In the grand tradition of "Dear Rhoni," I am hanging out my shingle and am open for business.

If you are suffering and need a spiritual prescription, or perhaps a good check up, we accept walk-ins, and most kinds of insurance.

No competition.

My practice deals with a totally different class of patient, and totally different ailments, from a diametrically opposite perspective.

A well-known UPC preacher who doesn't know me told me recently that I am carrying a heavy load...burdened. Part of my burden is for the lost world and the awesome task set before us to reach them before He returns. Of course there are other things associated with church leadership (not a pastor)and personal things. What say ye doc?

You had to go and get serious on me...

Well, here you are:

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Mat 11:30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light

Weariness associated with a burden is only remedied by drawing closer to Jesus.

Proximity is the issue.

"Come unto me," He says, and rest will be yours.

Remember that only Jesus is the Saviour--not us.

I don't know that the 'young doctor' will advise, but I know what I did many years ago when this was an issue each week...

I had three toddlers underfoot, and was constantly having to beg for my trash to be taken out- until it would pile up. Then I would load the curb with it myself...*SIGH* One day I went on strike. It was a stinky mess...never have fought that battle again, it's been over 20 years ago...praise Jesus for the little blessings He sends our way...LOL

Carp,

This is a subject worthy of a book, not a post, and it has stymied smarter people than I am for sure.

Prayer can and often does change the mind of the supplicant.

As to changeing the mind of God?

I could give you Scripture that would seem to support a couple of different views, to be honest.

There are things about the mind of God that will forever be beyond our comprehension on this side of the Milky Way.

Speaking prophetically of the destruction of Jerusalem, Jesus said, "Pray that your flight be not in winter..."

The destruction of Jerusalem was set in stone. It was going to happen. But apparently the Lord was willing to change the timing of it to a more advantageous season if His people availed themselves of the opportunity to pray.

the most compelling reason to pray is not because of the expected result as much as because we are instructed to pray by the Word, and because communion with my Saviour is an awesome privilege in and of itself, for its own sake.

I may revisit the subject more later.

I have seen enough miracles wrought through prayer that I will ever be a believer.

Weeelllll...the first story is NOT pretty, let me tell ya. LOL I got pregnant early in our marriage, and was deathly sick...the toilet seat had been a battle from day 1. I got the flu, on top of constant 'morning sickness', and was running to the bathroom all hours of the night...well,one night, I couldn't take the time to turn on the light- it was coming out both ends...I threw up in the sink, and sat down on the toilet- and the seat was NOT down. :sad
Needless to say- the rest of the night was NOT real loving. He got up, and pulled me out of the toilet, puke and all, and then he cleaned up the bathroom...in 24 years, I have never had to put the seat down...:killinme

This story is less exciting than the first...

With me being so sick, It was all I could do to keep my house clean and laundry done when we forst were married. My washer was in the basement, and I was out of brrath, by the time I got all of his clothes picked up off the floor and sorted and taken DOWN the stairs...anyhow, one day I decided that I had had my last fight about him finding the hamper...

I would clean the house, but leave his things right where they were. AFter about 4-5 days, my house looked like the local Goodwill stock room. He came in, looked around, and said,"The house is pretty messy, you need some help cleaning?" I just chuckled, as I watched him pick up a week's worth of mess...as he realized the house was clean, except for HIS stuff, he made a decision to pick up after himself...he's better at it than I am, to this day.

Now, lest you all think I am some lunatic that doesn't respect her husband, let me tell ya- that is faaar from truth. Before we had three children one after another, I would iron his t-shirts. LOL I didn't mind ONE BIT picking up after him, before I got so sick...after all, I was home all day, and he worked hard. But, after the girls came along, it was imperative that everyone 'pull their weight' so-to-speak. He helped me SO much when my girls were small. I am spoiled rotten!!! Even now, I rarely have to vacuum, and he helps me so much...he's one in a million, and I am blessed to have had him for 26 years.

Dear Dr.

Do you believe that answered and unanswered prayer is a result of the presence and lack of faith (respectively) on behalf of the person doing the praying?

To what extent should a person doing the praying not expect or to avoid having his faith damaged through unanswered prayer, for example for a sick child or for protection of a loved one that is not there?

I know all in his will, but it seems difficult to reconcile at times that answered prayer gives glory to God and unanswered prayer damages or gives faith a shot right in the solar plexus.

If God has his will and is two steps ahead of us, it would seem that prayer might be irrelevant because what is going to happen is going to happen and besides, God already did enough for us...asking for stuff seems pretty trivial.

Just stuff I think about while driving around town...praying. :D
