She told me how one of the church sisters she was staying with in Texas gave her a hard time about wearing makeup. Once, the sister took her to the bathroom and made her look in the mirror and said to her "See, don't you see how that makeup makes you look like a prostitute?" My heart just sank when I heard that.

She went back to Japan about a month or two later. About a month after that, we received an email from her saying she had gotten the Holy Ghost in Japan! I was so happy for her, and I was glad she had hung in there. Praise God!!

But I couldn't help but wonder how many people we have lost over the years, through overzealousness and insensitivity. I know it must hurt God's heart. It hurts me, for sure.

i'm so glad she stuck with it and didn't give up despite some ole' holier than thou comments. that's rare.

reminds me of a sermon i heard bro. t.f. tenney preach about holiness. he said it was never meant to be used to beat someone over the head with.

he said he had a pastor friend who called him crying one day and said that he (the friend) preached a message on standards one night and he saw a visitor slip in who was very made up...jeweled up, etc. and when he saw her he got angry and preached those standards harder than ever cause he thought she needed to hear it...went down the line...preaching against everything she probably had on.

well he told bro. tenney that he found out that visitor committed suicide the next day and left a note that said "i searched for happiness, tried everything, even tried church, but they don't want me either". very true story! very very sad! later that friend was truly sorry and convicted about his condemning sermon, but a lonely soul left his church that night feeling even emptier. i'll NEVER forget that message.

To me if you're going to be consistent, then if you believe that wearing pants is disallowed by scripture, pajamas are out because the bottoms are definitely pants.

I can't figure out how people will say that wearing a pair of jeans is wrong but they wear sweat pants or other kinds of pants around the house or in the yard or when they're on vacation ..... or pyjamas for sleeping, and it's okay.

Makes no sense.

Stunning.

You know, there's a part of me that's hoping this story isn't true.
Not to say anyone's lying, but it would almost be better if there was some hearsay, embellishment, etc. somewhere in the process here.
But I'm really hoping it didn't really go down the way the way you were told, crazy as it sounds.

i would love it if it weren't true. i just know i heard the sermon myself from bro. tenney and he was speaking first hand of a good friend of his. but of course i know things can be embellished. the sermon is entitled "let the redeemed of the Lord dress so"...i heard it on tape...i probably bought it at La. campmeeting in the bookstore or something. it's been a few years.

He and I are having cofee and talking and a couple minutes later she comes in the kitchen and it was the funniest thing, she has on a skirt, one of those jean kind that goes to the top of her knees, over her pajama pants. I was practically rofl, but I held it in so as not to embarrass her,but it was hard, it was a really goofy sight. I guess she thouht I would be offended if she wasn't wearing the skirt( which I wouldn't have been).

ARPH :doggyrun

Ah....you forgot to tell them you came from an Ultra Liberal church before going there (at least to hear some people mis-characterize that church)?
