So what brand of spices do the cooks around here use?

I prefer Spice Islands...they are really fresh. I think their Saigon Cinnamon is the very best!

Whatever Rachel Ray and Paula Dean use on the cooking channel is good enough for me. I love watching those 2

I love spices. I use them on just about everything that I cook. My husband likes cajun seasoning on just about everything he eats.

Carey, I like Spice Island too.

But for chili powder the only one worth using is MEXENE. Too bad it's so hard to find!!!!

Individual spices or spice mixes?

I have 2 spice mixes that I use all the time.... I would hate to have to cook without them.

Tony Chachere's Original Creole Seasoning

And...

Bolners Fiesta Fajita Seasoning

I use a lot of curry in my cooking. I also use rosemary, parsley, garlic and onion. I rarely ever use salt. Ground mustard is great for roasts also.

I use Texjoy Steak Seasoning for my gumbo.

It can be hard to find.

Thank you Esther! I'm picky about my spices...they must be fresh...especially for baked goods.

I get Spice Islands in the grocery store...they come in glass jars.

Mine come in glass jars when I can get them.

I will look at the names.

I get McCormick mostly as I don't have that many choices offered. :(

Hmmm....that's too bad! I've tried all sorts over the years, but LOVE Spice Islands because of the fresheness and potency!

The jar labels are yellow background, brown lettering and mostly green picture in the middle.

We have McCormick out here too...haven't used it in years.

I've only lived on the West Coast all my life...so when we get to Illinois I'm going to check around...they better have my spices!!! :ranting LOL

Carey, try this website for Mexene. I'm going to order some from here because Kroger doesn't carry it. I used to get it at a little locally owned grocery, but that place closed recently. Booo hoooo!!
