But of course since doctrine means nothing anymore, carry on.

Matthew 12:23-25

Matthew 15:1-3
1Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,

2Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

3But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

In reading back over this thread, I realized I didn't address this post.

What in my post has anything to do with tradition? I asked what doctrine the man was preaching, and you make a post insinuating that I am holding to tradition. Read these verses please, and tell me what got the people astonished, the miracles, or the doctrine?

Mat 7:28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

Mat 22:33 And when the multitude heard [this], they were astonished at his doctrine.

Mar 1:22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

Mar 11:18 And the scribes and chief priests heard [it], and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

Luk 4:32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.

Here is some more of the spiritual garbage that is coming from the FL "revival"

A FACE TO FACE ENCOUNTER
by Revivalist Todd Bentley [ as edited by Kathy Thorne]

MORE WITH PAUL

After that, Paul took me to his house. (I was still in paradise [the third heaven]. His house wasn’t a mansion. It was actually a small cabin. There was an open field and a forest there.) Inside his cabin I saw books wall to wall, and scrolls. I saw every book that’s in the Bible as well as Paul’s diaries/journals that covered things that had happened in his meetings, things God had spoken to him, and things he had written that aren’t in the Bible. Paul said, “Not everything’s in there, Todd. Not everything’s in the Bible.” Just so you know, Paul didn’t give me a new gospel and all my revelation is based on the Bible. I’m not talking about a new gospel!

Paul took down the book of Titus and he said, “You need to eat this.” He explained that Titus was his apostolic son in the faith, and he said, “This is for the sons and daughters that you are raising up. I want you to get an impartation of what it really means to be an apostle, what it really means to have sons and daughters, and what it really means to be a son.”

Next he took down another scroll; this time it was Hebrews and he told me to eat it. This book is one of the most prophetic books in the Bible, and in that connection he told me something that I want to share with you even though I’m probably “stepping out” on theology now.

First of all, I want you to understand that Paul always made it clear when he authored an epistle—“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ” or “Paul, a bond-servant of Christ.” Always! Yet, for the Book of Hebrews, although most Bible scholars believe that it was authored by Paul, there are those that really can’t say it was him because the authorship is never clear. Paul told me why.

Here is what he said to me. “Do you know why I know so much about Abraham?” [So much of Hebrews is based on other things that you just can’t pull from in other scriptures.] Paul said, “When I was in the third heaven, Abraham was with me like you are with me now. Abraham himself shared (information) with me and I simply wrote it” (in the Book of Hebrews). “The authorship isn’t clear because it was Abraham and I; Abraham shared the content with me.” [Much of Hebrews is about Abraham; i.e. Hebrews Chapter 11.]

He said (paraphrased): “Remember, when I was caught up into the third heaven, I heard inexpressible words. I actually spoke with Abraham, and Abraham shared details with me about what took place, about Melchizedek and all these things that only Abraham knew. I authored the book as the Holy Spirit moved on me, supernaturally. Some of what I wrote, I learned by talking to Abraham face to face when I visited him in heaven.” That’s what Paul told me!

A lot of eye-opening stuff can be found here.

Last night I watched one of Mr. Bentley's services on TV. The way he looked didn't bother me, but his methods did. I am assuming this was a "healing" service since he had person after person coming up and getting the "laying on of hands". All of them fell in the "spirit" except for a pregnant woman and a toddler. If they didn't fall out in the "spirit" the first time he pushed them on their chests, they did after the second or third time.
When I first started watching the program I didn't realize it was the revival that was talked about here.
Some of the people had obvious physical disabilities, others didn't. While I didn't watch for a long time I did feel it was a little strange.

I don't know enough about this man's ministry to make a judgment one way or another, but I will say this...

There are apparently some self-described "apostolics" in Oneness circles who feel that as long as there are healings taking place at a particular place, or someone speaking in tongues there, then obviously it's a "move of God", and "all that doctrinal stuff" doesn't matter.

Quite unfortunate.

Doctrine does have a way of dividing truth from error, doesn't it. It really surprises me that so many here seem to rather want the signs and wonders, and disregard doctrine as secondary. So much so that I find myself fitting in less and less with this "new" generation of Apostolics (though some of them are not new to Truth)

St Matthew, I am rather conflicted myself... having read just enough of this thread and other news about the revival to see the conflict, I must say I can't fit very well into what is happening in FL.

I try to keep in mind the news headlines were not favorable at Azusa Street either. The "scribes" generally do not cover changed lives and folks turning from sin.

I would have to say any and all movements would need to be judged by the fruits of those drawn to it and not simply the parts that make the news, or reports of those already opposed to anything outside traditional church worship.

It goes without saying that the scripture cannot be compromised in any case - and if it is in compromise, it still does not cancel everyone's experience there.

It is said God uses the spectacular to spead the Gospel. But sometimes when a movement is characterized by the extreme bizarre it also loses it's broader appeal - I can see that. Just because a large crowd is gathered, does not mean 99.9% of Christians don't object.

I do believe God often works outside the :crazywalls and does a new thing... so I don't want to dismiss anything simply because it is abnormal if good fruit is present.

Do some of you think that just because some of us are not outrightly dismissing this revival that we totally altogether approve of everything Todd Bentley stands for?

I don't approve of everything, I am not happy with some of the things he believes either.

And I don't think because someone stands up on a platform with a mic that they necessarily have Gods approval-

But isn't it God who heals anyway and if some one travels 2000 miles for a miracle and receives one, who am I to tell them that their healing didn't come from God.

Generally speaking those with obvious physical disabilities leave with the same, while those with depression, back aches, migranes, arthritis, "cancer" etc are quick to offer "testimony of healing".

This is not the way it was with the healing ministry of Christ.

oh well... God knows...

All healing and salvation comes from God. And by our faith are we blessed by Him. I cannot dismiss everything, I only saw one TV program, where there seemed to be something just not right. I don't really know if anyone got healed or not. The ones with the visible disabilities, went away the same way they came, unable to walk unassisted.

Well his style is a little different. But the night I saw they was a man that received a knee cap who did have one and was able to bend his leg, another was paralyzed and was able to start moving (in the wheel chair), there were some deaf ears open and someone in a morgue came to life.

Now I am not one that gets excited about the person and thinks that they have this magical divine connection that is so special I become enamored with them. So really not about Todd, Todd is nothing special with in himself, really none of us are.

To me it just simply faith and someone responding to prayers. The word has gotten out that something special is happening-that alone could build someones faith thinking if they go they will receive from God, so again it's not about Todd, he is just the man on the platform praying.
