Really? Are you sure there were only 12?

If you go strictly by the KJV, you might think that. But if you do a "reverse lookup" in the New Testament from the Greek word, apostolos (Strongs G652), you'll find that there are at least 24 individually distinct people referred to as "apostolos" in the New Testament.

'Let us grow up. Let take responsibility for our own salvation - work out what needs to be worked out - even with fear and trembling. Being a disciple of any spiritual leader (preacher, teacher, minister, etc.) will not take the place of being a true disciple of Jesus Christ. We all need to get that straight in our minds and hearts."

This quote from Art in reply 31, hits the nail on the head. ( Thanks Art. ).

I have been around the Pentecostal believers all my life, and I know what works and what does not work when it comes to being a New Testament Church. First I would say the Church is the believer, not made with Earthly material that decays. I was born in 1927 in Louisiana, not more than a few miles where Nona Freeman was raised, in Pineville,La. My parents were Apostolic. I have continued to follow the faith of the Oneness Holy roller through the years. I was born a Holy Roller in the twenties, Holiness in the thirties, Apostolic in the forties, UPC. fifties, AECC (evangelical) in the sixties, I have watched the rise and fall of many mighty men of God in the seventies, Eighties and Nineties. To day I am still a Holy Roller, Holiness. Oneness Apostolic Child of God. Now that does not mean that in every service I jump, up and down, run all around and hug a tree. No I have always been a weeper.and love the presence of the Holy Spirit. For when the Holy Spirit is presence there is unity and miracles can take place, for where the Lord is present there is liberty. There is no room for the flesh to try to control how the service is to be controlled, except that it be decent and in order. Miracles should be expected in all services.

Sometimes I wonder about the Pentecostal movement. I was raised in this faith been Pentecostal Apostolic for 50 years. With that being said, I have seen the Apostolic Pentecostal movement become like the Pharisee of Christ day. You search the scriptures thinking you have found eternal life but the scriptures only speak of Christ!!!

Paul says study the word rightly dividing the word that you be not ashamed. I think many should be ashamed, you have made works more important than faith in Christ.

Some say there are no Apostols, that is like saying there are no more pastors, or evangelist etc. Some say no more miricles. Then I would hit my prayer bones and get close to God because something is wrong with you or your church because someone has missed hearing the voice of God. I can say this like I do because where I go to church. I see miricles almost every time I attend. Not only that God has performed many miricles in my personal life. God healed my oldest daughter of spinal menigitis. God healed a brain tumor in my dad. I could go on and fill this whole page but I think I have made my point.

Finally we put too much enfises on the books of new testement. When Peter wrote all scripture was by insperation of God he was refering to OT. When Paul said scripture was profitalble for correction doctrine reproof and the instruction of righteousness he again was speaking of OT. Most of the New testement was written for the purpose of dealing with issues that arose in the church not to preach new doctrine they aready had the doctrines they needed found in the OT.
