Just wondering if anyone in AFF land has ever done special Sundays in your Sunday school and if so can you share them thanks!

We did a western themed Sunday. We put up western style props and had a jail. The bail for those arrested was used to raise money for a bus ministry project. It was called The Cross...God's ranch. We had a sunday school round-up...a big push for the bus ministry.

We also have "water wars." All of the children in Sunday school dress very casually. Then, they have water baloons and water guns to play with. (Recommended for summer. LOL Not too much fun to have ice wars. ;) )

We have children's church about every other month. One of the ministers on the ministerial staff teaches a sermon and one of the musicians uses a keyboard. The advantage of this is that on that day, the regular SS staff gets to go out to the main auditorium to be ministered to and have the morning off.

We have done special Sundays before for attendance drives. Pie in your face Sunday,( if a certain number of people come we get to throw whip cream pies in a leaders face) ice - cream sunday, candy bar sundays, backward sundays ( everyone wears clothes backwards) We also do alot of attendance drives. Children have to earn bonus bucks, tickets, stars or whatever. This allows the children to get trophies, trips to special places or special prizes. This works great at our church.

AmazingGrace,
Are you using the power hour curriculum from the UPC??? If so, which one. What are your ideas, and how do you get your children in the altar???

There is a small book put out by PPH called "How to pray with children to receive the Holy Ghost."

You get them to come the altar when you invite them to the altar after the presense of God fills the room.

We reach beyond the walls of our church kids. So, we are not dealing with children that have been raised on pews all of their lives. So therefore, when you dealing with unchurched kids its hard sometimes to get them to the altar.

We too have both.. we have unchurched and churched kids.. They do use the power hour stuff and we also have very trained and talented teachers who also use stuff of their own. Our SALT team also works with the kids (salt is our student action leadership team which is a group of our youth who feel the call to the ministry) The few times I have actually been in the services where the kids came to the altar... it was very much like a regular church service geared to them with puppet show etc... I do know I have seen the book BOOM mentioned in our book store at church before.. I have also read it and its a very good book... worth the money and the read.
