if Playboy asked you to do an interview with them, would you turn it down???

I mean, it wouldn't be in the parts of the magazine with the pictures, you could speak AGAINST the pictures, and you could preach the gospel in its entirety in the interview... would you turn the interview down?? I wouldn't...

You need to wait until the article comes out to judge that, no matter what type of publication the interview is going to be in...

and I'm just not interested enough to listen to 15 minute conversations on a radio show... lol

would people think it was ok? Probably not...

But how can someone say they are reaching everyone if they turn down the opportunity to explicitly (ok using that word in this sense is funny) preach the gospel to that many people... Have a pulpit that, yeah, isn't in a great place, but the nudity isn't on that page... It'd be like having a church next door to a strip club... yeah, it isn't a great spot for it, but at the same time, what better place to get the gospel to the dying and hurting from???

and, generally speaking, when people have Chrisitans on thier normal shows like that they make fun of them...

FYI...

the issue is your link isn't the full link...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZOG6......ted&search=

that address there, ellipsis included, is the weblink that you are linking to... You need to get the entire web address and make sure the hyperlink (not the text pasted in the thread) is a full web address (no ellipsis)

replace the * with an appropriate bracket ([ or ]):
*URL="http://www.youtube.com"* http://www.website.com */URL*

the ="site" part needs to be a complete address, it doesn't matter what the text (the second instance of the url) says, it can say "BOO!!" or "Star Jones" or whatever else you want...

The following may shock the AFF conservative faction. Please do not read if you have heart problems:

I saw one of her conference a few weeks ago on Daystar. I was disappointed. She had huge billboards of her candle business on stage and tables of product in front of the stage. I forget the name of the conference, but JB did not deliver. The conference was more like a glorified Amway convention. She was talking about her business and how her candles were going to make her wealthy. Even if half the audience bought one candle she would have grossed over $100,000 in candle sales alone.

I lost all respect for her. If she is going to have a Candle Party, she shouldn't disguise it as a conference and make people pay to attend. She's a fraud. Bynum has a dangerous agenda.

Here's a nice recap of JB's recent events. (Written by a woman)

ALL television (even stuff like Nick, Jr. and PBS Kids and such) is worse than a "sometimes lewd" magazine?!?! Seriously????

www.bigidea.com

those shows are on tv every Saturday morning...

www.skyangel.com

more tv channels that aren't racy or lewd ever...

even TBN or Nickalodean (although one could argue Nick at Nite is starting to get to where they have a few shows that are arguably racy at times)

Well, a couple points.

- My point is the world is full of racy, lewd and inappropriate things and it surrounds you daily.

- TV is not ALWAYS racy. There are many channels that offer good programming, but you wouldn't know that since you don't have a TV.

OH! So then we are going to be advertising only on Nick Jr. and PBS kids? Come on!

Practically no one will advertise their church on these stations. People will want channels like ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox and no one can tell me that these stations are not lewd nor inappropriate.

www.bigidea.com

those shows air on either CBS or NBC

Nick, Jr's stuff airs on, I think NBC

Disney Channel shows air on ABC

Fox has thier own kids "network" that either airs on the Fox affiliate or a secondary affiliate, depending on the market at certain times of the day...

and there is tons of stuff, even on primetime, that is not lewd...

As someone who watches tv, I can tell you, it isn't as bad as you think it is (and it probably isn't as "ok" as I think it is)

actually, my church looked into some tv advertising...

you can get 20 spots that will air between 7-9 AM or 5-6 PM on weekdays (during news programming) on a local affiliate for like $55 a spot in groups of 20 (so $1100)... that isn't really all that bad, and the 5 o'clock news is watched by a ton of people, so that ad (although not necessarily the 7-9 AM one) would get seen by a ton of people...

although, yeah, the cable ads are much cheaper than that (couple bucks a spot)

(note: all of this doesn't include the cost of making a commercial, but it can't be more than a couple hundred with how cheap equiptment and video editing software is nowadays)

However, when you know the majority have no problem watching it, then the whole argument is just dumb.

I can understand the thinking here, but honestly, didn't Jesus go to the sinners?

Someone looking at racy magazines are searching for something - that's why they are looking at those magazines, so who's to say finding an ad giving them hope or an option couldn't reach out and touch them?

I think we really do limit ourselves sometimes.

stop and think about it...

how many churches would YOU want to see broadcast on tv?? I can just see some churches version of "Helicopter" being aired....and how do you explain the running and pew jumping??

I've heard preachers say they have a hard enough time keeping their saints saved - how in the world to they expect to handle an influx of the unchurched when we fail in the new convert care and teaching of our "regulars"

NOT ALL churches, but many...

the broadcasting was just my extra 2 cent observation...

I think the whole debate is silly anyway...those that can will, those that can't wont..and everyone else will continue on in the way they are currently.

Those that want to be on TV for the reasons the UCs are so afraid of - well, they'll find a way. Things have a way of sorting themselves out.

I think that either side of the issues (tv, standards etc) need to just decided if being in the UPC is their best option and either get on board with the direction its going or get out before they get bitter and destroy themselves...

how complicated is this, really??

I think A LOT of stuff could be worked out on our knees.....

Well, for one thing its worth noting that if you advertise on a specific channel or in a particular magazine, you are, in effect, supporting them. I think that advertising on a generic channel or just in a secular magazine is one thing, but to advertise on a channel or in a magazine that specializes in X-rated material? I don't see the need for that.

As for being embarrassed by some churches being on TV...nah. I think some of the stuff on TBN is MUCH more gag-worthy. I've seen folks dancing around and jumping and running aisles on a number of non-Apostolic programs. That's nothing new and nothing to worry about.

There are kooks in every group. Most people are smart enough to know that already, and the kooks won't be all that popular. Then again...there is TBN to think about....LOL!

one thing is for certain you cant have ought in your heart for your brother or sister if you are praying for them-thats one thing that would happen for sure. If that makes sense-

my husband and I don't have the best marriage - it's a LOT of work and it's very very hard......and I know why. I was backslid, living in sin when we got together and we started out wrong...so we have an uphill battle to fight.

BUT - the only place that it can be fixed is in the prayer room.

and it's hard, I know it is...I'm the most stubborn person besides my husband, and we have problems when I refuse to get on my knees and address the issues...and be CONSISTANT.

You know, I really hate the devil, he has people so confused and bound...when he's nothing really. All smoke and mirrors..he has NO power over our prayer. He's got so many bound by a whole lot of "what ifs" and things that will never be...if we'd just pray.

He's so stupid, and we are so gullible. I'd like to just smack him one good time and tell he to just stop bothering me and distracting me.

I have to hush, my soap box is getting a work out today!

can you tell I'm eat up with conviction today? LOL

It was TIC, RC. LOL. We've watched PPV movies before! I just forgot that they don't have commercials...although I do seem to remember some advertisements between showtimes, but maybe it was just for other movies.

Because the point I was trying to make is if someone presents you with the opportunity to spread the gospel, you should take it...

I agree with your generic statement, but I think there are exceptions. As I mentioned before, advertising in publications and within certain programming is financial support for that publication and/or that programming, and therefore it would have to be considered whether or not paying their bills warranted a spot where "sinners" are definitely going to see the ad, and how that would look overall in the public eye, both Christian and secular alike.

There is a point when "don't let your good be evil spoken of" DOES come into play...isn't there? Is there ever a point that it should matter?

Maybe I'm not thinking out of the box enough. *shrug*

ok, since this is where the ladies are...my mom is sending a test picture of the Tampa airport to test our system of "reporting" from conference :)

lets see how this will work..she is supposed to send me pictures of the clothes, the fads, all the new things :)

So far so good! Please keep the reports coming!

You could start your own thread too :saycheese

SINNER!!

and, yeah, they used to have some "filler" stuff in between the time the movie ends and a half-hour block that the next one can start (so, the movie runs 105 minutes including the end credits, but it is scheduled for 2 hours, so they have 15 minutes of "filler" which is basically nothing-fluff or whatever ads for other movies they are showing on PPV are in between, but the assumption is no one is actually watching the channel during this time)

Nowadays, however, PPV is almost all "in Demand" where you essentially rent the movie for a block of time and can play, rewind, fast forward, etc. the movie for that period of time...

I would say advertising would be crossing the line because of the financial/support aspect of it... if Playboy has no advertisers, they don't exist... so why help them exist by advertising in it???

I was referring to if Playboy asked to interview you (and it wasn't being done at the Playboy Mansion lol) and you could teach the gospel in the interview, how could one turn it down, ya know?

and there is a point where that comes into play, I think advertising (and thus paying for the magazine to exist) is probably at that point, but if they want to give us free space in thier magazine, I don't see why we should turn it down...

(not that they ever would, but whatever)
