I had to chuckle at this post. I don't think I left the state I was born in until I was 14 or 15! |

I have always wanted to travel to other countries. Unfortunately, I've only made it to canada. But I've been to almost every state in the union.......just lack three or four. Maybe this summer I can make it to those! |

We actually ate in the pubs alot. Lots of selection and cheaper prices. They are not like pubs in the U.S.; they don't even feel like a bar - it's just what they call them. They are everywhere! Be sure to see Picadilly area; there are street artists and performers all over the place; it's really fun. The greatest thing we did was to see the bunkers where Churchill stayed during the war. They sealed them up and left them just like they were when the war ended, so you can see his bed, his phone where he called FDR, the maps on the wall that he used, etc. It's really interesting. We also went to Windsor Castle one day and we all loved that. The Tower of London is an amazing place to go too. Have a great time! We loved London. |
You could do a day bus tour to Stonehenge and Bath if you wanted to get out of the city for a day. http://www.andersontours.co.uk/tourd...?id=7&sid=1299
Very beautiful part of the English country side. |
I see that Sherri seconded my motion about seeing the underground War Rooms that Churchill used and the adjacent new Churchill Museum.
She also mentioned Windsor Castle which I had forgot to put on my list. It is really cool and not that far out of London. If you ever go in August or September they actually have Buckingham Palace open during that time for tours while the royal family is at their Scottish estate. It will give your wife decorating ideas if you ever move into a home with 20 or 30 foot ceilings and you have an unlimited amount of money for gold gilded furniture and paintings! |
We were excited to see the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, but after about a half hour, we got bored and left!! It seemed to be the same thing over and over; my kids were ready to move on.
We went in May and it was a little chilly even then. January will be very cold, and there is so little sunshine, it seems colder than it really is. Take warm clothing! I just want to warn you that we found NOTHING cheap in London. The food was outrageous everywhere, except the pubs were the cheapest. Our hotel was pretty expensive too, so I can't help much in that area. We stayed never Grosvenor Square (sp.), which was an easy walk to Buckingham and Bond Street Station to jump on the tube and go all over London. |
We went to London and Paris in APRIL - it rained. What a a coincidence. :)

I was researching our tickets to London and India, 1/3 of the fare/price goes for taxes, Baby David's ticket amounts to about $200, then add about $400 in taxes, fees, etc. The airlines might go under, but the governemnt is doing very well. |
Thanks to CCI who directed me to a website that helps folks bid on priceline.com, we got reservations to stay at the Marriot, sorry I tried the best to stay at something more English, but with small bedrooms, older furnishings we needed something bigger, we will be traveling with David and 4-5 suitcases.
It puts us downtown near Hyde Park so we are within distance of a lot of stuff to do. The airfare cost $2100 for 3 of us all the way to India, but then add $1900 in taxes and fees, very expensive to travel overseas these days. David's portion was only about about $250, then $700 in fees, CRAZY! |

You want to die of boredom? Jet Blue flys to Portland, Maine. As well does United and Usair. |
