COOP - Sounds like you need to get yourself down here to ATLANTA, GA for some good ole country cookin'!
I wanted to go fishing today.... unfortunately hubby had other WORK plans for today. My dad's pond has the BEST catfish.... and it's about the kind of weather that we like to set up the outdoor fryer and cook fish outside.
I'm determined to go fishing.... maybe I should schedule a "field trip" for the kids. Wouldn't it be considered educational to learn to bait a hook, remove fish from the hook, etc.... :D

I'll have you to know sir, that Canada - to be more specific - Grand Manan Island, is the first place I ever had such a thing. Ugh! But then I'm not a big pickle lover anyhow. Each to his own. :tiphat

One thing I dearly love is home grown tomatoes....There isn't anything like it!
Another thing that my family loves is a good ol fish fry! My grandpa makes the best fish and he enjoys showing off as much as he can.
We normally gather at grandma and grandpas and sit ,talk and eat until the mosquitos start biting too bad....lol
Grandpa always has fresh strawberry pies or a french coconut on special occasions--he always has them hid and then will whisper to one of the grandkids about his hidden treasure. Of course we all make a fuss and he yells "you better save me some!" as we run into the house.

Make the batter for the fried pickles with some Tony C's in it.
Real good that way.
Add some Tony C's to some ranch dressing to dip 'em in and you got yourself a party.

To be honest with you, My first taste of fried pickles was at Hooters.
We had to meet the father of our little girl we adopted to sign papers at Hooters.
He was the short order cook there, he requested we meet him at work.
He ordered us fried pickles, I was in love!
Sometimes my wife and I will call in an order to go.

Smelt - I love it when you get those big huge barrels full of smelt, then everybody stands around cutting heads off and running their fingers down the middle to get rid of the insides. Batter 'em up and throw them in a big pan of oil heated over a wood fire outside. Mmmmmmmmmm
But my all time favorite spring thing really is strawberries!! End of May, beginning of June, when the field open up for "You Pick", we get there early, early in the morning and fight the mosquitoes off so we can get the biggest, sweetest, best berries. And please do NOT put anything on them - do not put them in a pie - do not do anything at all except wash them in some water and cut the stems off. THAT is good 'eatin!!
