When I look at the definition for the word 'modest'...it's derived from the Latin word modestus 'moderate'. It lists this as one of it's definitions: observing the proprieties of dress and behavior.
How do you determine what are proper proprieties? You HAVE to look at your culture, your society, to determine what is moderate/proper among it's populations.
Would we be considered 'moderate' if we were to wear this type of swimwear publically? We would according to those 1920's you mentioned earlier, but not 2007.
The biblical admonitions to be modest should be applied to the individual reader. To its own generation. To its own culture. To its own society. And I think the Lord is pleased when we wear things that don't draw attention to ourselves...in ANY manner.
This type of swimwear indicates another culture, another society, so I don't consider this as being moderate.
Oh, and be thankful you don't live in Europe...that thong WOULD be considered modest there!!! :lol
