Can someone post a simple no fail way to boil eggs? I boiled 9 today...and two were very easy to peel...the rest were very hard...not a pretty site.

If someone can share the procedure with me...I'd be much obliged! :tiphat

Peel them under cold water. Crack the shell real good, too.

This is what I do. I very seldom have a problem peeling them.

Tap the egg on the counter to crack , then roll it gently between your palms.

This loosens the shell and it will peel off.

It also depends how fresh the egg is!!!

Thanks for the tips!

Here's what I did today...

I put the eggs in water...brought the water to a boil...let it boil for 5 minutes...then I immersed the eggs in cold water...and then started to peel...I will try the tips here next time!

Thanks again!

I don't know if this makes a difference in how they peel but I always bring eggs to a full boil, cover them and turn off the heat. Let them stay for an additional 15 mins. Then I run them under cold water and peel them immediately. It does depend on how fresh the eggs are as to how easily they peel.

Someone told me that if you salt the water, they peel easier. I always salt it and it seems to work, but I don't know if that's why. I boil them for ten minutes or more and then immediately put them in cold water, even adding a few ice cubes. The shells peel right off!

A couple of tips I have learned. If you put a little bit of oil in your water it is supposed to help keep them from cracking.

Put them in cold water and take a teaspoon and insert after cracking and run around the edge and usually the shell will just pop off.

The freshness of the eggs will definitely effect how well they peel. :)

So are you all saying that the fresher the egg, the easier it will peel?

I've always heard the opposite. In fact, my mom used to buy eggs 2 weeks before Easter and then dare us to touch them. She wanted OLD eggs so they would peel easier on Easter.

Fresh eggs are harder to peel.

My Mom raises eggs. :)

Found out the hard way.

i have heard that if you put a little vinegar in the water it will get rid of that sulfer smell, and green ring on the yolk.

Thanks for all of the replies...I tried rolling mine on the counter today before cracking them...they were relatively easier to peel

I've never heard that about the vinegar...thanks Ferd!

let them sit in very cold water as soon as they are done boiling.....not only will they be easy to peel - no green ring on your yolk.

The fresher they are, the harder they are to peel -

Let them sit for like a half hour...

easy peasy to peel!

I wasn't sure why we put vinegar in them, but Mom always did.

Also, I have heard if you leave your eggs sitting in water too long it will cause them to turn the yolks green.

It's going to be hard to convince anyone to use warm med hot water to peel the eggs, since all have mentioned using cold water.

The only way will be for you to try this and see that it works well.

After boiling leave in the hot water for approx. 10 minutes.

Drain and run cold water over them in the pan and then take an egg, crack it, roll it around until all of shell is cracked.

Now take the egg and with 1/4 stream of med hot tap water running over the egg, start at the large end of the egg, and get under the film or the thin inner lining of the egg. With the water now under that film/llining ... peel off the shell. It will come off easily and almost a full piece.

Cold water contracts and makes the shell cling tightly and it usually has to be peeled little pieces at a time while it pulls off portions of the egg white.

Med hot water (keep it running over the egg) makes the shell expand some and once water is funning under film the shell removes very easily.

Peeling time is greatly reduced and OH SO MUCH EASIER. Be willing to change the warmth of the running water.
