I HATE strawberries. And if you think hard enough, you will remember someone who used to (and may still) bake everyone heart shaped strawberry cakes for valentines day. I would take mine, smile, say thank you, (I was the good daughter-n-law, she just doesn't want to admit it), and take it to the girls at work. It was a big joke at the office that she probably knew I didn't like it and enjoyed giving it to me anyway!!

As picky of an eater as your hubby is, does he like the nasty things???

He loves them!!!! That's what started this whole thing--I made him ten quarts of freezer jam today, gagging the whole time. Ha!

I never got a strawberry cake from her, by the way. She knew I hated them and loved chocolate, so I always got chocolate of some sort!

Well, aren't you the special one?? She should have known that I didn't like them either being as I never ate them. But then again, I am so picky that she probably just really didn't care......:icecream

I love mangos. And I also love fresh ripe pineapple! It's like ambrosia -- food for the gods!

What in the world is that thing? I've never even seen one. What does it taste like?? And how do you eat it? Do you have to cut off that big white thing???

Oh yeah, pineapple rocks! I've never tasted mango, but I love pineapple. And what's weird, I didn't really care for them until my daughter got pregnant and craved pineapple and I got to eating them with her. I really developed a taste for them. I don't care if they're canned, as in Dole or Delmonte, etc -- or fresh fruit. I like them both.

Love pineapples; hate mangos. I'm just a mixed up person, I guess!

Margie, that is exactly what I thought too...looks like an eggplant--can you eat that white stuff in the middle?

Hoovie 05-05-2007 10:32 PM

Perhaps they are Mandrakes.

The purple outside layer is there to protect the fruit (white) inside. It has a slightly hard outter shell, and then the red pulpy outter pod. The fruit is similar in size and appearance to a tangerine, except it's white. It is much smoother in texture than a citrus fruit though. I can't really explain what one tastes like, but it's like a bunch of tropical fruits all rolled into one. I LOVE mangos and thought a mango was the most delicious thing in the world...until I tasted a mangosteen. Definitely THE most delicious thing I've ever eaten.

The mangosteen is known as the 'Queen of Fruits'. I had these while in Singapore, so I don't know if they are even available over here in the US.

Hairy strawberries? Ours aren't hairy...what country are you in?

I love them! One of my favorite fruits. I love them chilled and just eating them like you might eat a grape

Is that what you get when you cross a preacher that tells you to Smile all the time and a mango?
