I like being able to watch the "interactive map/Doppler Radar" at weather.com ...No, I'm not in Memphis. I'm listening to how there has been quite a bit of damage in North Mississippi near Memphis... Be safe.

We live in a double-wide, and the last tornado that blew through here, Mom and me were in the closet in the den!!

I'm serious...I put a chair in there for her and took the flashlight and phone. It got so bad, one of my brothers came to get us.

I'll take snow over that...

A double wide is a death trap even in just very windy weather. I'd never live in one of those if I lived in a storm center.

I lived in a single wide several years ago when in southern Illinois. I had to leave a few times and head to a friends house......but I still had fun!! LOL!

Well, it's a nice house...I don't think of it as a death trap.

My nephew calls our laundry room "the basement" and now everyone does. ..:)

Re: Tornado Warning - Sirens Going OFF

I made it home.

It went right over where I work - we were in the restroom watching the storm track on laptops. The NBC local weatherman's daughter was in there with us (she works with me) and she texted him and after the storm had passed he announced on the air that the folks at Medtronic where his daughter works was okay for now.

I was headed out the door trying to make it home before it got worse and my son called and said to stay at work - - it wasn't 10 minutes later that it went over our area.

They have hit everywhere - it's unreal. I haven't caught up on all the news yet, but several places close to where I work were hit hard and a few place close to where I leave.

I have electricity and no damage. There's another front coming a few hrs from now.

Thank the Lord for his protection!

Pray for Sherri now - it's headed right toward them.

She called to check on me while I was still at work and said it was coming their way. Now, I'm watching the news and it is.

Yes, pray for Sherri and others who are in the path of these storms. I've been through several tornadoes and lost friends. I need to get off the computer and PRAY. Thanks.

Glad you are okay Renda.
Will continue to pray.

Are these storms seeming to be more intense, or more frequent, or just the same?

Than what?

They are very intense and so many in so many different areas. We have a two hour lull before the next round comes through.

Our weather guy said he's been doing the weather here for 30 years and has never seen it so intense and concentrated as today.

..Than say...years ago?

My Pastor grew up in Pensacola, & pastored for 13 years in Smithville, TN.
He says that Hurricanes were something he was around all his life, but lately (past 10-20 years) they seem to have gotten more frequent & more intense
or stronger than years previously.

Not sure - maybe they'll have some data soon and I can let you know.

I was just watching The Weather Channel and they had some pictures of the sky here in Memphis as the storm was approaching and they were actually broadcasting from Hickory Ridge Mall which was hit.

Union University in Jackson was hit - very close to Sherri and their church!

People are trap in a dorm there.

Re: Tornado Warning - Sirens Going OFF

Just talked to Tina and they are okay. They were at the church and huddle together as it past them. She was out in the parking lot looking at damage done by the baseball size hail.

She said they were headed in to church now for service.

Further update from Jackson:
My wife is a student at Union University. She just got off the phone with one of the instructors, apparently, we have been told, the LifeWay Christian Book Store on Campus is gone. Also, there are apparently many injuries on campus. This is word of mouth only, we have no way of confirming this tonight. My wife will know more tomorrow as we try to verify this.

They just said 15 tractor trailer rigs were knocked over on I40 in the Jackson area.

They are now covering the damage from the scene on the radio. They have not said anything about LifeWay yet, but the rest of the campus had major damage and many injuries. Darkness is hampering rescue efforts.

I'll post if they report on Jackson. Of course, here in Memphis they are to continue covering all our damage.

Just talked to Sherri - they are okay and have electricity.

Darcie is without power and scared to death and ready to move back home!

Sherri's church seems to be okay for now - their junior high pastor was stuck there as the storm was going through and he said door/windows are fine - just not sure about the exterior.

Yes.

A tornado just touched down in Arkansas that is headed this way, BUT then there's another line behind it headed this way and should be here by 10:00 pm.

Re: Tornado Warning - Sirens Going OFF

We are still here at the church. A couple of other church families that do not have basements have joined us, and we are keeping the church open, as we always do in severe weather, for any community folks who need a place to be safe. I am co-ordinating the radar reports so we know when to move to the basement. Also, fielding all of the phone calls coming in, and passing along what little news I can dig up.

It has been.

Just reported 86 injuries and some deaths in Jackson. Reports still coming in.

Luckily, the mall that was hit here in Memphis only had a few injuries and so far no deaths reported.
