This is probably a thread hijack, but this is so true, and something I've been thinking about lately. People worry that if we don't hold on to our standards and traditions that they'll be gone forever, and our kids will know nothing about them. I don't think that's necessarily true, because each generation has people in it that seek out answers for themselves. If these traditions and standards are "right", future generations will come back to them. There will always be someone who wants to get closer to God, and many of them will choose the "standards" way to do it.
I homeschool, and in the homeschool community there is a huge 'back to the old paths' movement. Many homeschoolers I know are stricter than we are. Go to a homeschool convention, and you'll see TONS of blue jean jumpers (it's somewhat of a joke among homeschoolers), many of the women wear dresses only, don't cut their hair, wear headcoverings, believe the mother should stay home and raise the children, watch very little if any television, etc. Probably over 90% of these people were not raised this way themselves. It's something they've sought out, and been convicted of in their own lives.
I don't think the holiness movement will ever die out. There will always be someone bringing it back to the surface, imo. And then, when it gets too works-based, someone will haul it back the other direction. ;) As Piper said, these things tend to self-correct.
