I walk several miles with Siegfried (doggie) every day and need comfortable walking shoes.

One time I bought a $15.00 pair of walking shoes from Walmart, they lasted close to 3 months, and were comfortable.

The next time, I had a bonus from work so I bought an expensive pair of walking shoes from Dillards, $65.00, they lasted about 3 months also.

We have been getting lots of rain, and I walk through grassy and wooded areas a lot so my feet are always wet, but still. There used to be such a thing as getting what you pay for, now I'm not so sure.

The only footwear I've found in the last 20 years that actually last a decent amount of time are Caterpillar boots (look just like Wellington work boots) and Belleville mil-spec water proof desert combat boots. Everything else, shoes, boots, etc, seems to fall apart within 1 year. Notable exception: pair of nice Justin boots that I don't wear often and certainly not for working.

Most everything nowadays seems inferior in design and construction.

I miss genuine high tops (Ruk brand was the best), genuine motorcycle boots (used to be able to get em for about 20-30 bucks at Sears and they were solid and would take years of abuse), and just something comfortable (every tennis shoe I've tried in last 15 years feel horrible, have to add inserts).

Remember these? Practically identical to a pair I wore from 8th grade up until 11th grade when they got eaten by a friend's Labrador. They literally stretched as I grew, second most comfortable pair of shoes I ever owned.

Yes, had a pair bought when Red Wing sent a sales truck to a job site years ago. I couldn't get used to them. Love my Belleville's, though. Comfy but tough as a tax collector. :)
