However, as an organization, there seems (at least to me) to be an exclusivist, judgmental attitude towards anyone who is non-UPC. I could not, in good conscience, be part of a church/organization that says that those who have not been baptized with the name Jesus (and maybe some titles like "Lord" and/or "Christ") being verbalized by the one doing the baptizing; and that those who have not spoken with tongues; and that those who do not give a certain percentage of their income; and those who do not follow a specific dress code will not go to heaven. That, folks, is the reason I go to a "trinity" church. |

Herein lies the whole reason WHY I am not going to the Winterfire 2010 event here locally this weekend. Because the last time I encountered UPC people, including a pastor, from up here they treated my daughter and myself like we were something they scraped off their shoe. And I will not subject my family to that. There are a lot of folk in the UPC that I admire and enjoy freindships with, but the org itself? I wish them revival and a move of God, but they can keep their elitism... not interested. And the funny thing is... me and mine live up to all their standards... what a gas. |

I see what you are saying, but I would not attribute that to an exclusive, judgmental attitude. It rather is born of a very literal reading and the strong conviction that one must invoke the name of Jesus at baptism and speak in tongues as the apostles did when receiving the Spirit. I believe they are absolutely right too... for Oneness Pentecostals. I stop somewhere short of saying all Christians must experience it as OP to be genuine and valid. :) |
