I hope you get some rest, my friend.

Bro Scott, Take it from a 42 year old who went from 250 to 173. I am now at 190.

Only because I got too thin.

Stay off caffeine, soda and bread.

Walk some and drink 8 glasses of water a day.

That is all you need to do.

You will feel better, sleep better and think more clearly...

I will pray God will give you the vision and the desire to get into shape.

In Jesue name...

Ron

Thank you for your prayers ,as my sleep is not as restful as I would like it to be,I have gotten into a habit of staying up later than I should and I need to stop doing that.

I'd rather just post it here because of the audience.

It's a condition mainly caused by being overweight that involves the cessation of breathing for long periods of time during sleep. People who suffer from this condition are tired all the time because they don't really sleep. Very loud snoring is usual and follows an apneic episode.

If you suspect that you suffer from this, ask your doc about getting a sleep study done. This is very important.

Speaking as one who has this condition, I can attest to the fact that it IS important.

As I recommended on another forum, and H1 has recommended above... talk to your doctor about your symptoms and ask him is a sleep study is in order.

Sleep apnea can kill you...

A sleep study saved my life... I was falling asleep at stoplights, at my desk at work, any time I was still for more than 5 minutes, I was close to passing out form exhaustion.

A sleep study confirmed what I already had suspected, that I had sleep apnea... and as a result of the study, the doctor got me some relief.

Thank you so much for adding to what I said. I don't live with it and never have, so your input is needed and appreciated.

Is the C or Bipap working for you?

Cpap. Yes, ma'am. It's made a world of difference

My adopted dad was narcoleptic for years, even to the point of eventually having his DL permanently revoked due to having several accidents. Luckily, they were all single vehicle accidents......except for the last one. He almost killed a woman that he hit head on when on his way to work one morning.

He was asleep, and like a drunk, he was uninjured even though the engine of his truck was pretty much in his lap.

Several years ago, he got a Cpap and it cured his narcolepsy. The revocation against his DL was lifted and he's been driving since about 2002. However, he cannot work due to other health problems, some of them perhaps resulting from sleep apnea.

I'm glad you didn't wait until it was too late to do something, Ron.

Me too.

I was more scared I was going to hurt my wife or someone else if I fell asleep at the wrong time than concerned about hurting myself...

Doc told me surgery was an option, but said God 'blessed' me with one of the biggest tongues he'd ever seen so any of the possible surgeries probably wouldn't help. Hence the cpap.

There are MANY different reasons for insomnia...I've been dealing with this for a couple of years now. Some people have trouble falling asleep, and some have trouble staying asleep. Mine has been a combination of both: I couldn't fall asleep until after midnight, but I would only sleep a couple of hours and wake up, then stay up the rest of the night. For me, my mind begins racing once I lie down.

Amazingly, my husband and I went on our first vacation last week....and I slept fine every single night. I'm starting to think my problem is stress. Working at the church seven days a week, nonstop, may be having a bigger effect on me than I realized.

I'm not sure if this helps any, but I sure hope you find the cause of your insomnia. I'll be praying!

There is a reason God told us to take a rest day. I recommend you take him up on the command.

But that's so much easier said than done. Our church has been going through a tough time, so my husband and I have taken on extra departments trying to help keep the ship afloat.

We both work in our church's school Monday through Friday, he is the music director and I play keyboard, so we're working on new music in the evenings plus a midweek choir practice, not counting midweek service. On Saturdays there's always stuff going on and because we are department heads we are expected to be there (if nothing is scheduled, we're in our offices catching up on work that didn't get done during the week), and Sundays are crazy: choir practice at 9:00 am, Sunday morning service, back to church anywhere from 4:30 on for musicians practice, special groups, etc., then Sunday evening service. This is not including any special services, dramas, musicals, etc. My husband just gave up the job of youth pastor because there just wasn't enough hours in the day to do those kids justice.

Not trying to be sarcastic, it's a legitimate question: what day are we supposed to take to rest? It's hard enough trying to find time to get on AFF! :D

That's up to you... just telling you that you need to rest.

You have to make time. 'When' is your decision.

It won't help your church or your family if you run yourself into the ground and get horribly sick because of it.

It's your life... do as you please with it.

Thanks for those words of wisdom....every now and then we over-achievers need someone to put things in perspective. :)
