I left once when a "Branhamite" started tearing down the UPC.

All sarcasm aside, this is true.

You can call Pastor James Varnum in Belleview, FL if you do not believe me. I think some of these posters have heard Brother "C" preach this type of message and would verify that I have not lied about it.

It seems every time I post something and you guys disagree - I am called a liar. It seems that way to me - maybe I am misunderstanding!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever walked out of a service? If so, for what reason and would you do it again if given the same chance?

Yep~ The pastor was tearing someone apart and wanted everyone to witness~ Sorry I'm not into silly games!

Thank You sir. God is using it for his glory.

Today I was at a home sweeping 3 chimneys and the Dish TV guy was there. We talked a bit then he said - you have been in our shop - I remember you from somewhere...

So I said, "you might have seen us on TV" and asked if he saw the show. He said That's IT! It is my wifes' favorite show and we saw you all on it. We talked a while and ended up discussing faith. This scenario happens several times a week on my job. I don't seek the attention but will use it to the glory of God.

My wife had two bible studies today related to show contacts, and more to come. Sun. we shared our story at an AOG church and some recieved the Holy Spirit.

Glad you enjoyed it AB.

I had NEVER heard it was something we should not do!!!!!!!! It was funny when I found out that they did not believe in short sleeves or SUNGLASSES!!!!! We could not get over them actually believing this!

We went to a day service where Pastor James Varnum (in his Independent days) of Bellview, FL spoke on Soul winning and called the message "Perfect Love". He shared how that his people were teaching HBS and a 12 year old boy had taught a HBS and won a whole family to Souls Harbor. We thought it was so great - we were actually there from his invitation to attend. It was a very edifying message to win the lost!

Well - Pastor Varnum sat down and a Brother "C" got up and said - well, we have heard about this PERFECT LOVE - but today I am gonna preach on "PERFECT HATE". He got all wound up - being so critical of Pastor Varnum and his "big house" and "big fine car" and ranting and raving and said - there is no such thing as Home Bible Studies in the Bible and he had never heard the such of a 12 year old boy teaching anybody anything. He lam blasted everything and everybody there and then started pounding the pulpit - screaming - PERFECT HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE SINNERS - You may say - Oh NO - Brother "C" - You don't hate the sinners - you hate the sin! He then screamed LOUDER than ever - "I HATE THE NASTY FILTHY ROTTEN UNGODLY SINNERS - GOD HATES THEM AND SO DO I"!!!!
At that - I got up and said to the young man with me - "I have heard enough of this - Let's Go!" We got up - picked up our Bibles and walked out and never went back.
I walked out and would walk out again.

That is just about the worst story I've ever heard about Apostolic churches! How sad!!:praying

I read this a few days ago and I have to admit it has been on my mind.

Trying to find truth? You must not know a whole lot about science.

The first rule of research is that you can't form meaningful conclusions based on inconclusive research or data.

Unfortunately, your quest, request, and desire for truth here is nothing more than looking for aliens in the Nevada desert because you found a footprint someone made with a piece of plywood glued to a stick.

I've walked out on more than a few. As soon as I hear that a woman is going to get up and preach - I don't mean give her testimony or tell us where we can donate clothes to the needy - but get up and preach ------> :) I'm out.

Too bad...you might have heard some anointed preaching that would help you in your walk with God. God will use who God will use...too bad you are too narrow minded and prideful to listen when God sends you a word!

Blessings, Rhoni

Rhoni 06-03-2007 08:51 AM

I guess I should ease up on yael since this was their first post but I couldn't resist...Rhoni is very offended when people state that God does not use women to preach/minister! It isn't scriptural but sure is discriminatory/biased.

Rhoni - I do believe that women can minister - they even ministered to Jesus when He was here in his earthly body. Praise Jesus!! :)

But she was not preaching to the Messiah.

I think they might have made sure he had something to eat and had clean clothes and such.
Let's see - they might have made all kinds of garments for him - you know - like Dorcas. Yes - may there be more Dorcases in the Body.

I think that they may have been like the two sisters that were in the house with Jesus one day when he was preaching.
One was cooking :) and one was quietly sitting and listening.

I believe that women should testify of all that Jesus has done for us.

Oh yeah - teach the younger women to be chaste keepers at home and teach them how to love their husbands and children and take care of the sick and the infirmed.
That'll keep her busy. :)

Whew Atlanta Bishop what a shame to have scortched so hard. The elder
Adams is dead. His son now pastors the church and is loved by that assembly.
Do they really preach against sunglasses? That is one I never heard before.

I walked out of my present church on a Wednesday evening. I was unaware that we were having a song service instead of bible study. The visiting musical "ministers" were lip-synching. They went on and on, and they were awful. I probably was there for 3/4 of it. I looked at my wife, she looked at me, and we agreed enough was enough. We's gonna grab the kids and scoot, I get up at 5 am, ya'll.

I walked out of a church that I was a fairly long term member of when a "special" altar call was made during the middle of the service. Some context is necessary. A local girl had gone missing. A massive manhunt ensued. We prayed and fasted and contributed to fundraisers. Weeks later, her body was found. Her rapist/murderer confessed that he did it because she had inadvertently stumbled across his meth lab. I don't know why, but these events caused fear to grip my pastor and he wanted to have an altar call wherein we would pray for certain specific protections. The Holy Ghost told my wife and I simultaneously to get out NOW. We grabbed the kids and scooted.

I pray for this sort of protection for my family every day. My daughter is too young to receive an explanation that this sort of evil exists. The God I serve can protect her and us without a special altar call wherein she learns what evils specifically she may now develop fears of.

Amazingly I may know the case you talk about. At least something very similar happened in Indiana and I read about it. The one that I was reading about was a young girl and her name was Coleman.

It may be a different situation but I'm from that area and noticed it in the papers.

I normally will not walk out of a church. But there are times that I have.

I walked out of a "Prayer Summit" in St Louis when JS was supposed to be preaching a sermon, but was just whipping folks up into a frenzy. My wife and I looked at each other at the same time, and knew it was time to go.

I walked out of a church in Knoxville, TN because of a bad feeling in the service.

I have been to a few that I probably should have walked out of.

Steve Epley 06-04-2007 08:32 AM

Might be controversial but has anyone heard this passage spoke on?

"Do not I hate them, O Lord , that hate thee? am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with a PERFECT HATRED: I count them mine enemies." Psa 119:21-22

Now the application and interpetation might be varied on very widely but it is in the Bible?

Sister, your just trying to get something started. Start a thread on the topic so I will have something to do the next couple of days. :heeheehee

I have only been tempted when certain people were "trying" to sing and I was embarresed for them. Or when a preacher was going waaaaay too long and not holding the majority's attention. Other than that I have only walked out when I had to take my children out.

Steve Epley 06-04-2007 12:04 PM

I have left more than one service and others I endured I wish I would have left.
