News from Free Chapel and Pastor Jentezen Franklin in Gainesville, GA.
Pastor Franklin announced that he was assuming the pastorate of a church (Jamboree Worship Center Church of God) in Irvine, California and was going to pastor both churches. He said several staff members from FREE CHAPEL - Gainesville will move to California and take care of the church and do the Sunday morning services. JF will preach at in Gainesville at 9 & 11 AM and leave on his jet at 3:00 PM and have Sunday night Service at 6:00 PM at the new FREE CHAPLE OC (Orange County) and possibly Tuesday nights and back to Gainesville for Wednesday night service.
He said he is not in anyway going to move to CA - but he feels this is his destiny and he will fulfil it!
He said - All the bills are paid here and this is NO CHALLENGE at all for us so - I need a challenge. He said - I am CRAZY and I need a Challenge and this is it. He will be on TBN this Tuesday night and make the national announcement then.
He is also adding 2000 new seats to the 3700 seat sanctuary and new offices and a 500 seat Youth auditorium at a cost of $30 million.
The people gladly recieved his word.
I have heard so much about him but never seen him. I understand he has a TV program and I would assume it is on TBN. Can you tell me when it airs? It is just him speaking or do they show music also? What is their music like?

JF was raised COG and his father was COG - His whole family was COG and he was the TOP COG evangelist when he took this small Congregational Holiness Church in Gainesville, GA after the death of their pastor. He surrendered his COG licence and is credentiled with the CH. Free Chapel is an over 50 year old CH Congregaton - it is NOT COG and is NOT independent.
The Church - Free Chapel Worship Center is IN a small pentecostal denomination - The Congregational Holiness Church. FCWC was founded as a CH church and will always be a CH church. http://www.chchurch.com/
This is from the Free Chapel web site:
This is a brief history of Free Chapel Worship Center.
our history
1953 J.C. (Jake) Norris began a new work in the Lord. In early July he and 10 - 15 other believers rented space in a skating rink on Atlanta Highway in Gainesville, Georgia. The church remained at this location for approximately two years.
1955 With a membership of approximately 35, a decision was made to build a church building. With mostly volunteers, comprised of members and non-members, a building was erected on Keith Circle in Gainesville. The church remained at this location for approximately 15 years.
During this period, there were several pastors: Louis Bragg, Walter Smith, Ben Tapp, and Blanche Lancaster, who served in the interim until Roy Wellborn was chosen as pastor.
1970 On Mother's Day, the first service was held in a new facility built on Brown's Bridge Road in Gainesville. The church grew to a membership of approximately 250 and remained in this location for approximately 20 years.
1989 Jentezen Franklin was selected senior pastor to succeed Pastor Wellborn.
1992 The church moved to McEver Road in Gainesville. Here the congregation has grown from 300 to over 5,000.
1996 Property was purchased across McEver Road for expansion.
1999 154 acres was purchased on McEver road for expansion.
2002 Ground Breaking Ceremony at the new property.
2004 (September) - Moved in to new worship facility debt free - 3700 seats.

I recently saw him teaching on TBN and he was using a tape measure and talking about putting limits on God. I started laughing b/c he must have bought some BOTT DVDs and saw Jeff Arnold's message from several years ago! BTW I like JF---he seems to be the real deal. If you close your eyes and listen to him speak he sounds just like AM.

I have heard of spreading oneself thin but this is really thin!
Not to mention the expense of Jet fuel, pilots, etc to fly back and forth from the West coast 52 weeks per year.
I have heard a lot of good things about this guy but when I hear stories like this it makes me think someone is too caught up in thinking they are the only one God can use, etc.
I have decided it is almost impossible for these really successful ministries to avoid problems with ego.
Surely out of 300 million people in America there is a good pastor who can devote 100% of his time to that church in California and not spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in jet fuel.

I agree. It can be done successfully if it's only temporary. But a pator cannot give 100% to two houses. Eventually a choice has to be made because it's like having a wife and a girlfriend at the same time. They both get jealous and a choice has to be made.

I did a Google Video search for Jentezen Franklin and only 2 videos come up. That is amazing. And both of those videos are advertisements of something he was going to speak at.
So I went to his website where they have 24/7 streaming video. But I can't see it unless I sign up for a Faith Pass.
This guy is starting to remind me of Clint Brown. He seems to have pretty tight controls on his product. If he is on TBN regularly etc and is so good one would think that SOMEBODY would have posted a video of one of his services.

I can assure you that Jentezen Franklin is the real deal. He pastors Free Chapel Worship Center in Gainesville, Georgia and has well over 8,000 come through the doors every Sunday.
He is also married and has 5 children. He has a jet that will get him from Gainesville to Orange County, CA - he says in 3 hours. So he will leave at 3 PM EST and get there at 3 PM and preach at 6 PM on Sunday nights in CA.
The church he is taking in California seats over 1000 and is appraised at $50 M and owes 5.5 M and has less that 200 people there.
He has the same style as Anthony Mangun and is a great man. The Tenney's were just there - preaching on Pentecost Sunday and many Hundreds were filled with the Holy Ghost. Free Chapel LOVES Bishop & Sister Tenney.
JF has books, tapes, videos, CDs, DVD's and I have no clue why you cannot find them. He is the most popular speaker on TBN at this time and is in demand around the world and speaks almost every night of the week to crowds of thousands.

Like I said - Jentezen is the most popular speaker on TBN at this time. His program is rated the number one program on TBN.
He has a new book being released tomorrow and it will make him millions. His staff is very protective of him and yes - he does keep the products close to him as not to lose revenue. He is a very smart businessman!
His wife (looks like a fashion model) is also a building contractor and builds million dollar homes around the lake in Gainesville. They are very secure financially and live very well.
He is also a giver. They have their own missionaries and missions programs and give millions every year to missions. I have seen him give checks of $50,000 to missionaries. He is a blessed man and will make tremendous sacrifices to pastor both churches. We love him and appreciate him very much.

AtlantaBishop,
I am not saying that JF is not the real deal. What I am saying is that there is a pattern over the last 20 years or so in America involving these mega ministries.
Extremely devoted and talented people experience mega success and it is hard to keep in context.
Pretty soon the ministry is treated as a Corporation and justifications are made for anything that is desired to happen.
I remember when Jim Bakker and other major TV ministers justified their enormous salaries and perks by hiring corporate consultants to rubber stamp it by saying it was comparable to what a CEO would be compensated in the Corporate world if he ran a company bringing in the same tens or hundreds of millions of dollars annually.
I am not one of those folks who thinks a pastor should not have a decent living but I am just saying that this level of success and adoration that goes with it is corruptive within itself and very few men or women can handle it.
If I remember correctly most private jets run about $4000 per hour to operate and probably more now with fuel so expensive.
If it is three hours there and three hours back that is six hours per round trip or $24,000 per week. If JF takes two weeks off per year for vacation then 50 times he will be spending $24,000 just to pastor two churches on two opposite ends of the country. If my TN math is correct that is $1.2 million dollars that could have been spent much better in my humble opinon.
How about a million dollars to mentor young preachers so there will be plenty in the future and one won't have to spend a million dollars a year flying back and forth across the country to pastor two churches!

The math is simple he is going to make millions from out there in California. So the measly 1.2 million to go back and forth is chump change.

You got that right, ABishop. He is very similar to AM. Infact, if anyone is interested you can go on the StreamingFaith site or JentesenFranklin.org and see some messages that he have take the titles from AM and TFT.
One Sunday afternoon I was watching JF on TBN or one of the other channels and he told that how he sits on the board for Tommy Tenney's ministry. At one of the board meetings Tommy took him to the POA and JF met Sis. Vesta and Tommy asked JF if he minded if VM prayed for him. JF said he did not mind and VM prayed and JF said he has never felt such a power on a women of God. That she is such a praying women and she was plain awesome. He said the HG hit him so hard that he had a hardtime regaining composure. This was all in the parking lot after VM time during the 24 hr prayer chain.

I just bought Jentezen Franklin's book "Right People, Right Place, Right Plan." Haven't read it yet, but I was pleasantly surprised to see TF Tenney mentioned in the front of the book. In small paragraph for acknowledgements or thanks, JF mentions Tommy Tenney, TF Tenney and Steve Munsey as being great mentors for him. (not exact statement, but to that effect. I'll post the exact quote later.)

You did not ask me but I will say that I admire him as a person but am not a fan of his screaming....er...preaching. Nor did I care for his dad's preaching before him.
That tremendous church was built from PRAYER not good preaching. I doubt there has been a church in the history of Oneness Pentecost that has consistently through the years prayed like POA.
Add to that prayer the competent management skills of first GA & Vesta and now Anthony and Mickey and that was a winning combination.
I have never for one second doubted AM's motives or sincerity.

To me...AM is the best preacher the UPC has. Not because he puts words together well, which he does, but because of his motives. There is not a greater soul winning preacher, IMO. I think that his passion for what and how he preaches is great. I do appreciate the ones that do not yell either. LH Hardwick, Bro. Goldsberry, etc. They are all great preachers.
I do think that there are alot of preachers that yell and Shockamoo and all the did was waist their voice and energy. I remember when I was a YP and was preaching that the "leaders" of that church told me I had to get wilder and louder. I never was monotone that I know of. I do not believe I was boring either. But I was told to get excited. I did, but I didn't Shockamoo.
Now on the point of prosperity by JF.....
I have watched him more than 100 times. He preaches prosperity, but not that God will make you rich. That is unbiblical. I have heard more messages about fasting, praying and reaching the lost than I have ever heard him preaching about money.
To say that he is preaching prosperity by itself, that is not true at all.

MM - Clarification above . . .
I completely disagree on AM's messages being "hype", Neckstadt. The man is the most sincere minister I've heard and watched preach. The tears, the emotion, the compassion, the love -- it's ~NOT~ hype. Not at all.
I know AM does preach on souls and evangelism every time I've heard him . . . but that's not wrong. He has a passion for that. Isn't that subject the kind of subject ministers should be preaching more? Win souls. Love souls. Reach for souls?
Anything but hype . . .

I did not throw his name out there.....
How about we just leave it not at context of their sermons.
I just do not enjoy their style.
AM is from LA not VA.
The context is important to the message though. I understand what you are saying though. There are people that I enjoy what they are saying not how they say it. There was a guy that I heard a few weeks ago. He preached ok, kept repeating everything though. The thing was that the harder he preached the more he sounded like Kermit the Frog. I kept waiting for him to say, "Piggy you must be baptized."
There are definately people I do not enjoy their style. AM happens to be one of my favs, but that is because I feel the passion of it. IMO.

Here's my opinion, since everyone else has thiers.
It's the foolishness of preaching thats saves. If a man gets excited and hyped, (as someone else here so elequently put it) then so be it. If someone gets saved by the foolish babblings of a preacher, then what difference does it make how he presents it? I personally don't care how someone presents thier sermon as long as someone gets saved. BTW, I enjoy preachers like Anthony Mangun and Jeff Arnold, my favorite Apostolic preacher is Norman Wagner.

The preaching of the cross is considered "foolish" to the unbeliever. To the believer, it is the power of God.
This has absolutely NOTHING to do with presentation!!!!
By the way great message by Bro Hardwick Sunday, huh? I saw it online. It was great. Do you know how many received the HG?
I did think it was a great Pentecost Sunday message. I don't know how many recevied the Holy Spirit baptism but at the 10:30 am service there were probably 15 people or more in the altar.

Actually I didn't. The point was: to the one who is hearing the sermon, and he becomes saved, it doesn't matter how ones style is as long as he gets saved. Do not read into what I'm saying Berk!

Thank you ever so kindly for your response. Which of the preachers did i mention that you think is bad? I didn't say anything about bad preaching. Btw, if one is called, what gives anyone the right to say he/she is preaching badly?

I hope you really don't believe your last statement / question there. Surely you do not believe that just because someone is "called" the quality of their preaching can never be called into question?
My dear Brother Kodak, preachers who are called are also human beings. Human beings have weak areas in their lives as well as strengths. They vary from person to person.
One preacher may have bad study habits and if he does not discipline himself will not spend enough time in the word in a strucured way to bring the word in the best way he can.
Another may have poor speaking skills and never do anything to get better. That is also wrong. We should be offering God our best and work on the areas where we are deficit in our lives.
Thank the Lord for Elders who do not share your view and are candid with young men of God when they need advise and constructive criticism on their preaching. The way you talk just by virtue of being "called" everything out of a preachers mouth is just perfect. (I don't really think you beleive that but I think you post these wild statements without thinking them through).

CC1, even when young preachers (who are called) preach badly, doesn't necessarily mean they are perfect. I never said that! Get real! Once again you and Berk are twisting what I'm saying for the purpose of arguing. If you are a preacher, I'm sure that even you have preached poorly in the beginning of your ministry, but who's to say that someones life wasn't touched or changed by what you've said? How do you know whether or not someone was saved today, by a sermon you preached years ago that wasn't so good?

CC1 and Bro Eastman,
How did this thread morph into the style of preaching of the "called?"
Just a question.
Since we are there already....
I think that they type of delivery is not as important as what is being said. I am very critical of preaching. I am not a good preacher myself. However I do critic sermons in order to make my style and delivery better. I do not do it out loud or to anyone else, except my wife and my friend Nate and Jaremy, and oh well never mind.
In all seriousness. I do like all different types and styles of preachers. The ones that Shockamoo keep us awake easier, but sometimes they do not have much to say.
Eastman, I am with you when you say that you like Bishop Wagner. That man can preach. CC1, I love Pastor Dan and Pastor Hardwick. These three men are as different as peanut butter and jelly. But they are all good.

Just so you understand, along with everyone else. I think there are good preachers that have different preaching styles that are meant to reach certain types of people. I do not expect everyone to like AM, NW, or even JA. These are just some of my favorites. I do like certain other preachers that are more laid back, but the ones with the so called hype, reach certain people more so than than the laid back preachers. I'm sure that it could be said the other way around as well.

I did see him on Daystar the day before and Marcus was talking about being in the Divine grip of God and Jentezen said somthing like, "like I am trying to do now." Sunday morning - 9 & 11 AM - Free Chapel Gainesville, GA - 6 PM - Free Chapel - Orange County, California! Man - that is just TOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!! He wants to do Sunday night and Tuesday nights in OC and then fly back and preach Wednesdays in Gainesville. He rarely preaches Wednesdays in Gainesville NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like JF. Been watching his messages on StreamingFaith.com the past couple days. I've been very impressed by what I've seen and heard from him. I'm glad to hear of the influence from apostolics and the kind things he's said about the Manguns and Tenneys from the UPC.
I'm sure he's taken counsel from other men concerning the California church, and I have no doubt he's prayed about it for a while.
I don't feel comfortable about it myself.
The reason being his family. I grew up in a pastors home, and it was no where near the size or popularity of JF's . . . even so, it was hard to have family time.
I bet it's hard enough for his wife and five children to share him with Free Chapel, TBN shows and conferences he travels around to preach at. But now to add another church . . . one that's hundreds of miles across the country.
The priority isn't right here.
It's, God. Family. Ministry.
Not, God. Ministry. Family.
I worry about the consequences of this decision, though I'm praying it works out and he and his family is blessed.

Hi all, I am new to this bulletin board. I just want to say something in regards to this news.
Pastor Franklin was my husband and I's pastor for almost two years. He actually married us, and I say that humbly. Pastor Franklin knows what God has called him to do, and there is nothing we can do stop what God has in store for Free Chapel. Like I said, I was a member there for almost two years. My husband and I were close to him and his family. Instead of dissing or allowing Satan to get involved in this, why don't you pray for this man of God for strength? I think what Pastor is doing is a great work of God. I believe Pastor Franklin knows what's best interest for him and his family.
He is a faithful man to his wife, and his wife - Cherise - supports him in this matter. I volunteered in the church bookstore for a year and a half. I also volunteered for the Foward 05 and 06 conferences. I know where his heart lies within all of this. I know a lot of people who would appreciate Pastor in doing this effort. There's nothing wrong with what he is doing. Especially if God has called him to do it. Pastor Franklin does NOTHING outside the will of God. He's a man of integrity and humility.
He wouldn't be doing this if it weren't God's will. Again, I really recommend everyone just to pray for him and his new endeavor. God has a true hand in this.
Blessings!

People THIS IS NOT NEW. A lot of other pastors have done this. Larry Lea had his church in Rockwall and commuted to Tulsa thru the week. I personally know a pastor who did Sunday mornings in NC and Sunday nights in FL and he flew commercial.
Bishop Morton is constantly back and forth between Atlanta, and New Orleans.
JF preached the best sermon I HAVE EVER HEARD on the priesthood of Jesus Christ. It would make a oneness beliver shout about the goodness of our Lord.
A few years ago he changed "style" and appeared to go after the youth generation. (I don't fight it, but he does not speak to me like he did at one time). If he can get some kids "prayed thru" and off drugs etc. MORE POWER TO HIM.
AND he is a major voice in teaching on FASTING. None of the TBN/charismatic crowd does that anymore. Any man that stirs people to Fasting and prayer cannot be all bad!!

Free Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia has over 10,000 come thru the doors on a regular Sunday in two services and then Pastor Franklin flies to California for a 6:00 PM service and has about 2,000 there. He is licensed with the Congregational Holiness Church as FC is CH in GA and then he is licensed with the Church of God with Free Chapel in Orange County,CA.
He was just elected to the Council of 18 of the Church of God this week. He has a large family and two incredible churches.
He is a personal friend and my son Nicholas works with him a lot. Nicholas told me last week - he and Pastor Franklin were playing basketball last week and he stepped on JF foot and like to have broke his ankle. He is a great man of prayer and fasting. I esteem him highly. He says the men that influence him the most are T.F. Tenney, Tommy Tenney and Steve Muncie.
Pastor Jentezen Franklin and Free Chapel is at www.Freechapeloc.org and www.FreeChapel.org . Two pretty incredible churches.
I hope that helps!

This is exactly what we do (minus the jet!).:ursofunny

I fail to see how one man can pastor a church on the east coast and one on the west coast. He may be preaching at both, but he is not really pastoring them.

The way men pastor Mega-churches is different than the way men pastor small churches. I am certainly pastoring differently than I ever have and with every increase - I am delegating more responsibility to others. Our church continues to be a Pastor led church and I can promise you - BOTH Free Chapels - Gainesville and Orange County are Pastor led!
Please don't judge him - He needed a challenge - He found one. He took the church in Gainesville from about 250 to over 10,000 and now the one on CA from around 150 - dissolved it - sent the people to other churches - started over and in just a few months - over 2,000 are there on Sunday.
You can say all you want - but he is doing SOMETHING RIGHT!

OK, but I respectfully disagree.
I am outside the mainstream of modern pastoral thinking, but I believe once a church congregation reaches the size where one man is unable to pastor it, a sister or daughter work should be established with a portion of the congregation moving to the daughter work.
Preferably in a another section of a large town, or a neighboring community.
AB, IMO, pastors should be pastors, not administrators of large corporations.
IMO, I said.

I am sorry it took me a while to answer your post, I finally made it last night, I nodd in total agreement with you about him. He came across as very spontaneous, true blue, peak performance type of dude. I loved the service. And that is true that he is very young in his approach of seeing life, even the worship band had a little bit of hard rock type of flavor to it, which I absolutely loved myself because I am a fan.

Again, I apologize for taking my time in answering, thank you so much for the welcome, but don't worry, whereever Jesus is Cherished, I usually feel right at home anyway:kittyhug... the service was incredible. Extremely contemporary (which I absolutely Loooove), sharpshooting and moving against the mean stream. the topic was about beating the odds and the base scripture (along with others) he used to back that was Judges 3:31 (http://bibleresources.bible.com/passagesearchresults2.php?passage1=Judges+3&book_id=7&version1=9&tp=21&c=3), it was extremely smart, he also had vid clips from "In the pursuite of Hapiness" with Will Smith, which is a movie that is based on a true story, the clip was cut through by a vid clips of him commenting on subject. This man is very inspiring to say the least. He honestly must be encouraged.

Oh Dear Looord, you must be near and dear to his heart for him to do that:preach:bow.
Glad that you share the same thoughts and feelings about him, cause he is one great dude!

Yes, indeed, he is. And he is no bs-er, what I admire about him is that he seems to walk his talk as in he fasts, ...Hey, did you ever have a chance to see "Fear Fighters"? one of his priceless sermons? in part 2 he is shown with Cherise in a cage with other people, swiming in the middle of at least 6 or 7 pretty meaty killer sharks!!! it was broadcast on TBN. Here's the link for anyone who has not seen it and is interested in doing so. That whole sermon, I think should be broadcasted everywhere, in high schools, colleges, churches, sinagogues, even in (or especially in I should say) secular meetings, everywhere. The shark part starts at about minute 5 or slightly after:

I am the one who should be thankful for being able to learn from him. He is an excellent teacher, educator as well as motivator.
