What in my post has anything to do with tradition? I asked what doctrine the man was preaching, and you make a post insinuating that I am holding to tradition. Read these verses please, and tell me what got the people astonished, the miracles, or the doctrine? Mat 7:28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: Mat 22:33 And when the multitude heard [this], they were astonished at his doctrine. Mar 1:22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes. Mar 11:18 And the scribes and chief priests heard [it], and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine. Luk 4:32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power. |

Here is some more of the spiritual garbage that is coming from the FL "revival"

Re: Lakeland Florida Revival?????
Last night I watched one of Mr. Bentley's services on TV. The way he looked didn't bother me, but his methods did. I am assuming this was a "healing" service since he had person after person coming up and getting the "laying on of hands". All of them fell in the "spirit" except for a pregnant woman and a toddler. If they didn't fall out in the "spirit" the first time he pushed them on their chests, they did after the second or third time.
When I first started watching the program I didn't realize it was the revival that was talked about here. Some of the people had obvious physical disabilities, others didn't. While I didn't watch for a long time I did feel it was a little strange. |
Re: Lakeland Florida Revival?????
I don't know enough about this man's ministry to make a judgment one way or another, but I will say this...
There are apparently some self-described "apostolics" in Oneness circles who feel that as long as there are healings taking place at a particular place, or someone speaking in tongues there, then obviously it's a "move of God", and "all that doctrinal stuff" doesn't matter. Quite unfortunate. |

St Matthew, I am rather conflicted myself... having read just enough of this thread and other news about the revival to see the conflict, I must say I can't fit very well into what is happening in FL. I try to keep in mind the news headlines were not favorable at Azusa Street either. The "scribes" generally do not cover changed lives and folks turning from sin. I would have to say any and all movements would need to be judged by the fruits of those drawn to it and not simply the parts that make the news, or reports of those already opposed to anything outside traditional church worship. It goes without saying that the scripture cannot be compromised in any case - and if it is in compromise, it still does not cancel everyone's experience there. It is said God uses the spectacular to spead the Gospel. But sometimes when a movement is characterized by the extreme bizarre it also loses it's broader appeal - I can see that. Just because a large crowd is gathered, does not mean 99.9% of Christians don't object. I do believe God often works outside the :crazywalls and does a new thing... so I don't want to dismiss anything simply because it is abnormal if good fruit is present. |
Re: Lakeland Florida Revival?????
Do some of you think that just because some of us are not outrightly dismissing this revival that we totally altogether approve of everything Todd Bentley stands for?
I don't approve of everything, I am not happy with some of the things he believes either. And I don't think because someone stands up on a platform with a mic that they necessarily have Gods approval- But isn't it God who heals anyway and if some one travels 2000 miles for a miracle and receives one, who am I to tell them that their healing didn't come from God. |

Now I am not one that gets excited about the person and thinks that they have this magical divine connection that is so special I become enamored with them. So really not about Todd, Todd is nothing special with in himself, really none of us are. To me it just simply faith and someone responding to prayers. The word has gotten out that something special is happening-that alone could build someones faith thinking if they go they will receive from God, so again it's not about Todd, he is just the man on the platform praying. |
