I tried following the instructions.... user cp, edit avatar, but it doesn't give me the option to use a custom avatar. It stays stuck on the 'no avatar' button. what do I dooooooo:anonymous :)

Try it now. Your account was still unregistered because you did not respond to the confirmation email. This was either missed or perhaps it is in your spam folder.

I changed you to registered so maybe that will do the trick
