We all should be ministers, in the sense of being servants.

But the Scripture Felicity referred to is very specific.

1Ti 5:17 ¶ Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

This is clearly speaking of elders who are in a position of oversight.

so in the church government sense there should be elders? That is a plural word.

I wonder where pastors ranked in Judaic synagogues?

to add to the plurality....what would define well?

The Scripture defines it.

Read the charge God gave Timothy.

This is a good place to start...

2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

The plural in that verse is not a proof text for plural eldership instead of a pastor leading the flock.

so its obvious then that we do not model our church government after the examples of Judaic pratctices?

Rather we have one man alone in charge. I can't help but think of the Catholic similarities here.

Further proof that the American church has been diluted to a mangled blob of nothingness. All in the name of freedom and equality.

And then we wonder why young men don't want to enter the ministry? Sounds to me that some folks want preachers to have all of the responsibilities in the church without any real authority.

Responsibility without authority is fruitless and frustrating.

nice dig......friend?

In my travels it would seem that the "authority" wanted all the responsibility and authority. Seems to me that young men don't enter ministry because they have been given a twisted view at what REAL church is about./

right on bro,
but a thoughtful consideration would include the real possibility that men are taking on responsibility that is NOT appointed unto them.

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
And then let GOD BUILD his own CHURCH.

In YOUR church you have ALL the responsibility and ALL the authority to do whatever you want. Just make sure you tell YOUR disciples who THEIR master is and who the builder and maker is of the church they are a part of.

Maybe, just maybe, there is real misconception of areas and roles involving responsibility because there is a real misconception about WHOSE CHURCH IT IS, aka CHURCH ownership.

respectfully and soberly submitted,

Pardon me for using this word... but ...... BULL!!!!

I don't buy it.

You know, I'll never understand why people stay in abusive relationships. Dude, it works both ways. Many pastors have been horribly hurt by abusive saints and churches.

The real church is modeled after NT principles, and yes the ministry does have oversight and authority.

God chooses to use MEN to build his church. He empowers them to do it. That is the entire purpose of the Holy Ghost infilling. He empowers and equips us to move in authority.
