I think Gilda Radner (spelling?) had a couple of different roles.
Emily Litella (spelling?) was a character/role/person who responded to news shows by giving her opinion on something. Then when she was shown to be off base she would say something like, "Well, never mind."
One time she was responding to an on air editorial that said there was too much violence on tv. She came on ranting against the idea that there was too much "violins" on tv and went on and on about it until someone corrected her by telling her the original editorial was about "violence, not violins."
She also did one in response to some Croatians hijacking an airplane. She got on and ranted about how "crustaceans" are too small and too gentle to do something like hijacking a plane.
I've only seen a few SNL programs and that was back in the days of Chevy Chase, John Belushi, and Gilda Radner. Later shows just don't seem like they make them like they used to (probably an age thing). |
