Re: Is Obesity a Sin?
[QUOTE=2020Vision;662038]Sigh - this topic AGAIN? Obesity and gluttony aren't the same, though the share a relationship.
Well, it should be brought up again and again, this is a "big" thing in the Churches. We don't eat to live, we live to eat. Right after Church, the buffet restaurants are crowded with Church goers. And I was right there amongst them all, not just chowing down, but cowing down. Moooooo |

Re: Is Obesity a Sin?
We will reap what we sow.
I think it needs to be preached and taught against. People think as long as they aren't smoking or drinking they are fine. "Hey, I'm not fornicating. I'm a good Christian! Yes I would like to super size my Double Whopper with cheese combo. And can I get a piece of the Reese's pie with that? Thank you. Drinking a little beer or wine would at leats have a benficial effect on your blood pressure. The way we eat does nothing but harm us. |

–noun 1. transgression of divine law: the sin of Adam. 2. any act regarded as such a transgression, esp. a willful or deliberate violation of some religious or moral principle. 3. any reprehensible or regrettable action, behavior, lapse, etc.; great fault or offense: It's a sin to waste time. We all sin, and self analysis is important for everyone. I can sin if I don't discuss this issue with the right spirit. Aquila, did you watch the Video a few posts back? The Health ramifications of this problem in our Country are staggering. I hope we can somehow break out of this denial in the Church, as this does reflect our desire about caring for ourselves and our children. A new study has shown, Cigarette smoking is less damaging to the body than being obese. If we continue to ignore these types of studies or stories like the one done on CBS, those on the outside looking in and our children will laugh off our adherence to uphold other commitments of abstinence. |

Yet, some preach total abstinence because of the dangers of abuse, while they have significant health problems from overeating. I just don't get this. This is going to bite us as Christians (I think it already has). I try to approach my heavy friends with the intention of helping them to see this. Even with an acceptable attitude, many don't want to discuss it, or change. Why doesn't repentance include overeating? What kind of example are we leaving our children? |
Re: Is Obesity a Sin?
I have a hard time thinking God will entertain our requests for healing in a prayer line after we find out we have adult diabetes or loads of heart problems brought on by years of abusing ourselves when the factis....WE KNOW BETTER!
Now, He may show grace and mercy and bail some of us out by giving a healing, but overall...I think we get what we deserve. We reap what we sow. |
