Everyone makes mistakes and get into financial difficulty. If the church is doing poor financially then it stands to reason that the Pastor will also. The Leadership has the same responsibility that the saints do to practice good stewardship, but they should not be held to any different standard than the rest. We are talking personal finances. Church finances should have an adequate checks and balances system that includes more than the Pastor and his wife;)!

The leadership should be an example but we ALL go through financial difficulty at times.

My pastor and senior pastor give most of their income to the church...what their personal finances are I have no clue...and it's none of my business unless they are misappropriating funds...I trust them they are good stewards!

I heard it taught one time, that this scripture was referring to witnessing. The preacher was stating that we should always share the truth with those whose paths we crossed, and that we should owe no man...*smile*

I was completely shocked when one day, a UPC pastor of a very large church during a regular, normal service began telling what he would do with the money if he won the lottery.

I couldn't believe my ears. He was going on and on like someone daydreaming..."Well, the first thing I would do is this...then this...and use some for that...then that..." :dunno

if you are going to use this scripture as the standard, then you dont use a financial disaster as the guide post. If you use this scripture as the guide post for who belongs in the pulpit, then anyone with a mortgage or a car note or if you carry a balance on a credit card disqualifies.

well, I grew up with a huge complex. I remember asking my dad what he would do with a hundred thousand dollars.... back when that meant something... he replied without missing a beat, "pay my bills and keep on working."

Some finanancial issues should not be judged. Like high medical bills, even when u have insurance. We went through it with our son.

We are not in the pulpit.

But I would not judge my minister.

I would long for the church board to raise his salary.

Can you imagine how confusing it would be for a pastor who pays off his credit card every month... "I am their pastor, I am their pastor-not, I am their pastor...I am their pastor-not" :bliss

Then when good ministers seem to have money. We tell them they don't know our struggle. Or they should have nothing.
