I will be politically correct, and completely honest, in saying that I do not believe Matt is at odds with Hebrews 6.
I attempted to engage a dialogue concerning this very subject last night.
My reference was the letters from Christ to the seven churches in Asia Minor.
Some churches were deeply involved in sinful activity, yet given space to repent before the light was put out in them. God repeatedly expressed His displeasure with their sin, but extended a space to repent.
Think about it.

I do not believe in the false doctrine of unconditional eternal security.
I do not believe you lose the Holy Ghost every time you fail.
I do believe our assurance lies in Jesus Christ, and his Mercy and Power.

What happens if your driving down the road, someone cuts you off, you curse them, and then a bus hits you broadside - leaving you deader than a doornail?
Heaven or Hell?

WOW, PP.......this thread blows me away!!! I was contemplating the situation of a man committing suicide here this past weekend who was the son of a man Mrs. MOW works with. Tragic situation......kicked me in the gut!!
I was on my way to the office this morning and was thinking about this and was also thinking about starting a thread almost identical to this one. I was thinking along the lines you proposed, but I was thinking about a poll with possible "sins" someone could commit right before death and still go to heaven and ones that would take them "South."
I really used to have a better handle on the suicide situation and a solid answer. It is not so solid any more. That is what happens when "pat" answers no longer satisfy your queries.

Heaven or Hell?I think #2 of your 3 point post answers this question. Well, actually points 2 & 3.

Hey MOW, I think when a person obeys Acts 2:38, from that time on, and as long they live - they are God's child. Jesus said, "except ye repent, I will blot out your name" (paraphrase) God gives us much mercy and grace. Death is the first judgement, and at that time, the book is closed - and its entry is final.
In no way am I saying I believe in unconditional eternal security. I am saying God gives us every opportunity to repent.

I think we're very similar in our thinking. I believe in salvational security, but I don't think it is "eternal." I do believe someone can be lost after salvation. I do NOT believe that I or any other man alive can determine when that takes place.
What I'm wondering, and I don't think we will "settle" it, but what "transgression" could someone commit right before death without asking for forgiveness, and still enter heaven?

The problem I have with this is it is what comes out of a man is what defiles him. If cursings are coming out, then this mans heart is not right.

God is for us NOT against us He has provided every provision to save us as High Priest and Advocate he atones when we repent however unrepented sin I think will cause us to be lost.
I do not believe in the false doctrine of unconditional eternal security.I guess that depends on the point at which that security applies. I disagree with the Baptists and Calvinists that it applies at the point of our justification (even though I am a Calvinist) but I do believe that it applies at the point of our glorification (that moment when we go home to be with the Lord).
I do not believe you lose the Holy Ghost every time you fail.Agreed, though it is clear that we can neglect or walk away from the faith and that this would result in the Holy Ghost leaving us.
I do believe our assurance lies in Jesus Christ, and his Mercy and Power.Agreed.
