The Patriot Act was passed by Congress. Both wars were authorized by Congress. What exactly is the issue here?

By the way, there's no "Bush Jr.". There's George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush.

The Patriot Act was a massive mistake though. Wish it never had passed.

Actually, the original intent of the Patriot Act wasn't really a problem. It only allowed for electronically monitoring and for detaining (e.g. Gitmo) of non-citizens. It did not apply to US citizens. The later expansions of it was the real problem.

Just like "the income tax will only be for the very rich" or "income tax withholding will only be for foreigners working in the US" and "SSNs will only be used for social security purposes"?

Nothing happened. Arrest total was 24 during the convention, which is incredibly low for this kind of an event.
