No, I didn't know there was one. Where is it? I was in an antique store and bought a Henry Mancini sheet music (theme song from Romeo and Juliet) piece my mother used to have. I just called her to tell her about it. :thumbsup

It's a lot of fun. Take a hay ride to the field, pick out a tree, cut it down (they provide saws), hawl it back on another hay ride, and buy it. They shake them and wrap them in netting. Fresh cut trees! Sweet!

Not sure, but I think the prices are as good or better than the pre-cut lots, but I haven't priced those in a long time. E.g. a 7-footer is $42.

Oh, and they give you hot chocolate and candy canes! And they sell Elgin hot sausage wraps n stuff! Mmmmm. Hope it's a really cold day. That's the best tree cutting weather.

I think they have some live trees in pots, too. We're thinking of getting one this year, and planting it in the front yard.

We used to drive to San Antonio, when I was a child, to pick out a tree. We didn't go to a tree farm, but it was still fun. We had to have a 12 foot tree. My mother wanted it to be perfect. Not fun putting each icicle on one at a time, but when it was finished it was worth it.

She made the mountains with the villages and, of course, the cave for the nativity scene. My sisters and I would stand on the 12 foot ladder and sing. We took turns putting Baby Jesus in his crib and then burst into tears. Oh the drama! :toofunny

Still working on mine. Had to take the lights off and start over. Blew a fuse, tried to change it and bent the metal inside, drove to town, picked up two more strands, came home, found the wires were "white", drove back to the store, found the last two that were "green wires", left the tree, went out of town, came home yesterday evening and stayed up until 1:30 last night putting up my lights!!! :toofunny

Years ago I fellowshipped with an organization called The Church of Jesus Christ Pentecostal Faith. Later I was licensed by them for a year or two. I dropped out of that organization when we started going to an ALJC church in 1963 or 64 or thereabout.

The Presiding Bishop was very much against Christmas trees. One pastor and his family lived in Corbin, KY. The Dad was a pastor and one son was also a preacher with that group. One year the son decided he was going to go ahead and have a Christmas tree. So, as the custom was there they went out into the woods, cut a tree, and brought it home. The Dad railed on about them being a bunch of heathens (he probably pronounced it 'heatherns') and going against the Word. The son, who was also a preacher, was able to justify what they had done. He said, "We didn't disobey the Word. The Bible says, 'one cutteth a tree out of the forest.' Just one person didn't go cut it. A whole bunch of us went out there together."

I am really looking forward to the white and blue one. I love the blue lights and ornaments at Christmas time. I think it was because when I was little, 3 yrs old, we had a blue tree that year. It was the last tree my father allowed my mother to put up. My brother had died that fall in a car accident and I think he decided anything fun or enjoyable was a sin because of my brothers death. So we went cold turkey, no trees, no tv, no jewelry, no sports, no shorts, no breathing, no....... =)

Don't cry margie. That was 40 yrs ago. WOW it just dawned on me how long ago that was.

Well lets just say he lived but I think my brothers death really affected him till the day he died a year and a half ago. My brother was 23 when he died and my dad would have been 42. I don't think he was ever the same and I do not think he ever realized it was my brothers death that started his slow down hill slide. My mother is still alive but has alzheimer's. I know that up to a few years ago if you talked much about my brother she would start to cry thinking about him. Never messed with her head though like it did with my dad.

Love seeing all the trees- I don't put a tree- too lazy! I usually decorate our mantle and tables with all things Christmas! We are going to be out of town much of Dec. so I am going to scale back the decorations. Maybe. When I start to drag out the boxes I may just get carried away. I do a lovely nativity scene- I will post it when I finish it, next week.

NO FAIR!

I shouldn't harp, last year I didn't put a pic of my tree on here. This year I'm rethinking my tree decor. I might try something I read in a magazine. Christmas themed toys, stuffed snowmen etc, rather than bulbs that my one year old can break.

There are plenty of years ahead to go back to the fancy tree. I love fancy trees though. So more pics everyone!!!

I didn't post mine last year because, somehow, I didn't string the lights very well and you could majorly see the wiring. This year is a little better - a little. I get way too impatient with it. BTW, it's ok to laugh, if you're inclined! We thought it was pretty funny. Brought some garland from home, found this tree in the room, so we threw it on. Don't think we even had any lights. Bought some candy canes for it, too.

I was going to tell you that on the other thread - that they don't turn out very well, in many cases.

If you have a disposable camera, you can take them and have Walmart put them on a Disc for around $3. Then you can download that into photobucket.

I took some pictures the other day, I will see if I can upload them tonight.

My Christmas tree is definintely more about tradition that aesthetics. When my Dad & Step Mom got engaged, she started a tradition where she gave us each an ornament in our stocking every year. (Starting Christmas '80), she diligently marked them all, and when we were adults, she passed them on to us. (She still gives us one every year). In addition to that, I have ones that I made as a child, and a few that are older than I am.

I also have this Santa Claus musical statue. It was my Parents first Christmas decoration that they bought their first Christmas together. The base is the wind up for the music part and it spins as it plays. It is totally tacky! But I love it anyway. :christmasfire

I did. Sorry. But the large bird is only feathers...not a real stuffed one. And I have real birds and their feathers are always fallin off them NATURALLY!

What is the differance if we give a stuffed Teddy Bear to our kids?

I also have a smaller one only made of pearls (very old) with a few plumes.

I don't like real dead animals layin around either for display. But they are there. But somethings can be takin too far by PETA. If I lived off the land and hunted, say...moose; I would use the hide for clothing (because it will keep me warm in the winter because I live in Siberia!!) and I would use the food to eat because I live off the land and not the malls and grocery stores............for example.......just sayin......

Lol - - yep, not sure where I got the bird, but I cannot do a theme tree because each ornament has a meaning. We use to cut our trees down at a tree farm in St. Louis and each year we'd get a dated ornament and every year I put them on - the memories come back!

Thanks Renda for posting the pictures - I just wanted to show my pared down decorations this year. I am too lazy to put up a tree - so the metal tree- a hold over from living in a much smaller space has to do the job. I love the nativity scene.

It was sooooo much fun! One of the judges was a doctor and he was all about bribes so we got tons of goodies - - lol! He messed with them and told them that we'd take bribes until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow in an email. So, I responded, "well....I'm just saying" and posted a picture of a 2009 Infinite convertible. I heard one group was going to go out tonight and find a Matchbox Infinite to give me - - lol!!!

We've already picked the winner, but they don't know it.

The aisle that won was Santa's Workshop - - they covered supply cabinets to look like giant presents - - had TONS of old timey toys everywhere - - they had one of the cubes set up with all our instruments like they were used to make the toys - - it was great!!!

that sounds like fun Renda... our office loves to decorate cubes too... the santa workshop sounds awesome.... did you get pics?

The sides of our cubes are covered in wrapping papers...everybody buys the paper they like and cover the sides to look like presents and then I end up making the bows for the "packages"

All the decorating makes it more fun doesn't it? lol We used to do this for about a week after Thanksgiving, it took up so much time, but what fun...then we got a new President who didn't think it was necessary... so we now have a block of 4 hours the Monday after Thanksgiving to get the decorating out of the way.

I was a judge today at work - - our Clinical Dept decorated their aisle (sets of cubicles) - there were five different aisles we had to judge!

How creative. I would love to see a pic of it. I bet there was a lot of creative works to choose from. :)

I still don't have my presents purchased. Well, one for my husband. I never put his out because he picks up the box, holds it, shakes it and tells you what is in it - and he is always right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arghhhhhh!!! He thinks he is so funny and clever - I want to clobber him!! The kids go, "DAD!!!!!!!" :toofunny

What is it with husbands?!? Mine does the same thing. And, I found out he told my two oldest kids what their big present was this year. When I asked why, he said he wanted to be sure they would like it. I told him it was a little late because that's what they are getting. Is it a lie to tell him that I got our daughter a fur coat when I really got her a pair of boots? I did that last year and he told her, "you are getting something with fur on it." :gift:gift
