We have one of the Best Bass Fisheries in the US...

We caught them a few miles from my house... I was going to take my
boat out today but we had 25-35 mile a hour winds... So there was no going out there... we just fished from the Docks at a local marina..

I fished my first tourny.. a month or so ago...We fished our first one for this season last saturday on Lake Fork here in East Texas with 40 mph winds....109 teams entered - 82 of US blanked.... it was a slot lake - could not touch 16 or had to be over 24.... only one team had a limit and 5lbs would have gotten ya 1K. Tough day everything that we caught was in the slot.

Fish our next one on March 10 - hope to do better - we are back on Bob Sandlin where we won - but that does not mean we will again.

We are fishing hot shot this year instead of a circuit, my partner is fishing some big tourn. this year with the pros.

I did latch on to this one while we were prefishing one day - not all that big as a striper goes, but he was fun getting in at 11lb +.

It's still a little cold for camping here. We are planning on going out to Glenn Shoals Lake in early April. My wife has already been organizing the gear in the camper. Yippee!!!! Spring's almost here!

That's a lake with a rule that everything in a certain size range has to put back.

Rev DWW got it right. We were on Lake Fork - famous for Big Bass.

If it touches 16 it has to go back and it has to be OVER 24, we could have one each over 24 and a limit of 5 for that tourn.

TOmorrow the fish have to be over 14 and no slot....

Info needed is depth, jigs, bait, and such.

Wax worms are good bait, minnows are better. Fish a foot or so off the bottom to start and if you don't get any bites change your depth.

We went last Saturday as it was the last day we could drive on the lake. The ice was about 28 inches thick and there was about 6 inches of snow on top of that. We drilled holes but discovered that we were on a seaweed bed....the hole I had was good, but nothing was biting. We had wax worms and minnows. We had jigs of all colors. We switched about three of four times each.

LR went about 50 feet away to holes that were dug previously and caught a crappie! He went back, as he was only about 4 inches long...LOL!

We were out there for about six hours, and all I caught was a sunburn.

We are going fishing in about two weeks as the ice is almost melted now.

Any further advice is welcomed, however, as we are hoping to get an ice shack for next year.

We are going out there Sat afternoon and staying until Sunday afternoon. It has two sets of bunkbeds, a sofa and a chair, a dining table with chairs, a stove that works with propane for cooking, and an iron stove for heat, which we won't need!

It's a pretty nice place. No water hookup and no electricity, but that's ok too. We are going to have lots of fun!!

I don't like fish at all. I love to catch it and am pretty good, except I don't like to touch the fish with my hands so I have a hand towel or a large handkechief to hold on to them, yucky, yucky!

Anyway, a couple of years ago, we had a family come over and go fishing on our pond, and they were out there for about 3 hours and I went outside and they had only caught like 5 fish. Last Sunday night, LR and I caught two bass and ten bluegill/sunnys.

Sturgeon are here spawning and therefore off limits (as if I could drag one of those in!!), so walleyes aren't about at the present. There are black and red suckers, as well as bullheads, but the bluegill are great tasting too!

Of course, she outfished me. I caught a mere 9 fish, but threw back four of them. She caught 23 fish, but threw back 5. We caught them all in just under 3 hours. :D Here is what we brought home.......23 altogether.

Thanks. We had lots of fun. LR is a fish magnet though. She didn't like me infringing on her fishing spot, but after she caught three fish in less than ten minutes and I hadn't even gotten a bite, I went to her spot.....LOL!

Randy told me trout were hard to clean. Are these much different than those he catches out in California?

I know they are saltwater fish, but they are still the trout family.

These trout have scales and were not hard to clean at all. I filleted a couple and then the rest I just gutted and cut off the heads. Fresh water trout do not have scales as far as I know and are very slimy.

I didn't catch them all, a couple of the other guys caught a few. All caught from the shore no less. I caught 5 or 6 of the reds and 3 of the specs.

I hadn't used that.I use live shrimp.I told my hubby it reminds me of the
movie "Sharks." Remember when the shrimp begged for their lives.They have
