started singing with her parents when she was just 3. Buck and Dottie divorced in the early 1990s. Dottie, whose health problems kept her away from singing for many years, recently released an album, Stand By The River.

South of I 90,
This is the link I posted the information from.

Quite possibly the link I posted was outdated as there is nothing on
the McGuires church website to indicate Buck & Mae are there.
He is on the site you posted.
Thanks for the correction.
