Re: You Might Be a Legalist when....
Please lets not make this about salvation or who is saved or who isn't, this was meant to be in fun and poking at the inconsistencies that OP's have.
Akin to poking at that relative that is quirky and a little touched. |

You might be a legalist when...
... You frustrate grace (Galatians 2.16-21) by adding works of the law back into the message of salvation by grace through faith. A liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free... not to live a life of lasciviousness and sin, but to be led by the Spirit; not to fulfill the lusts of the flesh, but to crucify the flesh with its affections and lusts. Not adhering to "standards" is not the same as "anything goes," as some may think. If you look at it Biblically, it's actually a higher call that we are given to be holy (for He is holy) that changes your ENTIRE BEING (including hateful attitudes, how we present ourselves, how we communicate with others (in the world as well as with our brothers), and how we look). I've seen many, though, who feel that because they obey the "standards of holiness" that they have done all that is required, and they enjoy when they can give a good "dressing down" to some sinful liberal christian. There are errors of extremes on both sides of this issue. There are un-Christ-like attitudes and mean-spirited posts and comments on both sides of this issue. Say what you want, but I don't believe Jesus would have us beating on our brothers the way we do over this issue (and we ARE brethren here). Believe it or don't - it doesn't change the truth. |

(3)But I am thick skinned however I do shoot back. (1) Well no kidding Sherlock! Now if you can connect being born Black with choosing to live a lifestyle while condemning others who don't follow you to the "t" and compelling others to follow you to the "t" with opinions taught as doctrine and real scripture manipulated, then maybe you will make sense. (2) Those who would attach standards to the Acts 2:38 message (as in giving it the same significance as Acts 2:38) are adding to the Word of the Lord. To call them "legalist" is polite. The Book of Revelations tells the end of those who add to the Word of God. My beef is with legalists and hypocrites-- to me they are one in the same. There is NOTHING righteous or honest or Christ like about being a minister in an organization that expects you to not have a tv, but you have one any way and then you hide it when your Pastor comes to your house! What kind of mess is that! That guy is not struggling with a sin, he's just being a hypocrite! For the sin that I wrestle with, I call it sin and don't try to justify it. If it's not sin to have a tv, then don't be a preacher in an organization that says it is! And DON'T hide the stupid thing from your Pastor when he comes over because GOD is our Judge, not the Pastor. (3) Stay focussed and shoot straight-- no shotguns are needed on this thread. (my smiley is broken) Mr. Epley, You owe me an apology. Your response was completely off topic and senseless-- no to mention offensive on several levels. I didn't start this thread. Given the law of averages, I'd say the person who started this thread was not Black, but I'm not sure. I wasn't joking at all with my posts, but my post was not directed at any one person, definitely not you. I don't know much about you. I do know that I have never disrespected you before. You hit below the belt, took a personal shot at me, for no reason at all. I hope you get the chance to get back online and square this away soon. I hope all is well with you. 1399 |
