I use to be a great admirer of Jakes.
nothing anyone would say would sway me.
but no more! the things I've heard and read the last 2 years and RECENTLY has changed that
.
I dont disagree with what I read i dont know if it was all he said.
if he endorses Obama I will disagree, but EVERY election is a victory for democracy.
the fact that a black guy has won the nomination is a good thing for America.
Now if he gets elected.... because of his political views, i think it would be bad for america.
I am just surprised considering the separation of Church and state that they can do that.
In Canada a Church endorsing a candidate is in danger of losing thier Tax exempt status as a Charity.

AG, you just about said it all!
I love T.D. Jakes and full well understand the pride that all African Americans must have at the first nomination of a black (well, ok half black!) man for President of a major political party.
I do wish he would have the fortitude to then not support him based on his policies and views.
Did any of you actually read the commentary Jakes made? He didn't endorse Obama. He was speaking as a black man in America of how proud he is that someone of his color has made it this far, given the history America has with slavery and the civil rights movement. He was speaking in terms of this nomination giving hope to other African Americans, specificially his son, that they too could some day reach their full potential, in spite of our history with slavery, the civil rights movement, and slavery.

Yes that is correct Rico.

Anyone who does this and is a preacher right now is taking everything at a great risk considering all the other pastors who have backed Osama!
Then we have Oprah saying... "I am just following my own truth and my truth has led me to Obama... and everyone knows where her truth is right now... and yet these pastors want to back him too! Sad...

Jake's has become more and more Liberal socially.
I believe he had Doc Phil speak at his church at some point.
There are several red flags going up. I wont mention all
of them but he has changed a lot and is changing
I don't think he is a bad person and I have really
gotten a lot out his past ministry, but he is not
what he use to be.
He is more on par with Joel Osteen and Doc phil now

I think it's fascinating to see Christian leaders break ranks with the conservative voting "block" we've been told we have to stay in. I'm hoping and praying that Democrats experience a spiritual renewal of sorts that brings them more in line with the values of average Americans. More and more Pro-Life Democrats are taking offices in local, state, and congressional races and Democrats are daring to be more vocal about their faith, something the average Democrat views as private and personal. I believe that our country will not see the revival it needs until Christian faith begins to play a significant role in both the Republican and Democratic parties. We cannot afford to allow one of our two primary parties to remain godless and secular.
Pray for the Democratic Party.

Aquila, It's not that Barrak is A democrat( for which I am one),
and it's not that he is black. I think it would be WONDERFUL
to finally have a black man in office. The problem is,
Barrak is a RADICAL

Dr. Phil actually has Jakes on his show as well - even when they are at odds on the issues. I find it refreshing that religion is given a great deal of credibility on Dr. Phil's show.
I'm not sure of the connection you are drawing between Joel Osteen and Dr. Phil. Dr. Phil is not a minister and does not claim to be one.
I don't understand comments like "he's not what he used to be". Seems very dismissive of someone's ministry. Maybe he feels led to go in a direction that you don't agree with, but since when does that make him less of a man of God?

Sadly, today every politician is radical. McCain is a radical Social Darwinist and Obama is obviously a very liberal liberal.

Among the vast majority of Christian Conservatives the answer is "yes". Christian Conservatives have a mission...elect Republicans. Any Christian who disagrees with the Republican party or the Republican platform is considered a compromised Christian in need of repentance (returning to the Republican Party).
What Christian Conservatives fail to see is that there are many devout Christians who don't agree with the Republican Party.

I just think you shouldn't mix church and politics. It's that simple...
Look at the grief Jakes is getting now. I agree with Rico, it was a simple message of hope for African-Americans. But I think we can all agree that assumptions are now being made that he is endorsing him...but will he REALLY vote for him??? Um, we'll see...
I'm a Republican, but I don't like either choice. What's a person to do???

Did you see the clip on CNN about the town hall meeting Obama had today? A lady brought her 95 year old father or grandfather to the meeting. She said he had waited all of his life to see this day. The old man had carved a walking stick and gave it to Obama. Obama told him he would keep it. I can see where they are coming from and understand their joy.

It's being said that Obama is launching more than a campaign...it's a visionary movement that will, should he will, re-define the Democratic Party and define the the next generation of politics.

Actually, no, I didn't see that. I have trouble keeping up with news when I get the forum fever! :D I can certainly see how black Americans have something to be proud of, even if they don't agree with Barack Obama's political leanings. This NEVER would have happened 45 years ago. NEVER. It's something for all of us to be proud of and hopefully will be viewed by history as another turning point in the racial attitudes of America.

I read the piece but did not see any endorsement. Condalisa Rice made similar statements.
