Re: New Pope Elected Yet?

Allen described the name of Pope Francis as "the most stunning" choice and "precedent shattering."

El nuevo papa es latinoamericano

Latin American catholics: So proud, happy "There are cornerstone figures in Catholicism" such as St. Francis, Allen said. Figures of such stature as St. Francis seem "irrepeatable -- that there can be only one Francis," he added.

The name symbolizes "poverty, humility, simplicity and rebuilding the Catholic Church," Allen said.

Hmmm...

The news just said he chose Frances because it means "rebuild my church". Wonder if that's true?

Re: New Pope Elected Yet?

A friend of mine just posted this on Facebook - a conversation she had with her young daughter yesterday. I laughed so hard reading it that I just had to share it with all of you..............

"I had to do a system restore on M's laptop the other day, so she was sitting next to me on the couch, waiting anxiously as I rebooted and attempted to re-connect her to the internet.

The first image we saw as the MSN home-page came up was a "breaking news" bulletin announcing the election of the new Pope. Flexing her current event muscle, M. motioned at the screen and casually remarked that she heard that one of the Red Sox was up for the position.

I looked at her in sheer confusion until I made the connection - Red Sox > NBA > Cardinals > Pope - and promptly collapsed into a fit of laughter. She huffed: "Well, I knew it was SOMETHING red!" Which only made it worse. I wonder if she'll forgive me before she turns 21...?"

Evidently taken from St Francis of Assissi.

Or as I used to quip in catholic high school, about age 16:

"Saint Francis, A Sissy."
