I have two User accounts on my laptop...my desktop is sooooooo slow, but the other Username desktop is FAST. I run Norton, and keep it free from bugs and such...do I need to do something else to 'clean up' my desktop so that it will run faster?? When I log on, my desktop comes up in 'squares', very sporadic and slothful- drives me NUTS....
Thanks!!
get SpyBot and run it through your system.

Also, go into Internet Options and delete your cookies and temporary Internet files.

If spybot S&D doesn't do a lot try AVG http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1/

What anti virus would you recommend to use in their place?

That's the truth. I have ghost for our church PC to back up the main HD and it installed all kinds of other goodies I am sure are not neede. Of course they told me they are all important.l
I use Zonelabs zonealarm with virus on that pc and I use Avast free version, Spybot, adaware and Zonealarm pro with spyware scanning...as you can see I rarely get spyware :-)
Are there better solutions for backup? I backup to a second internal HD that is bisected...one is for backup and the other I had hoped to store our recordings on but the tech guys never do that. I am constantly having to defrag the main HD

He mentioned AVG, that's an anti-virus program. They have a paid and a free version. You can also try Avast.
What I do is I use Avast and then every now and then I do an online scan somewhere like pandasoft or some other free online scan
