Skirts and dresses are women's apparel, but it isn't all that women wear.

I understand what you are saying. I now also understand that cultures change and evolve. However the UPC manual hasn't evolved along with the rest of us.

Ive oftern wondered about that.
When missionaries go to foreign countries, do they or do they not keep in mind the cutural norms in those countries?

Like in India for example, it is the norm for the women to wear pants. In many cases the the women's pants are somewhat decorative & look distinctly different from mens pants. Still, they're pants nonetheless, but in that culture no-one there seriously would say that its a "man's garment".

So if an Apostolic missionary converts a whole village in India to Christ, does he then tell the women they cant wear pants like this because it's a man's garment?

By the way what would ever make a pastor WANT to know what the ladies wear to bed...lol.

Seems to me that if pastors are worried about what the ladies in their congregations are wearing to bed, they have bigger issues than those ladies who may or may not be wearing the PJ pants.

Does make you wonder for sure. I know that MY pastor certainly isn't the least interested in what ANY other woman wears to bed nor does he make it his business to tell her what to wear.

But from what I've been told, there are some that have made it their business and have made certain stipulations. Those men have 'issues' in my opinion.

This is precisely why I believe there is no mention of this in the manual as something that should be taught.

Except for the scarf, that used to be a popular outfit during the 80's.

Yes, there are those who say women cannot wear PJ's to bed. Extreme? Absolutely. I have even heard it preached from the pulpit about men's undergarments. Some (briefs) were condemned because they are... well... brief. (And "pertains" to womens under garments). Mens sleevless T-shirts were "wrong" because the "straps" looked like... well... you know, an article of womens under garments. And V- neck T-shirts were a no-no for the same reason women could not wear "low cut" dresses. Any thing exposed below the collar bone was wrong. Oh, and "button-up" blouses were out... looked like a mans garments. Extreme? Absolutely. And riduculous, IMO

There is a church across town that held a marriage seminar. They displayed undergarments that were NOT permissible to wear. I wonder who bought them and what did they do with them? Garage sale? :toofunny

Issues, I tell you. Issues. :)

Seriously though, any pastor who gets involved in this kind of thing and tries to exercise control has a major problem.

In my opinion.

Perhaps we should all go around nude. That would certainly allow for distinction amongst the sexes. :D
