I just saw this video last night. My husband brought it home from Blockbuster Video unaware that a church had made the film with two cameras and a $100,000? budget.

It was very interesting and had a lot of good thoughts and messages in it. However, I am a wee bit troubled by the end in which everything is so neatly sewn together. If only real life were so easy...

But overall very impressed with what a church did to reach this Hollywood focused generation... I look forward to seeing what they do next.

So rent the video and sit down with your family. It's nice to see Christianity (and decency) portrayed in a movie as a normal fact of life. And its a great way to vote with your pocket book.

LadyRev showed this video to her youth group and invited certain adults as well. After the movie, we had the kids pray for a few minutes and us adults went around and prayed with them. It was very nice and we had fun too.

Our pastor asked the church tonight if anyone else was interested in watching it on Tuesday night. Many people raised their hands, including the kids! So we are viewing it again before it's due to go back to Movie Gallery.

From the award-winning producers of FLYWHEEL comes a new, action-packed, family-friendly drama about a high school football coach who draws up a new game plan for his team … and himself.

In his six years of coaching, Grant Taylor has never had a winning season. Even the hope of a new season is squelched when the best player on his Shiloh Eagles decides to transfer schools. After losing their first three games of the season, the coach discovers a group of fathers are plotting to have him fired. Combined with pressures at home, Coach Taylor has lost hope in his battle against fear and failure.

However, an unexpected challenge helps him find a purpose bigger than just victories. Daring to trust God to do the impossible, Coach Taylor and the Eagles discover how faith plays out on the field … and off.

With God, all things are possible …

Excellent movie! Worth seeing more than once. Some of my youth group kids agree.

My husband and I were talking about how the commericals and all the sitcoms NEVER have a normal family setting.

I saw this movie this weekend. I thought it was good.

Although in the real world it doesn't always turn out the way you want it to.

But it had a good story line.

I saw it. I'm not sure I can say I liked it. I like what they were trying to portray, (Matthew 6:33) but overall, I thought it was kind of cheesy. Sorry.

Whatsa matter? No blood and guts so its just gotta fall into the "cheesy" category? :tease

My YOUTH group loved it! They didn't think it was "cheesy" at all. When it comes to teenagers, no one knows "cheesy" better. Sorry.

We bought this "inspirational" movie two weeks ago. We loved it!
It was great to see such a positive theme throughout the movie. I saw nothing cheesy in it at all.

Very well acted and produced. The entire plot and message is awesome.

I am disappointed that you think this movie was cheesy but you have a right to your opinion. The kids (and adults) that made this movie put their heart into it. They have touched many lives because of this film. I applaud this church for giving Hollywood garbage competition.

Why do you think that?We watched it twice. My wife and kids liked it. For me, it was just ok. It's not that I "didn't like it", I just think it was a little oversimple and unrealistic.

Others have stated their disdain for the way everything played to a perfect conclusion and with them I agree.

BTW, I did not discuss this with my family, only here.

I agree that everything in life doesn't have a perfect solution but with God things are so much better. He can make a way where there is no way.

I agree with drummerboy_dave, it was cheesy in spots - the dialogue and plot mostly. Who better to beat the "Giants" football team than a little second-string kicker named "David." *grin* I almost turned it off until the scene with the death crawl. That scene, for me anyway, was the best part of the movie. Watching the guy crawling blindfolded with the coach right there encouraging him . . . almost giving up, but listening to the voice as it encouraged him to press on. Wow! I've watched that one scene probably a dozen times or more.

The message that the film gives out is that everything will work out perfect, if you put your trust in God. In reality, I don't think God would change the wind direction so a fieldgoal could be made! But hey...that's just me!

My wife and I did enjoy the movie though. It had second rate actors, but the storyline and film shooting was very good! :)

The second rate actors are church members of the church that produced it. Oh, with the exception of Mark Richt who is the Georgia Bulldogs Coach. :D

That was the only problem I had with the movie, too. Sometimes it doesn't always work out the way we want it to, but God is faithful to provide our needs.

I watched it with my 22 year old daughter and we both enjoyed it. I thought all the symbolisms were kind of neat - the David, Giants.... even the friend, Jonathan.

Cool flick! I totally agree with the overall sentiments.. Sometimes the wife does not get pregnant and the couple is blessed with adopting a really cool kid who also needed a miracle.... BUT again it is a great movie, and far better than some of the cheese released as "christian" films

We just watched this movie with our kids (and my 74 year old mother) a couple of weeks ago. We all liked it, and although the acting wasn't the best, the overall message came through loud and clear. There were several very touching moments.

I think the way things are "sewn up neatly" in the end can be very realistic--I have seen God work very powerfully in lives close to me and in our own lives, and it's great to see that reality illustrated for once, instead of all the negativity we are constantly inundated with. There's a couple in our church who waited 15 years for a child, and when things seemed completely hopeless, K. finally became pregnant, they had a little girl, and named her "Faith." Talk about happy endings! In reality!

There is a lot to be gained by allowing God to move and work in your life, and I think the lesson learned is that in spite of the struggles you face, things WILL work out eventually--in God's time and in accordance with His plan. :)

Oh, please. My Dad was a bear of man with a neck the size of a small country who could probably break you in two with his bare hands, and when he cried it was a big sloppy mess. :) Break out your Kleenexes and quit holding everything in. The Bible doesn't say that Jesus sniffled. It says He "WEPT."

My daddy can beat up your daddy!:bliss

I'm not talking about real life issues that can cause a man to dry, were talking about a movie character who, IMO, seems like he was always about to cry. I'm not afraid to cry, done my share.

Not comparing Daddies. I'm not a boy. ;) Just pointing out that big, burly, manly men can and should shed tears when the situation warrants it.

A couple of the posts concerned the movie's rating.

Thought the following was interesting information.

Rating controversy

In May of 2006, the producers of Facing the Giants received notice from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) that the film would be receiving a "Parental Guidance Suggested" rating, or "PG" rating. One of the film's consultants, Mark Joseph, who had also conducted media strategy for films such as The Chronicles of Narnia and The Passion of The Christ and had unsuccessfully lobbied Walden Media to release Giants, alerted The Drudge Report which picked up the story on June 8, 2006. Within hours the story was a hot topic in religious and conservative media, outraging many who believed the MPAA was entering uncharted territory by allowing the religious content of a film to influence ratings decisions. In the ensuing days the story garnered media attention in countless media outlets like the New York Times, Good Morning America, Fox News and countless talk radio programs.

According to the film's producers, they were originally told the motion picture received a "PG" rating because of its strong religious themes and because it elevated one religion over another. The MPAA later countered that Facing the Giants contains football violence and also deals with the mature topics of infertility and depression, thus warranting the higher rating and initially denied that religious themes were an issue. The Kendrick brothers expected the "PG" rating because of the movie's mature themes and did not appeal the board's rating. The producers claim the MPAA changed their story after the controversy began.

The MPAA, which oversees the rating board, received more than 15,000 email messages within a week because of their decision and the media attention it drew, ten times more than they had ever received for any previous film.

Conversely, some Christian groups thought a "PG" rating might sway more teenagers into seeing Facing the Giants. "I think that a 'G' for a lot of teenagers is the kiss of death," Focus on the Family media specialist Bob Waliszewski told the Los Angeles Times. "(The PG rating is) a case where unfairness will probably be a blessing in disguise." One report claimed the publicity garnered from the controversy was worth "about $8 million"
