I would never reveal anything personally or attack anyone on a public forum, even though I could say much all in truth. God will judge. I am not worried about others paying their dues. If not in this world, in the world to come.

Maybe he would have, and maybe he wouldn't have. His flirting with trinitarians would have likely gotten him booted.

Kinda easy to say UPC should apologize to a lot of people but not be willing to expound. You know, I've been around the bush a few times myself, and a whole lot of Christiandom could apologize for a whole lot of things. Not just UPC and affiliates. We're all wrong sometimes.

Have a feeling Jesus would have gotten the boot too, making wine, speaking to prostitutes with no one else around.... the list goes on... :sshhh

SM,

as I said somewhere above, I think there is a big difference in going outside of the 4 walls and attempting to reach the trinitarians with Truth, and inviting them in to feed the flock that God has made you overseer of. Do you agree??

To err is human,
to forgive is divine.

Neither is UPC policy

your take on it

As I mentioned in an ealier post on in another thread. I lived in Ft. Worth in 1975 and 1976.

My father was the dean of Theology at Mark Hanby's Wide World of Ministries bible college.

I was 11-12 years old.

The General Conference was in Ft. Worth in 1975.

I remember my dad at a dinner for ministers who were to attend the GC.

Talking to Norman Pasley from Cincinnati, OH, Mark Hanby and Kenneth Phillips.

After the preconference rally at Mark Hanby's church.

There was a silent group of ministers that were thinking about leaving the UPC.

I know first hand some of the issues Mark Hanby had back in those days.

Mark Hanby came to Cincinnati in March of 1978 along with some 200 other ministers to attend my Dad's funeral (My dad was only 43) the same age I am now.

At that funeral after the service and at the dinner we had for everyone put on by the church.

I witnessed a conversation between my Mom, Mark Hanby and Nathaniel Urshan.

Mark Hanby began to cry, he told my Mom and Bro Urshan that my father was someone that he wished he could have been!

I heard him tell Bro Urshan that never had he witnessed a man with such a love for God's word.

He was telling them that my Dad believed that there would be very large churches in the future.

Then he mentioned that my Dad John Eckstadt prophesied that the One God message would be heard around the world via the use of TV.

I remember looking at a very stunned Nathaniel Urshan as my Mom started to cry and told Mark Hanby.

She told the both of them as other men stood near by, that he thought big, he believed big, he had God reveal to him big.

That was a day that I will never forget.

My dad had a dream of Debating the Oneness/Trinity doctrine on TV. He would take both sides of the debate.

In 1961 my dad had converted a UPC church in Hartford. Connecticut to the Assembly of God. Then in 1963 he converted them back to the UPC as received the Oneness revelation.

Since he knew the Trinity doctrine from start to finish with having attended one of their largest and most popular AOG bible colleges in the late 1950's.

I am not sure what the UPC should do with Kenneth Phillips.

But it sure is a sign that God is still moving on the prophetic words of a good man that has been resting in Christ since 1978.

Maybe extend a hand of friendship and brotherhood to Kenneth Phillips. That could be very good and very healing.

The MH thing...that's another matter completely.

Some fishy stuff goin' on there...

LOL!!!! That would be like the Federal government apologizing to American Indians that Columbus discovered America or that the Pilgrams came.

Makes no sense to me. Obviously I think the UPC was wrong way back in 1977but to expect them to apologize now for a legitimate heartfelt decision that was made back then is silly to me.

What should be done is an offical statement on the reason for the change now.

Then state that the vision that started with men as far back as 1975 has now come to pass...

Was it 1977 or 1976 when him and Hanby left, I was a young child at the WOP at the time, so I can't remember the year, but if it was 1977, wow that would be a irony, 30 years later.

You still cannot have a program on TV in the UPC. Res #4 was only for advertising on TV.

Of course once the ultra con take their marbles and go home there may be enough votes to pass a broader resolution in the next few years allowing programs.

Plus KP does not teach the uncut hair doctrine nor does he preach against jewelry, makeup. or pants on women. Not exactly UPC material.

However I was in church this past Wednesday at Promiseland Austin and I counted 9 bunheads. That is a marked increase from the years I was there. I think some of it might be Suberites.

I also met two pretty girsl who were out of the O.F. David Fauss church Greater Bethel in Houston. They also had cut hair, makeup, etc. Is Fauss still UPC?

LOL!!! It is true that KP would have never left the UPC and would most likely be a lot more conservative today had he not been pushed out of the nest back in 1977.

However he was pushed out and he did become exposed to a lot of different perspectives than the one he had grown up with. He retained the 3 stepper PAJC view of salvation but also learned that Oneness folks don't have a lock on all truth. That there are many things we can learn from Trinitarian Christians and to witness to them about Acts 2:38 you need to have dialogue with them and befriend them.

CC1,

Hate to tell you but there are some in the UPC today that don't teach that stuff. After this week, he might be more open to come back and many might want him back because of his vision and experience in that area.

I hope that we have the media division if they try to do this on a denominational level to get some consultation and expertise, maybe from the guys who do the Mormon/United Methodist Ads.

yes i know they recently built a new church. i think they recently had a conference too

anyhow, I am a little surprised- i guess i was under the impression that KP was still pretty traditional. whereas, the fenders are far far to the left of KP.
