Just wanted to post a quick update to this thread.

Now that the story broke in the media today, I can just add to this thread what I wanted to say before, but couldn't.

THIS is why I never believed Roger:
I have a contact in NY who is very close to the situation and told me this back in late December, but insisted that I not say a word to anyone. So, as hard as it was, I kept quiet about it. Now that it's come out, I'm able to speak freely.

In a nutshell, according to my contact, Brian McNamee was asked by Roger Clemens about the possibility of getting some steroids from McNamee. BM mentioned the situation first to certain team officials in the organization, and according to him, he was told to go ahead, but be very discreet. So BM went ahead,but still had reservations about it, and so he decided to save the syringes as proof, as a bargaining chip just in case he ever got into trouble because of it.

When the Mitchell Report came out in December, BM was content to keep the syringes and other physical evidence quiet. But Roger Clemens and his lawyers kept running their mouth, and even sued BM for defamation. BM's mind was made up that if Clemens & co. kept pushing the issue he'd go ahead and present the syringes as proof, since he's pretty sure they'll be able to test for and find Clemens' blood in the needle, as well as residual traces of steroids/HGH in the syringes. Not even the Feds knew he had the syringes all this time. All he gave them was his verbal testimony in the beginning.

Apparently Clemens and his people have been blindsided by this news. Now it'll be interesting to see how Roger and his team responds to this.

I'm not posting this to "bash" Roger Clemens per se. Just wanted to make the point that there was always more to this story than met the eye.

I personally do not believe it is fair - at all - to single out a few ball players when they are all competing against each other and are just about forced to use enhancement drugs to stay in the game.

None of them hold a candle to Babe Ruth - a fat, womanizing drunk that could out play them with one hand tied behind his back. He didn't need enhancement drugs.

Well that's been the issue. The ones who weren't using it felt like they were at risk of losing their spot in the lineup to the other guys who were "dirty".

So, whether they're being "singled out" or not, I don't feel sorry of any of them that have now been exposed.

I do because they were pressured in to it. The competition is unreal! So unreal that Sammy Sosa is so fearful of losing what he has that he puts a cork in his bat.

We think of them as dishonest and probably for the most part, yes, but I see the dirty, ugly competitive side and I'm sorry it has to be that way or has been that way.

I don't like that side of sports.

I say they better make sure that every person involved is also indicted. Not just a few major players! JMHO

Well, none of these baseball players are being indicted for using steroids. If anything, they might get indicted for lying under oath. Thats what Barry Bonds got indicted for (perjury/obstruction of justice). And Clemens could face the same thing if he lies under oath to Congress or to Federal investigators.

As the saying goes... sometimes the cover-up is worse than the crime.

Yes, and the worst part is the counsel they received throughout the whole thing. The people that told them to lie should be dragged out on the carpet. You know someone was advising them.

It's just a big mess! The LOVE of money is the root of all evil.

Possibly entwined. You can't have fame in that racket without having the money to go with it. They are partners, I think.
