Just reported 86 injuries and some deaths in Jackson. Reports still coming in.

Luckily, the mall that was hit here in Memphis only had a few injuries and so far no deaths reported.

I heard that some students were trapped in a dorm at Union University and damage near Northside High and near University Parkway.

I just saw that there was 4 and a half inch hail!

I read this thread backwards....Sorry to be repetitive...They said some men in the commons area are being rescued now. I'm glad Sherri and others are OK.

They just announced that classes are canceled for the rest of the week at Union University..They are showing houses that were destroyed in North Jackson. Downtown was hit a few years ago. ...Downtown looked like they had been bombed. I can't recall what year that was.

I hate snow but in my book summer storms and tornadoes are worse. As a rule snow doesn't sneak up on you.

I just watched the weather channel and a tornado touched down in Jackson. Hope everyone is OK. It looks like TN is in for a rough night.

We had 4" snow today and more coming tonight. Lots of events canceled tonight and schools are already closing for tomorrow.

Sis, I hate to alarm you, but your brother is at the parsonage with the pastor. I assume they will join us here as the storms draw closer.

Re: Tornado Warning - Sirens Going OFF

Just talked to girls from my Sunday School Class who live in downtown Greenville. They were in their basement when the "apparent" tornado went over. Said they started to pray and all was quiet. They have no electricity, but, THANK GOD, they are safe!

Looks like another storm is going to be North of Madisonville in just a couple of minutes. They have missed us all the way around tonight. After the F-4 a couple of years ago...we are all a little "skiddish" here. But, so far just rain.

According to the weather reports we won't be out of the woods until around midnight.

Beth

Sure - as long as I have power to know what's going on too.

Pray for me and my family. My husband and I have a safe room (a small room with concrete walls) but the rest of my family does not and they are several miles away. Nothing happening now, but it's headed east.

Well, I have already been praying and I was almost sure he was home. We are praying for all involved and trust that God protects you.

Just got a report, trying to verify, Lighthouse in Jackson lost the steeple and part of the roof gone in the back. Can anyone confirm?

I can't yet - our news is only covering Memphis and the upcoming storms.

Sherri lives very close to Union University, but they can't get out of their area - roads are closed.

President of Union University has told Channel 7 or 13? that there are no known fataliites at Union. I hope that is right. ..I think others have reported there were.

Re: Tornado Warning - Sirens Going OFF

There is a "missing person" in the Denmark Community according to Jackson news - but that is not a confirmed fatality..Bye for a while.

Two fatalities reported now in Memphis.

My prayers are with y'all that are in harm's way. My little 4 yr. old grandson is sitting on the floor by me as he is afraid of the thunder. We are expecting severe weather also. But nothing major yet.

Re: Tornado Warning - Sirens Going OFF

I am online in between tornado activity!! What a fun way to spend my birthday; oh well, I'll always remember it.

Lighthouse UPC was hit, but I'm not sure how bad. Sharon Baptist church and school in Savannah was destroyed. Union University dorms were really hit badly, but the Lifeway bookstore seems to be ok. Our Edge/Sr. High Pastor is there now at the campus, rounding up all of our students, getting them to safe and dry housing.

Our Jr. High Pastor and his family were hiding under a desk in the office when the tornado went over, but they are safe.

We had baseball size hail pounding our house, but the skylights didn't break, thank the Lord. We had that happen once before, and it was a real mess. But it sounded like cannons were attacking us. We were in a hall closet.

Our music pastor for Cordova and his family are fine, but several houses (just two or three away from his) were completely destroyed. He lives here in Jackson. My bank has all it's windows blown out; hope all my money is still there! LOL! The gas station across the street from the bank is completely gone. What a mess and we haven't even seen the worst system come through yet. It is just now hitting Memphis, so pray for Renda. Then it will be here in a little over an hour.

Our sirens are going off again - I'm out of here for now. LIne is hitting MS River and moving fast.

God be with everyone!

Re: Tornado Warning - Sirens Going OFF

Just heard on Channel 3 that the dorms at Union Univ were severely damaged. All the students have been evacuated except for 8 boys who are trapped but not seriously injured. Classes are canceled until 2/13. They will need at least 2 weeks to take care of all the damage.

More sirens are going off here in Memphis.

Re: Tornado Warning - Sirens Going OFF

Tornado Warning just issued for Dyer County, Dyersburg area. Just west of us.

Re: Tornado Warning - Sirens Going OFF

I've got my tennis shoes on, purse and cell phone close by and will be heading to the utility room as soon as the winds pick up. The sirens started going off as soon as the line hit the river and I'm 20 miles east of that.

Just hearing this siren going off forever is frightening enough. I don't like going through this alone.......I do have Maggie though, so I guess I'm really not alone - got her and God!

I'm 3 miles from the river & it hasn't started raining yet. It seems to be taking forever to cross the river.

Looks like it has stalled, but that should be a good sign. I think they just downgraded the warning too, so hopefully, there are no tornadoes in that line. I'm worn out!

I'm exhausted too. I rushed home from work just in time to miss the first storm. Hopefully this will move on past. The basement's not too comfortable.

Update......most likely will require complete tear down at Lighthouse.....one side of gym caved it...

SO SAD!

I was trying to get out of work, but my son called and said to get back in the bldg. it was headed our way. Glad I stay there. We didn't leave until 6:15 or so. There were quite a few of us left there.

Well, good news Jackson - - the line heading your way has been downgraded to a severe thunderstorm warning. Now, the cold front will hit, but hopefully the rest of the evening will be better!

9:52 PM- Just thunder and rain. Nothing really expected for us RIGHT NOW! It is tracking North of us according to Wayne Hart.

Why couldn't this be SNOW? We've only had about 1 inch the whole winter!

Usually I'm there late, but Mark wanted me to go vote in the primaries with him & then I realized if I didn't leave immediately, I wasn't going to be able to make it home for a while.
