Just got word that Bishop James Kilgore preached today at a Conference in Mississippi. During that message he stated that he would not preach again in the United States for any meetings such as special services, dedications or conferences. Not a lot more was said about it except that he would not be preaching any more special meetings.
While it seems odd to hear someone say that those in attendance said that there was no hint of bitterness or animosity. Just a precious Pentecostal icon letting the world know that his ministy is going to pretty much be limited to overseas.
Ladies and Gentlemen, there are very few men with the character and humility of James Kilgore. I can't question the man's character but I do wish I knew what was in the Bishop's mind. His kind simply can't be replaced.
Are you simply inferring that he will preach overseas or did he say that he will continue to?
How's his health?

He came into my life in THE MOST crucial moment of my life and ministry. I was priviledged to call him Pastor for two years...it was while in Houston that Bro. Strange and I became so close.
Bro. Strange will attest to the fact that we had some SERIOUS prayer meetings at old Life Tabernacle.
Me, Him, Sis Alice, Bro Gus, sister Patricia...LORD those folks taught me HOW to pray and touch the throne!!!
Ive been in church all my life but did not REALLY know how to pray until my time at Old Life Tabernacle and Those great people.

I think he feels he has been away from Life Tabernacle way to much. He also has a great love for the Phillipines and has been going and staying there for a good bit of time.
He is a very precious man of God. If you have never had the privledge of knowing him, you have indeed missed a great opportunity.

I have utmost respect for Bro. Kilgore; I have heard nothing but good things about him all my life. He was there for someone very close to me, when they were at a very critical time in their life.

Wow, can anyone even imagine that Brother Kilgore is getting old, his wife is with the Lord, etc, etc, etc?
He is on the top side of 80 right?
I remember we had a beautiful wonderful retired preacher in our church pressing 90 and he got up to the pulpit in January of 2002 and said, "1962 is going to be the best year I am going to have living for GOD!"
Precious man, he is now with Jesus.

No, it was hilarious, we just laughed under our breath, our hands covering our mouth.
This man was also hard of hearing. The road to our church passes our veteran's cemetary, and the pastor was saying one Memorial Day, "Folks I hope you never drive by the military cemetery and not feel something."
This precious man thought the Pastor said, "I HAVE NEVER driven by the military cemetery..."
He shouted, "I HAVEN'T EITHER BROTHER!"

Thats as bad as the time a man was sleeping ...he was in his 90's....the preacher was preaching......All of a sudden the man woke up...(Lord knows what he was dreaming)...and shouted "THATS RIGHT BROTHER....STRIP HER NAKED"
Needless to say church, church was OVER!!!!!!!:slaphappy

It is sad that he is no longer going to be speaking however, My former pastor and one of Bro Kilgores dearest friends said the same thing a couple of years ago due to having parkinsons that he wouldnt be preaching anymore. In the last 6 months that I have visited his church occasionally he is actually the only one I think I have heard preach there even though he has stepped down as pastor. Maybe same will be the case for Bro Kilgore, he may preach more now than he has in a long time, one never knows.

I've talked with my darling Pastor. His burden, love and desire is for the Phillipine people. He really has no great desire to be in the US very much.
Aug 5th will be the march from what is the gym to the new sanctuary. It is really a beautiful place. I wish it were possible for all of you to be here with us for this great celebration.
Anthony Mangun will be preaching that night in a great Holy Ghost rally. It should be spectacular. I would love to see as many of you there as possible.

Is there a website with pics of the new sanctuary? How large is it compared to the old one that I would have visited back in the mid to late 1970's?
What is the pastor's name at Life Tab now?
Bro. Kilgore is one of the few men who have been around as long as he has that I have never heard anything but good about. Truly a beloved elder of the UPC.

There was a website up showing the new sanctuary under construction but I don't know what happened to it. It is considerably larger than the one you would have visited back in the mid 70s. Mid seventies was before they knocked out the walls of the old sanctuary on Broadway and greatly enlarged the seating capacity.
Incidently, I will take plenty of pictures and post them here.

We all live with regrets.
I regret I had too much for supper.
I regret I didn't get a real degree instead of a BC piece of paper.
I regret I haven't exercised more.
I regret that I rented too long instead of purchasing.

Nice looking website. I am always amused though at pics on old time Pentecostal church websites that feature people who look nothing like 99.9% of old time Pentecostals. Such was the case of the pic under "Get Connected" on the Life Tab home page.
Sounds like the new auditorium will be about the same size as ours here at Christ Church Nashville and also Promiseland in Austin. However KP's Promiseland sanctuary in Austin appears much larger than CC because all 2200of it's seats are on one level. KP hates balcony's in churches so therefore Promiseland does not have one! If it did the sanctuary probably would have seat over 3,000

I remember seeing a sermon on TBN titled, "Help, I've Fallen and the Church Won't Let Me Get Back UP."

Wonderful. A thread started to honor one of the greatest among us almost turned into another Affirmation Statement debate.
The man deserves honor and it's humorous to me that even honoring a well deserving Elder can be tarnished if we're not careful. The man deserves honor. Period.

Impossible. He has pastored in Texas for the last 100 years or so. He has held some National and TX District offices with the UPC but I don't believe in the 80's they had a preacher pastoring in Houston Texas as the DS of VA!!!!

Brother Kilgore is MY Pastor and has been for many years.
I love this man next to Jesus Christ. I pray for him daily with tears moved by deep love. He has expressed the same sentiment toward me, many times.
I honor this great man as I see him, as so many have said, including Jean Urshan, "He is more like Jesus than anyone that I've ever known." So true. So true. I do not feel like that I would have completely lived my whole life if I were to depart this life not having ever known this blessed man, of deep humility and all compassing love that seem to have no bounds. His compassion and godly affections are as a river that springs up into an ocean from the base of the throne of God itself.
How can I honor this great man? With a bowed head and absolute silence when in his presence. With prayer and affectionate recollections when I am not in his presence.

One of the highest honours paid to us was when Bro. Kilgore requested our presence at his yearly Foreign Missions conference held at Life Tab. We got to spend time personally with Bro. and Sis. Kilgore and with the other staff and missionaries who were there. It was wonderful!
He took care of us in absolutely top quality fashion. And who would expect otherwise?
Put us up in a beautiful hotel.
Gave us his own Lincoln to drive.
Increased our PIM support
Contributed a large amount of $$$ to the project monies we were raising at the time.
Gave us 5 offerings - one of them for me personally and one also for each of our children. They've never forgotten this! :)
More than that, later when my dad was having open heart surgery, he paid my ticket home and back.
The man is just quality through and through and it shines out and through him for all to see.

I've seen this blessed man do things like this so many, many times.
My grandson who just turned old enough to learn how to ride a bicycle was so surprised and will never forget when "Pappa K" rung the door bell. His mother opened the door and there stood this blessed man. After a few words of greetings, he asked for Matthew.
Matthew came running down the stairs, so surprised to see pappa K standing there completely unannounced. "Matthew I have something for you. Come with me to the car."
Matthew followed him to the car where pappa K opened the truck and pulled out a brand new bicycle to give to him. It was his first two wheel bike...with training wheels of course. WOW! That little boy will never forget.
Pastor Kilgore has always been like that. Those young people would almost scoop up the ground he walks on. He has won their love. Now many of them are grown, many on the mission fields, pastoring churches and are scattered in the Lord's work around the world.
Oh my! What a legacy of Christ-likeness. I see Jesus.

When I was last there for the baptism of our dear Bro. Chosen, The church there asked if anyone had a car to donate to a struggling family...I was impressed by that.
As I was leaving, Pastor Kilgore gave me a sisterly hug and said he loved me and hoped I would come back soon. He has always been so warm and gracious.
I respect men of God who know when the time has come to pull back and let others take the baton and run with it.

After reading these testiomonies you can see why his son at to get up in the pulpit and ask folks NOT to ask his father for money. He would give more than he could afford to give.
He is very giving. Has sold his cars to go on mission trips. I think finally someone gave him a car and put it in his sons name to keep him from being able to sell it.
He is priceless. Not one streak of greed in the man. :)
