When missionaries go to foreign countries, do they or do they not keep in mind the cutural norms in those countries?

Like in India for example, it is the norm for the women to wear pants. In many cases the the women's pants are somewhat decorative & look distinctly different from mens pants. Still, they're pants nonetheless, but in that culture no-one there seriously would say that its a "man's garment".

So if an Apostolic missionary converts a whole village in India to Christ, does he then tell the women they cant wear pants like this because it's a man's garment?

Missionaries I know personally who are working in "East Indian" culture don't make an issue of this.

The ones who do make an issue of it are ignorant North American pastors who visit these foreign fields and start griping about the lack of holiness. I.E. "Got to get the pants off those women!" .... making life miserable for the missionaries on site.

LOL!

It just illustrates the ridiculous nature of the point--if everything is about gender distinction, and modesty isn't part of that equation, well--that can be arranged.

I'm going to seriously start to pray against any man-made hindrances that hinder the free flow of the gospel. God only knows how many souls we've unnecessarily alienated with this stuff over the years.

I know right. My oldest daughter dated a young man that had beautiful thick, long hair......... He was the envy of a lot of girls I think.
