--The night I am refering to was not endless babble of the same substance, In starting out he said he had 10 points of intrest to speak on. In other words, for today service may be a little longer. Well OH MY, you people are sending him to hell for it.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, "shallow"

Oh, BTW Mr Shallow did your wonderful Pastor...who probably did not deserve to have a thread devoted to his own shallowness (thats how you are making it sound, not my view)...have 10 messages from God that God wanted to relay in one night or did he have 10 points to get across one MESSAGE God wanted him to give? And if so was it necessary to use ALL 10 points because the "Amen" guys just had not gotten it yet?

Or maybe it wasn't a message directly from God but just something the Pastor felt the church needed to hear.

Oh BTW I never said it was babble or endless....

I'M probably the one who insinuated that. (Here and on that 'other' board.)
I will very easily walk out on a sermon that goes on for an hour plus, where nothing is actually said.

Well what did you expect Bro. Praxeas?? lol To me it was like the questions you were asking and the remarks you were making were doing just that, calling me shallow. I just assumed everyone would know that I would have meant well.

Can you name at least one situation where a sermon would or could be justified going a little longer than usual? If so then why not assume it was one of those sermons I was refering to instead of immediatly assuming the opposite negative?

I will now trade the charactorization "shallow" for "pecimist" lol

Yes I could have been a little clearer

But you didn't have to be so pecimistic either.....

God Bless :winkgrin

I think if the preacher feels the congregation is not getting it, he might go on longer. IF the preacher feels maybe in the Spirit to add more...he might...he might cut it off early because he feels in the Spirit NOW is the right time for an altar call

We have all been in services where we are all looking at our watch wondering when it was going to end. I am thinking of what is called "Shot Gun Preaching" you get some men preaching and they shoot at everyone and everything in the world. You couldn't find their main point if you tried. Then you have the preacher that wants to impress and he uses words that he can hardly pronounce but they say them anyway. Then they keep at it because they say, "Well that just went over your head so I guess I'll have to say that again.” Some preachers need to have someone help them. Learn public speaking. Take classes and learn everything that you can do to help yourself. A sermon is like a letter. You need a beginning, middle and an ending. Because our type of services are emotional, sometimes preachers will keep on until they get the emotional response that they are looking for and will push their own desire over what the spirit might be saying...
