I don't think you have to go back much farther than the 1920's to find them as the standard outerwear for such activity.

Did we get smarter over time?

Men now swim in Speedo bikini swimwear and women are now so enlightened that they go swimming in a thong!

So, I am appreciative that there is still a minority of folks who actually are looking to find ways to enjoy the ocean without be naked.

Men in Speedo bikinis ought to be against the law. LOL! :heeheehee

in your opinion, which has more witness in your spirit that the counsel God may be a work:

1. this kind of attire to swim in public places
2. the prohibition of swimming in public places
3. *your addition of another*

When I look at the definition for the word 'modest'...it's derived from the Latin word modestus 'moderate'. It lists this as one of it's definitions: observing the proprieties of dress and behavior.

How do you determine what are proper proprieties? You HAVE to look at your culture, your society, to determine what is moderate/proper among it's populations.

Would we be considered 'moderate' if we were to wear this type of swimwear publically? We would according to those 1920's you mentioned earlier, but not 2007.

The biblical admonitions to be modest should be applied to the individual reader. To its own generation. To its own culture. To its own society. And I think the Lord is pleased when we wear things that don't draw attention to ourselves...in ANY manner.

This type of swimwear indicates another culture, another society, so I don't consider this as being moderate.

Oh, and be thankful you don't live in Europe...that thong WOULD be considered modest there!!! :lol

To go around in public - beach or elsewhere - half nude is not modest. That's the bottom line.

Yes, but moderate, in our society, is a one piece bathing suit or a bikini without the thong.

Can we go by that?

I thought this thread was about the return of Berkeley as a poster.
