Personally, I like my caffeine in an IV drip. You really don't want to be around me on a day with no caffeine. :hypercoffee

I cut out all soda 4 years ago, and have never looked back, but caffeine? That is just crazy talk! :crazy

:woohoo

Caffeine can have its place, but the sugar is what caused the weight gain, not the Caffeine

Caffeine was a major contributer to my previous weight gain. I would daily consume between 3-4 sodas, and luckily I've always abhorred coffee.

I'm entering the fourth month of dieting with a resulting loss of 35 pounds, and I've only consumed seven caffeinated beverages within a span of two years. I've discovered great friendship between water and I.

To those desiring weight loss.....determination is a must.....and nutri-system :D!

I'm craving a fresh donut as I type!

It's not the caffeine, it's all the sugar. I've lost over 60 pounds and all I've done is watch my carbs and sugar intake. I still drink coffee and teas. I just avoid sugars. I occasionally use artificial sweetners. Diet only if I drink a soda.

But caffeine can stimulate appitite so moderate your intake and have a healthy whole grain snack to curb that appitite.

I have not been able to have ANY caffeine for the past five years due to a heart rhythm condition. I miss having sweet tea at restaurants - I can only have it at home where I use decaf tea. Fortunately I've never been a coffee drinker, but I drank a lot of Diet Coke. That was a hard habit to break!!

Chick FilA and Steak & Shake and Panera are the only restaurants that I know of that have caffeine-free colas.

1399 is correct - it's the sugar, carbonationand sodium in soda that causes weight gain and water retention.

I'm currently working with a personal trainer, and ironically, we just had this discussion last week.

However, there are other side effects to caffeine for me that have caused me to greatly reduce my caffeine intake.

Exactly, not the caffeine. It's a diuretic and it is a stimulant

You know, I went to Food Lion in Waldorf today and as I walked by the Krispy Kreme Glazed Donuts display I almost put a box in my basket.

I thought of this thread.

Corinth,

I found information about a health study that actually links caffeine (without exercise) to weight gain.

The site has links to sites that give conflicting information about caffeine.

As with any medical advice you get from friend or stranger, talk to your doctor for the real skinny.
