Louie Giglio launched a church there recently.

Ravi Zacharias is headquartered there.

What is your flavor? Non-Denom, Baptiscostal, UPCI/WPF, AMF/Indp OP, etc?

So West Atlanta UPC is my best choice? Is that the only one?

Atlanta West is a good church.
If you can get there on Sunday and the choir is singing, that is a treat.
Stone Mountain UPC is a good church to visit, also. They are very friendly.
First Pentecostal Church in Buford would be my choice, but that's because I attended there for about 9-10 years. They are independent, I believe, but more aligned with WPF.
I wouldn't even mind visiting Atlanta Bishop's church, but I do not remember the name!

It depends on where you will be in the city. If you are looking for a balanced UPC with a great choir and music, I would recommend Atlanta West Pentecostal Church in Lithia Springs. Pastor Johns is a great man & a great Pastor/Teacher and If I were UPC - this is where I would attend. It is about 30-40 minutes West of Atlanta just off I-20. If you are looking for more Conservative (WPF I think) - First Pentecostal Church of Buford is about 40 minutes North East of ATL off I-985. Pastor Tim Copeland is a Classical Pentecostal/Apostolic Preacher and is very fervent and passionate about what he believes.
Two GREAT Independent Apostolic Churches - Harvest Time Apostolic Ministries with Bishop Joel Trout in Riverdale, about 15-20 mins south of ATL, near the airport off I-75 S.
Connect Point Christian Center with Bishop Don Abernathy/Pastor Mark Abernathy is on Highway 124 - north of I-20 in Snellville, GA.
There is every kind of church with every kind of flavor in or near Metro Atlanta.
I recommend our home church in Gainesville, GA - 40-50 minutes North of ATL off I-985, Free Chapel with Pastor Jentezen Franklin. You must be there at least 30 minutes early to get a decent parking place or a seat and we seat 3300 and it is packed at 9 & 11 AM and Wednesdays at 7 PM. (We are expanding to 6000 seats as almost 20,000 come through our two Gainesville Campuses on Sundays).
On most Sundays, I will be ministering at TRUE LIFE CHURCH in Ball Ground, GA - 40 minutes N on I-75 to I-575.
I hope you enjoy a great worship experience when you visit our great city!

AB,

Tell us more about "Connect Point Christian Center" pastored by the Abernathy's. Their names seem familiar. Were they UPC? What are their churches like? Where do they fit in the spectrum of Pentecost.

AB,

They are strong Conservative Apostolics and have always been independent. Bishop Don Abernathy pastored in California years ago and after a vision, moved his entire congregation of several hundred to Atlanta, GA.. It is a shouting, dancing, running the aisles, Apostolic Church. They were never UPC. They have a beautiful state of the arts contemporary building and were formally in Stone Mountain for years and moved to Snellville and built this new facility. They do fellowship with some UPC and other independent churches.
They are great people and most of the UPC old heads have always been intimidated by him as he ministers prophetically and has a lot of the Gifts of the Spirit manifest in the services. I was there this past Wednesday night and Bishop was walking the aisles and prophesying over many during the service. Most of the men that come to minister there are used greatly in the Gifts of the Spirit! Great people, Great Church! They still lay hands on people and cast out devils and most guests there are filled with the Holy Ghost and...They baptize in the Name of Jesus Christ! (I knew SOMEBODY would ask! LOL)
OH...And they have a big STARBUCKS in their big lobby! Conservative but contemporary!

This was published in TIME magazine in 1968.

God is about to destroy Southern California for its sinfulness. Driven by this conviction, nearly 600 members of half a dozen pentecostal churches in the Golden State are pulling up stakes and getting out before the holocaust.

The inspiration for the exodus comes from the Rev. Donald Abernathy of the Apostolic Gospel Church of Bell Gardens, a Los Angeles suburb. Last spring he had a series of visions that convinced him that the Los Angeles area would soon be torn apart by an earthquake. In his graphic revelations, Abernathy said, "buildings crumbled, freeways buckled, water gushed up from cracks in the ground and volcanoes erupted in the nearby mountains. Then the destruction moved north toward San Francisco." In two subsequent visions, Abernathy saw an airplane ticket stamped with the word "Atlanta." Taking this as divine direction, he led 180 members of his congregation on a migration to Atlanta last month. They traveled not by airplane, however, but in cars with trailers.

Before leaving California, Abernathy repeated his vision to several other pentecostal congregations. Most of them, too, have decided to move. Last month more than 100 members of a church in Avenal, 50 miles southwest of Fresno, emigrated to Kennett, Mo. A 50-member congregation in Porterville transferred to Independence, Mo. One hundred members of a church in Lompoc also trekked to Georgia. The Rev. Robert Theobold, pastor of the Friendly Bible Apostolic Church at Port Hueneme, plans to resettle his congregation of 90 men, women and children in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Theobold, who claims to have received mystical confirmation of Abernathy's vision, believes that the earthquakes "will leave Southern California like Sodom and Gomorrah before the end of 1970." Theobold says that his flock will leave before Oct. 12, "the deadline given me by God for departure."

While there are personal hardships involved, members of the emigrating churches are convinced that they are obeying God's will in leaving their homes and jobs. They also believe that Southern California has only itself to blame for the imminent disaster. Pastor Theobold despairingly cites "the amount of wickedness here: Hollywood, big business, prosperity, homosexuality, topless places." If the horrible event happens, seismologists will not be surprised. They have repeatedly warned that, because of the stresses along the San Andreas fault extending through the state, California is overdue for a disastrous earthquake.

Apostolic Gospel Church of Jesus Christ is a church in the Oneness Pentecostalism movement that was founded in Bell Gardens, California in 1963 by Donald Abernathy.

By 1968, five congregations existed in Abernathy's church in the Los Angeles region of southern California. In 1968, Abernathy reported a series of visions whereby it was shown to him that the west coast of North America would be devastated by a massive earthquake. After one of the pastors in the church reported a confirmatory vision, the church decided to relocate. Abernathy took one congregation to Atlanta, Georgia, while others went to Kennett, Missouri, Independence, Missouri, and Murfreesboro, Tennessee.[1]

Adherents of the Apostolic Gospel Church of Jesus Christ believe in faith healing and do not approve of the use of medicine or physicians. Members are pacifists and there is a strict dress and grooming code for men and women.[1]

The church is led by bishops and deacons and includes in its hierarchy prophets, apostles, evangelists, and teachers.

From AB: The church was renamed NEW LIFE ASSEMBLY by Bishop Don Abernathy after his arrival in Stone Mountain, GA. in 1968. With Pastor Mark Abernathy now as the Senior Pastor the church has more of a community emphasis and is an International Church with many nations represented. It was renamed and branded Connect Point Christian Center in 2010. Connect Point is a multi-cultural Contemporary Worship Experience.

Atlanta Bishop, is Atlanta on the list of distruction too? Homosexuality and immorality is rampid there. I pray that deliverance will come there. I know of a number of churches that call themselves "affirming churches". In other words, they accept homosexuality as a practice that is accepted by Gods One church has an openly gay pastor with a "first gentleman" and several openly gay clergy. I become very concerned when I think about these churches.

Bishop, How do they deal with the fact that all of their prophesy did not come to pass as prophesied? Is it ever discussed? Do they have an explanation? Just wonderin'

One of those churches that left CA to avoid it's desruction is located right down the road from me about three or four miles. That original pastor is not there of course. I understand it is a serpent seed doctrine church.

AB, what does Abernathy say about CA still being there 43 years after he prophesied it was bout to be destroyed? Oops? God changed his mind? I had eaten too much Mexican food?

When I was in the ATL, we fellowshipped with the Abernathy's. They are good people, who are a curious mixture of the old and the new.
AtlantaBishop could probably clarify this more, but I do believe they used to teach some version of the serpent seed doctrine.

Well.. here goes! LOL
For one - the world is not destroyed and time has not ended and I do not think he put a date on the destruction of California. I do know that every time there is a major earthquake there, the news outlets call him or interview him concerning "Is this the one you were prophesying about?"
So...who knows if or when it will happen. I sure would not call a man a false prophet because the prophecy did not come to pass in MY time!

Some of the people that left CA did get caught up in the serpent seed doctrine and other strange doctrines including Bishop Don Abernathy's late brother - Nolan. Nolan was the father in law to Pastor Steve Abernathy and SA could tell us more about all that. You know you can't help what your brother is or what he teaches - but somewhere along the line - people will get it all mixed up and say it was you.
I don't know the whole story but I do know that all of them have had great respect for William Branham and regarded him as a great prophet as MANY people have that also distanced themselves from the extreme teachings of WB and other strange things he taught.

I do know that Bishop Abernathy has sent numerous letters refuting the serpent seed doctrine and that he did NOT believe it and did not teach it.
I have known him and preached for him well over 20 years and never heard anything taught or even discussed about it there. I do know the UPC guys in GA always brought it up and disrespected him and told that he did preach it, but he denied that he believed or preached such a thing.
They hated him because he has always been very prophetic and a revivalist and I have heard board members in GA bring great disrespect to Bishop Abernathy because he preached Miracles, Signs,Wonders and the Gifts of the Holy Ghost so much.
