It is saying what the prophets and the apostles were SAYING that scoffers would come, and they would SAY where is the promise of His coming, For since our fathers fell asleep, all things remain the same as they always were. Sean, this is a quote from the prophets and the apostles concerning WHAT THE SCOFFERS SAID. Hello!

They said IN THE LAST DAYS fella, this would happen....

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

Sean the Scoffers are saying that since the fathers fell asleep, that isn't the apostolic fathers as you previously posted. The scoffers are talking about the apostles, the apostles and prophets were predicting the scoffers speaking about the fathers falling asleep. The fathers were the patriarchs. Sorry, but once again, you just don't know what you are talking about.

What? So, the scoffers considered the apostles the fathers? That isn't what the scripture is saying? The scoffers are referring to the fathers that fell asleep, the scoffers correlate those sleeping fathers with the creation, and down to where Peter is writing. Another thing are you saying that this portion of the Epistle was meaningless to every generation for over 2,000 years?

Re: Scoffers on AFF

3 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days(end times) scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers(prophets, Apostles, Jesus...vs 2) fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.(just like usual)

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.(its gonna possibly be a while, but God will fulfill what He said)

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.(ditto)

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.(the Lord will return as promised, and this will be the final result)

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Jesus is one of the fathers who fell asleep? Are you really considering anything you are posting at this point? Please explain how the scoffers believe Jesus is one of the fathers who fell asleep? :heeheehee

Because they are referred to as the fathers, not ever was the apostles referred to as the fathers. You also posted Jesus as being one of the fathers who fell asleep, so your issue gets greater because these scoffers are scoffing at an advent that has a father who is sleeping? LOL on that one.

Sean, John 4:12 uses father to indicate who Jacob was, can you produce scripture showing anyone calling the apostles fathers? :)

Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;

Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

That isn't Paul being called a father by anyone other than himself to prove that it was he who first taught them. But please continue, show where they were called fathers.
