Re: I Need To Gain Weight

When a person diets, they are often told to cut the potatoes and breads and not to eat past 8:00 (some say 6:00). They are also told not to eat multiple small meals through the day and no big meals. They are also told not to snack, or only to eat healthy snacks when they do. Fewer salads and less oatmeal.

So... would the opposite put weight on? Eat more potatoes and breads, less salad and oatmeal, three big meals a day-at least one after 8:00 at night, snack throughout the day (on candy and junk-maybe breads and carbs would work though), and more meat? I wouldn't cut good foods out, just add the meat and potatoes foods to my diet. Also, people struggling with weight often drink lots of liquid calories-sugary sodas and teas (Arizona Tea has some fairly high cal drinks, so does SOBE) instead of water, for example. Another fattening drink (my personal downfall) is 2% or whole milk instead of skim. Cheeses are pretty high calorie too, and there are 100 calories in just 6 oz of most yogurts.

My first question would be: Do you know your blood type?

If you do, then you should check out Dr. Peter D'Adamo and either his Blood Type Diet, Genotype Diet, or preferably (what I'm on) his SWAMI. Check it out. It is pretty amazing. The Genotype & SWAMI diets identify six (number of man?) genotypes, Hunter, Gatherer, Teacher, Explorer, Warrior (me), and Nomad. It is backed by a few decades of clinical research going back to his dad's research. He is a naturopath and pretty much a genius imo.

If I didn't know you and love you so much, I would want to smack you. LOL! I'm on a strict doctor's diet. I cannot imagine trying to GAIN weight. I can look at food and gain weight. I even gain weight every time I go to Africa. It's a gift.

Pastas are nutrient and calorie dense. Raman Noodles have 400 calories per serving - though they label it as "200 calories" and say that their are 2 servings in a pack. Eat the whole thing.

There are some Ensure type "shakes" that are designed for weight gain. They're in the pharmacy area at Walmarts and other retailers. Walmart even has a lower cost house brand.

Why can't you eat the ice cream? Lactose issues? Try Lactaid or one of the many other similar products. They come in tablet form and break down the lactose in dairy food that gives many people problems, particularly as we age.

That's my issue too.

My better half is too thin, if there is such a thing??:razz
He doesn't have any bad eating habits. So, as someone suggested, maybe
the reverse would apply.
He doesn't snack, and if he looks for "snack" food..........he eats an apple or celery sticks or "lite" yogurt.
These should add pounds:
Whole grain bread with peanut butter; a handful of almonds or mixed nuts;
of course "fruit" pie; protein shakes===you can easily add "calories" to your mix....

Has your doctor made any suggestions? How many calories a day are you eating? What do you normally eat in a day?

Cindy,

As a person who was once too skinny and needing to gain weight to the nicely rounded figure I have now.....:razz.....I can say to you.....learn to enjoy food. If you have the same issue I did back then, I just did not really enjoy food all that much. I always had my mind on other things. One day my husband said to me "Food is one of the greatest enjoyments in life" and I really thought about that because I didn't really understand. But my Dad and Granny are both skinny too. My granny has always been really thin. Anyway, I completely agree with my husband's statement now and am trying to shed a few pounds. Sheesh. Why can life be a little easier? You just trade one problem for the next one. :ursofunny Anyway, I would suggest eating a lot of very small things all the time. Carry food in your purse and munch as you go along. Carry food in your car and much as you go. Otherwise, it's too easy to forget to do it. Also, have things around you really like to eat. I say buy the ice cream and learn to enjoy eating around the clock. :)
